Title: great film scores and great film soundtracks
Post by: mocat on September 29, 2015, 04:59:20 PM
scores:
star wars trilogy
the rest of john williams: (jaws / indiana jones trilogy / jurassic park / schindler's list, ET, harry potter, SPR, etc)
the godfather i & ii
the hans zimmer thing: (gladiator / dark knight / inception)
the reznor/ross/fincher thing: (the social network / gone girl / to a lesser extent Girl with the Dragon tattoo)
the lord of the rings (also by Howard Shore but not exactly top 10 material: se7en, eastern promises, silence of the lambs)
requiem for a dream
edit: Predator has an incredible score

soundtracks:
boogie nights
apocalypse now
wes anderson: darjeeling limited / royal tenenbaums / life aquatic, etc
the watchmen
scorsese: goodfellas / departed / shutter island / mean streets, etc

these were all off the top of my head, feel free to add your own. i will also add some terrible ones later.

I just watched Mad Max: Fury Road this weekend and the music/score for that movie was epic. I mean, a bunch of dudes on drums on the back of a machine with a dude tied to the front ripping a guitar that spits fire? I think the score made the action all that better.
