Quote
Kill is close friends with Gary Patterson, currently the head football coach at Texas Christian University.[24] Both men played football for Dennis Franchione and each worked for him as an assistant coach. Kill served as the best man in Patterson's wedding.[25]

I'm fine if he truly is some football rep in the Ath Dept, but shoot me now if he ever becomes a coach for us.

Makes sense. He didn't stay in Minnesota's Ath Dept because they would only give him a fundraising role, but he wanted to be on football operations side of the house.

Don't think his health condition is going to allow him to coach.

So do you think this is to eventually replace Currie, or is it more strictly for football? How much power will Kill have?

I am all in favor of this hire though.

Yea I've heard that. But it seems like a big hire for a go between. Isn't that essentially what secretaries are for? I dunno, at least it appears not as hciw so that's what really matters

Keegan already used that one right outta the gate.

Maybe Snyds has some purple cowboys boots waiting for him in his office day one. Then stops by on his way to the pot for cup of joe #4 and says "Kill-er boots man!"

So it sounds like the general consensus is that this is a Kill-er hire?

If he can get his good buddy GP to come home (.5% chance), it's a home run.

If he keeps Currie from a oscar esque hire in football, it's worth the puns.

If he sticks his toes in basketball, helps crap can oscar and helps bring in someone decent, it's Kill-er. JMO.

His role is literally going to be a messenger from John to Bill/Sean. Bill may throw him a bone and call him in to watch game film once a week. He may also work on helping John fill out non-con game contracts

Seemed to beat us out on recruits to Minnesota (not saying much) and assuming he was a large reason they got a new football stadium up there.  So I would think he would be a decent fundraiser if nothing else.  Wish he has some role where he could actually recruit though, is he really only 54?

good bad logic.  as a manager of people, you ask people to do what they're capable of doing.  maybe dowdle did what he was asked to do.  do you really think that someone of kill's stature and experience would accept a job where his responsibility is to babysit the relationship between the AD and the fb staff?  kill is a fb coach and you think he just signed up to be currie's lackey.

Yeah, this is a win for everyone.  Kill can't coach, but loves working in the college athletics world so he wants to move to an AD role.  He gets great experience, we get a well known name with connections in a required low-to-mid level job for a minimal cost.

Yeah, any time you get a chance to hire a guy who went 14-21 in a watered down Big 10, and whose greatest claim to fame is losing to Texas twice in the Citrus Bowl, you gotta jump on it. HE'S A KANSAN, OVER 50, NICE, WHITE, WHY NOT.

For a $150k/yr mid-level administration staffer, pretty much.

That's good money and work if you can get it

Yeah, this is a win for everyone.  Kill can't coach, but loves working in the college athletics world so he wants to move to an AD role.  He gets great experience, we get a well known name with connections in a required low-to-mid level job for a minimal cost.

I'm seeing a record of 29-29 when he was an active coach. That's not that bad, considering it's Minnesota and they were just 3-9 his first year when he wasn't able to start getting our recruits yet.

He out recruited the WRSOAT at every turn.  I just think this is obviously a KS school throwing an over the hill coach a comfortable job, good money and line him up for some retirement scheme where I am sure KSU pays him a ton for the rest of his life.

MBC, my posting is often hard to parse. Not really being legit here, man. Ppl far more in the know say it's a good hire, then it's a good hire. It's not that important, anyway. I am, however, being serious that we need fewer over 50 white guys in the athletic department. It's 2016, dude, c'mon.

I am having fun thinking about how Jerry is gonna decorate his office, but it's tough.   I mean on one side I could see the argument for a real sparse set-up, and on another I can it being like going to that relatives house who has way too much stuff on the walls and shelves.

1. Snyder
2. Huggins

Mitch said hiring Kill (and he wasn't assuming he would become the next coach) guarantees that K-State will remain relevant in football for the next 10-20 years (at least).

I heard this Mitch interview as well, sadly he sounded honest and truthful and not drunken. I want to be on team Mitch here, but can't see how anything he said was logical. It all smelled of the typical, provincial, asinine logic of "well, this is a local guy and local is good because home is good because people know each other".

As for Kill, dude does seem well respected and given that his position is rather inconsequential it's probably a net positive.

The guy he is replacing sounded like a real douchey Currie-bot, so I'm glad we're at least replacing combover SEC douche with a man that would literally die for football.

Mitch is never hyperbolic and over-the-top.   I mean, in the early days of Snyder and Mitch up in the press box, he had you believing beating South Dakota State was like winning the national title via 6 degrees of separation.   Folks here this, South Dakota State held Nebraska to 9 first downs and three touchdowns in the the first quarter of their game in Lincoln three years ago, they forced two straight three in outs in the fourth quarter against Nebraska (when Nebraska had the walk-ons in).

Good question.

As far as I know, he never had one on the sideline or whatever while he was the go between guy for Currie and Bill.

Plus, I can't think its a good idea to have your OC have to be tended to by medical staff during a game a couple times a season on the sidelines.

I think a player collided with him on the sidelines which brought it on. Feel for the guy, admire his passion. But he also needs to consider his family, etc.
