Title: "Sports Cups"
Post by: WonderMeal on January 21, 2016, 08:17:36 PM
Anyone else on this blog that likes (or used to like) collecting "sports cups"?

When I was a little 'Cat, I remember collecting plastic KSU cups after games and trying to get a bigger stack than my siblings. My dad would never let me take them all home, but we still brought some home and cleaned them, and I always liked to drink out of them when I could. They were my cup of choice at home, no doubt.

In college, I started traveling to different Wildcat away games. I'm no Weird Robert, but I have been to a K-State game at every former Big XII stadium + WVU. () From these and non-Big XII games I attended, I amassed a pretty good collection of "sports cups," including UT, Nebraska, OU, WVU, Iowa State, Chiefs, Texans, multiple KSUs (obv), LSU, Georgia, and Minnesota.

Am I the only one who liked to collect these things, or are there other "sports cups" aficionados out there? If so, what are/were some of your best?

PS. Once, a guy I know was talking about "sports cups" basically yelled, "I HAVE THE BEST 'SPORTS CUPS' IN THIS HOUSE, AND EVERYBODY KNOWS IT." It was very weird.

I too have quite a few "sports cups" in our household.  They are great for getting pak'd out by the fire.

I only have about 10 or 12 sports cups but they're great and are what I drink cheap beer out of when I don't chug it directly out of a can.  The Royals cup that I drink from the most has a mini mural of several players on it including Gil Meche!  My Royals cups from 2013 on are for looks only, no more beer drinking since I'm afraid the washing process might erode the images from the cup.

One of my K State football cups is from the spectacular 2001 season and is now down in my basement functioning as a dart holder.

I have quite a few, but we use them and eventually we throw them away. My favorites right now are my Central Champs and WS Royals 16 oz beer cups, but the print is really starting to scratch off those.

Lil dobber brought home about 50 Fort Hays State University cups from a KSHSAA State Wrestling Tournament. Lil dobber's mom said "no more" after that. I have a few non-FHSU  in my cabinet, but the just sit in the back and get used a couple of times a year. The last one I used a lot was the Freeman "1".

The current KSU ones suck. The lip gets all jaggedy and will cut your lips.

some hockey player had their "sports cup" mangled last night after taking a direct hit from a slapshot.

I use to have a pretty cool gray sports cup that had the old mean looking K-State Wildcat head on it.  This sports cup was used so much that the Wildcat head was starting to fade off.  I wonder what ever happened to that sports cup.  (https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fyoursmiles.org%2Fmsmile%2Fthink%2Fm1703.gif&hash=7b2306fda1e0f5a4d01a452b67dd181641d5f01c)

I make it a point to throw plastic cups away.
