TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball => Topic started by: Ptolemy on January 28, 2016, 06:22:54 PM

With the HOF ceremony this weekend it occurred to me that Frank Martin should be deserving of such an honor. When checking for his coaching stats at KState, I went to the coaching history page on the kstatesports.com site and found this...
http://www.kstatesports.com/page/tradition-mbb-coaches
Not even mentioned!
Remember when Huggins left and the decision was made to retain Frank and EVERYBODY in the local media and at the other regional schools ripped us for standing behind Frank?
Frank Martin has the highest win percentage of EVERY KState basketball coach except for Tex, and he's only 0.004 behind him. 4 NCAA's in 5 years and NO 1st round exits. I get that Frank will never get the recognition as long as Currie steers the clown wagon but to completely leave him off the university athletics website?!?!
THAT's butthurt!
-
Obviously, the final question at this year's FattyFest needs to be about K-State hoops coaches with this link being the definitive resource on who was or wasn't one.
-
lol, this is a pretty good find 'lemy
-
I tweeted @ the whole K-State department asking them why there was no Frank.
-
Went to the game Saturday, watched the pregame video, it had a bunch of past coaches in the video, had Rodney and Jake and Beasley, but no frank. Wasn't surprised but it's such chicken crap.

rough ridin' cowards

I think I have had enough of Currie. This wasn't the fulcrum, but I'm getting tired of these petty issues with him.
However, it must be noted that it looks like the whole page could use some updating. Reading Altman's profile, it states that he just finished his 15th season at Creighton.
-
Bet that page hasn't been touched in years.

Granted. Currie's even devious enough to have an excuse planned out in advance...well, the intern hadn't updated that in awhile.
Hell, the women's bball site tradition page seems to be up to date.
-
You could use the page instead as another data point showing kstatesports gives zero fucks about basketball.

it's this. kstate basketball was murdered.

But the women's basketball pages have been kept up to date.
What exactly is the contribution of women's basketball to the university revenue stream?

What's the next thing to ask for now that Schulz is interested in making KSU basketball things right?

Yeah, that's a glaring problem with the program now. I guess first we need to see if he's willing to extend efforts beyond having the computer guy paste the stuff from the media guide onto that web page.
http://issuu.com/k-statesports/docs/15-16_mbb_complete_guide/179?e=1198840/30909035
If Schulz is up for website fixes AND cookie cakes in the first couple days, we could be on the slow but steady path to getting the whole program back in shape by 2028.
-
Holy crap how embarrassing.
-
I think more than 10 people have to care about something for it to be embarrassing.
-
Probably overambitious, but you think Schulz has any pull with the schedule-makers?
I know, I know. Baby steps.
-
Don't get all uppity because the Animal silverbacked you.
Uh, wut?
okay wacky. I bet you totally didn't have a round of responses ready to go when he didn't fix it fast enough for you.
-
Actually, I didn't. Work is crazy right now.
-
Anyone who follows me around on here knows, i'm kinda butthurt towards Frank. So I really had no agenda towards that, other than our leaders are cowards, and butthurt that a great coach left them.
-

I noticed this too. I can't remember them showing Huggins either or Wooly.

I mean I don't mind so much Frank Franking himself, but I care that all the transparency bullshit was a charade.
-
I actually agree with Wacks, I'm butthurt that Currie outside of fund raising is dragging K-State athletics down into a malaise and not being able to handle Frank is a big part of that (and the fact that someone like Jaime Vaughn was allowed within 300 miles of the K-State campus, let alone the associate AD of compliance) . . . and I'm butthurt that Frank pushed all the buttons with Currie. I'll also add UPKS to this because on one side he's a major proponent of building athletic facilities, but he seems perfectly content on allowing his athletic director to place marketing slogans (and get alongers) above winning.
And while I'm on my screed . . . Currie has also created an environment that has set forth a war of attrition with our HOF Football coach (and until proven otherwise) that has harmed a real transition plan.

I think there is more common ground there. Tucks....well, they're just waiting for their next sale on dockers and vanilla soft serve.

It takes some real mental gymnastics to blame frank for the state of the athletic program

who really believes that? I'd most recognize Franky was a symptom of dysfunction.

Has anybody checked to see if it was fixed?

Yeah, it is.

Frank Martin
2007-12 (117-54)
Just like it had done twice before when it elevated assistants Tex Winter (1953) and Cotton Fitzsimmons (1968) to the head coaching spot, K-State tapped Bob Huggins’ top assistant Frank Martin as his replacement in 2007.
The fiery Martin, a native of Miami, Fla., took the baton from Huggins and led the school to arguably its greatest stretch in its long and storied history. He helped the Wildcats to a 117-54 (.684) overall record, including a 50-32 (.610) mark in Big 12 play, and the team advanced to the postseason each of his five seasons, including four trips to the NCAA Tournament (2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012). He is the first coach in school history to post five consecutive 20- win seasons and the first to guide the team to the postseason in each of his first five years. His 117 wins rank fourth in school history behind Jack Hartman (295), Tex Winter (261) and Jack Gardner (147).
Hired as the 23rd head coach on April 6, 2007, Martin posted one of the most successful inaugural campaigns in school history. He guided the Wildcats to a 21-12 record in 2007-08, including a third-place finish in the Big 12, and broke a 12-year drought in the NCAA Tournament. He became just the second rookie head coach in school history to lead his team to the NCAA Tournament and the first since Lon Kruger in 1986- 87. Under his tutelage, Michael Beasley posted one of the greatest seasons ever by a college freshman, averaging 26.2 points and 12.4 rebounds en route to earning consensus National Freshman of the Year honors and National Player of the Year honors from a number of outlets. Beasley became the first consensus first team All-American since 1959.
After an NIT finish in year two, Martin helped K-State to its first Elite Eight appearance in 22 seasons in 2009-10. Led by All-Americans Denis Clemente and Jacob Pullen, the Wildcats won a school-record 29 games and finished in a tie for second in the rugged Big 12. In all, the team set 23 team and individual school records, including the mark for scoring (2,949). For his effort, Martin was the Phillips 66 Big 12 Coach of the Year and a runner-up for the AP’s National Coach of the Year.
Martin left K-State in March 2012 for the head coaching job at South Carolina.
