The coach who won the MAC last year is now coaching at Iowa State. I love PJ Fleck but I love K-State a whole lot more. It is patently offensive that you think a 36 year old with four years coaching experience in the MAC is out of reach for us.

Yeah, he's gone for sure. The best quarterback and receiver (he's better than Greg Jennings) in school history are seniors on this team. They also have a very good running back who is a junior that may declare early.

He's got some building to do with the roster, they were pretty old. I do think his hire will keep players there who might have transferred because of what happened to Claeys. The only tough game they have against the east division is Michigan. The Minnesota non con schedule is waaaaayyyyy more pud than what Western has next year.

I'm curious who was on his list of 8 schools he would have went to, besides Minnesota.
i buy almost everything Fleck is selling in the world, besides this. There were far more schools than 8 Fleck would have left for, and if there was a list of 8, no way Minnesota was on it.
It was reported by more than one source that he wasn't leaving the Midwest because he wanted to stay close to his kids. Given he lost one, I'm willing to believe that. Having that knowledge, if you remove the crap like; KU, ISU, Purdue, Northwestern, Indiana, and Illinois, there isn't much left.

I would guess some of those schools might have been on the list too, I think he probably had a couple big schools on there, but also schools from close to where he's from, like Illinois. I'm guessing he views Illinois similar to how he views Minnesota.

I haven't taken a deep dive into this but it seems like Minnesota devotes more resources to football than Illinois, it certainly isn't nearly the rebuilding job. Kill and Claeys did a fantastic job of making that job more than respectable.

The Gophers had already broken ground on one of the larger indoor practice facilities in the nation, an Athlete's Village that includes brand new offices for the football coaches, built a brand new football stadium within the last 8 years.
