well, it's about as hot as the surface of the sun today and it hasn't rained for over half an hour so I'm going to fire up my sprinklers. normally I pay some guy to come do it and set them up and junk. this year though, all me. I'm just going to assume they still point in the right direction and that the timers are all still saved from last year and switch it to "ON". Thoughts?
-
also I have to turn on the water crank deal in my basement to let it go outside to them. that's actually step 1 I think. thoughts?
-
Overrated
-
you are correct, steve. I'm gonna turn mine on this evening. had some scumbag come do the startup a few weeks back.
-
actually I'm going to mow the grass first, to get it nice and thirsty. then do the water. thoughts?
-
If after a few hours you still don't see any water coming out you might want to call that guy. If you see water... you are done. Oh, if the water never shuts off also call that guy.
-
Mine have been on for months even though we've been getting quite a bit of rain in Texas this year.

Mine were un-winterized at the end of March. Haven't used them much.
-
You have to winterize irrigation? Oh man.

I pay someone to blow them out every year, so sure. It's fine and doesn't cost me much.
-
i roll the dice
-
There's a guy in my neighborhood who has way too much time and care on his hands. He comes around every so often setting up group buys for like winterizing sprinklers and verticut/aerate/overseeding and pest control. He has always "got a guy." Former salesman and I think he likes the hustle. Anyway his guy comes in an knocks out like 8 houses in one day boom boom boom for pretty cheap.

Turn 'em on SD. Lil'SD will be very impressed. He is prime age to think the littlest things you do are the most amazing things in the world.

I always read that the key to watering is "deep but infrequent" - like twice a week but really soak it. After a few years of trying this method, I suspect it may be bullshit. I mean, it's probably good advice if you want a healthy, natural lawn. But I want an unnaturally-green-all-summer-golf-course-style lawn. I hear that watering too often leads to a shallow root system, which isn't sustainable unless you plan to keep watering a lot. That's fine. I'm on a well. I'm still going to water in the morning so it dries during the day to avoid fungus and stuff, but otherwise I'm draining the aquifer. We'll see how this goes.
-
Field turf.
-
My grass is green af and I never water. Maybe your lawn just has bad genes
-
Or maybe it's rained like 47" in the last month :dunno:
-
Water every other day. Unless you are growing grass on a USGA green (sand).

It's going to be a billion degrees the next 5 days. Going to water every day.
-
Protip- water your zones for like only ten minutes each but then run it through twice. Allows the zones to soak up and avoid run off.
-
That is a good idea. Not sure if I can do that with my controller. It is a really old shitty controller. The contacts have started going bad on it. I'm looking to replace it with something I can control from my phone. Ideas?
-
Anyone want to come over and tell me how to work mine? I will pay you in beer.
-
I'd rather not mow.

do you have your owners manual? if not, you'll need to post your model# so we can try to find it.

Is this another one of those times where everyone acts like they never read what I write on this blog? It's not like I haven't said this every summer since 2012. Search it for yourself, that function sucks.

Weathermatic Smartline SL800? I think the battery might be dead, not sure. It is "on" and I can see the date and time and change settings and stuff, but nothing happens when I try to run "test" mode.

Did you use the giant rebar key thingy to turn the water back on yet?

my L/A friend is team deep but infrequent.
SD, no need to pay someone to charge your system in the spring, just be sure to slowly turn on the valve, don't just slam it open.

I bought a new house and couldn't figure out the water heater thermostat. I basically paid $80 for some guy to spend 5 minutes explaining it to me and thinking I was an idiot. You'll enjoy the feeling KK.

Hopefully metalhead's rate is cheaper.

I just slammed it home. no negative consequences.

I am pretty sure metalhead can drink fast, but this won't take longer than 2 beers.

that's not necessarily true, either.

I challenge you to see if you can join Sabination and myself in the elite fraternity of Fifthmas Champions. You have ~6 months to train for the 2016 contest.

I've seen it. I don't think I have what it takes for that specific feat. I can give it a shot, though.

I think there was a Chi O that was faster than that.
