I think moderate people look at God-given and natural as basically saying the same thing. However, some people look at that as a literal interpretation of the Christian Bible, and that scares the crap out of people that don't believe in the Christian Bible.

I guess you missed the previous posts then SD. In one if not several it was noted that ProgLibs are routinely saying that Porn is outright subjugation and violence against women. So it would seem strange that ProgLibs would be against a platform that sought to lesson the availability of that medium in our society. He also had a line about "rich enough to send kids to whatever school they choose like Obama and Clinton." The Trump kids have specifically mentioned school choice with the obvious acknowledgement that they went to the best private schools money could buy.
Cruz is shamelessly setting himself up for 2020, and much more effectively than Christie did in 2012 because he is actually speaking about the party's vision/issues, not his own accomplishments.

No, everyone understood beforehand that "vote your conscience" means "I AM NOT ENDORSING TRUMP! SUCK IT!" No one thought he would say something like that.
Someone on MSNBC said the RNC expected Cruz to say something to the effect of how Trump should be elected. I also read that the RNC told Cruz that they would trash him afterward in the media if he did not endorse Trump in his speech.

Again, I think the story of that will get reported. I don't know whether there was an understanding that Cruz would endorse in a more substantive way or not. There is early reporting that the Trump campaign organized the New York delegation booing. If that was the totality of the gameplan, that is crazy.

1) They got some sort of cryptic/weak assurance from Cruz, ran with it, had the "boo" and "we'll ruin you" as their leverage and totally misread the situation

3) Cruz lied to them
The real question is why the hell they thought that Cruz's "pledge" was sufficient to invite him in the first place.

Let me explain how this works: the media is focusing on the boorish behavior of some pro-Trump delegates who were unhappy that Ted didn't give an explicit endorsement, which is fits the media playbook of focusing on any "controversy" to distract from the substance of the speeches and thereby minimize Trump's convention bounce. By contrast, the coverage of the DNC will be a love fest to maximize Hillary's bounce (to the extent a dead fish dropped from a window bounces). The overwhelmingly liberal journobloc puts their thumbs on the scales every election. The impact is hard to quantify, but it is very much real.
I would encourage you to broaden your horizons and actually watch the speech. It was amazing from start to finish. He was gracious to Trump, congratulating him on winning the nomination, and spoke passionately about conservative principles - chiefly among them freedom and the rule of law.

I watched the speech live, on CSPAN. I don't know if we watched the same speech.
"vote your conscience" was the specific language that pro-Cruz/Never Trump delegates were trying to get inserted in to the rules to throw the convention to Cruz on the floor. "vote your conscience" is a phrase that is used when politicians vote against a party position that is going to pass but is repugnant to a minority of the party ideologically.
Cruz might as well have been wearing a toga and brought a knife, because he just went old school Senator on Trump.

Possibilities (most likely to least likely):
1) They got some sort of cryptic/weak assurance from Cruz, ran with it, had the "boo" and "we'll ruin you" as their leverage and totally misread the situation

3) Cruz lied to them
The real question is why the hell they thought that Cruz's "pledge" was sufficient to invite him in the first place.
Looks like a combo of 1 and 2. I think this is Dunning-Kruger effect meets Trump's razor.

There's really something wrong with you if yer an American and you don't love this guy.
So much love from him. Sure he's narcissistic and loves himself, but he also loves everyone else, and doesn't view himself as above others. People just default think he's arrogant because of his high self love. He's also super persuasive so all I wrote before might be false. But reading first-hand interactions with him, he really makes everyone feel loved. Did I say the word love enough? It's a love-fest folks. :love:

Would have been much better if it didn't seem so rambling/pandering. The Bernie angle is a good one that could get lost. Trump clearly wants to make a play for the disenfranchised Bernie supporters.
