Title: Magic number 6
Post by: ksu101 on February 12, 2016, 11:20:32 PM
if we lose the remaining 6 games and finish last in Big 12 maybe oscar will get fired.  so the magic number still remains 6.

oscar needs 2 wins to show progress, overall. He needs 5 wins to show progress in the conference.

Start with that. Deb Patterson was fired for 4 years of continuing downward trajectory. Is our men's program held to a lesser standard?

FWIW, Deb is not oscar and oscar is not Deb.

However, after crunching some numbers 4 wins gets us in the NIT.  3 more wins will put us at a 61% chance of getting in.

Currie didn't hire Deb. Currie hired oscar. Different Standard.

If you think about it, we're only 10 wins away from being national champs.

Had we won half of the games we lost to ranked teams we'd be in the Top 15 ... chicken nuggets for thoughts.

My favorite thing about college basketball this time of year is when announcers and commentators say stuff like "sure this team is 3-8 in conference and sucks complete crap but if they just win 6 of their next 7 including wins against 4 ranked teams they should be in the tournament."

IIRC, early in the game after talking about all our new players the announcer said "given the pieces, this is one of the best coached teams in the country, especially on defense". Announcers, who are usually failed coaches, love to talk up other failing coaches.

apparently, espn declined to send announcers to the game.  they called it from a studio.

If they're not even going to travel people to the game, they ought to let members of the public that happen to be familiar with the teams call the games.  Like you and I.

This isn't the slightest bit true. The announcers were at the Baylor game on Wednesday which was on ESPNNEWS.

I'm also pretty sure they were at the OSU game. Right at the beginning of the second half they were talking about something the officials were doing at halftime that they had to be there to see.

I would buy as many vodka and sevens it would take for you to do the entire game as oscar.

i rewatched the start of the game, halftime, the period between regulation and overtime and the end of the game as well as about five minutes of game action.  i'm about 99% sure it was called in studio.  no shots of the announcers (amazingly, there were actually three empty chairs that said espnews on them in the middle of the scorer's table) at any time.  and if you are looking for it, there are subtle things like the announcers don't raise their voices much when the crowd is louder and they don't say stuff like "from our angle", etc.

mir, they have cameramen and other staff at the game, so they can still have someone talk to officials or whatnot and report on a particular issue.

I thought that this was an amazing statement.
