The proximity of our games (including KSU vs OSU) makes it especially interesting. I'm personally curious to see if UTSA is any good, or if they are just pretenders who caught a couple of decent teams on bad days.

But i think most of the lols come from Ole Miss suddenly becoming the second best team in the country. This is why we've not seen any post season not feature and SEC team in forever, the AP voters just play wack-a-mole with their votes. Remember last year when this exact same thing happened and Ole Miss jumped up to #3? They still dropped 4 games by the end of the season and probably weren't suddenly the best team in the world because they beat an increasingly vulnerable Alabama team. If a voter thinks Mizzou is a top 25 team the same voter has to think K-State is a top 15 team. LA Tech are a billion times better than UCONN and Arkansas State. 3. Missouri should not be ranked. tOSU could be lower, but it's hard to seriously argue that they are not one of the best teams in football even if they had a close game.

Yup, we most certainly would be. Esp after a bye week kinda wipes out the memory of the previous week, we might gain votes just because of that. And beating a 4-0 or a 3-1 OSU team on the road would be good enough to T25. I amazed that Iowa State is able to stop that juggernaut known as the Texas offense. I didn't know it was even legal to not allow a team walk down the field and score a touchdown on their first few possessions. Some one should let our coaching staff know this startling fact.

I agree. I get wanting to avoid any "slippery slope" of being in the business of reviewing game results, but in a case like this where the game literally came down to one reviewable call, it seems ridiculous to go on record saying the result should be different but then not actually change the result.
There should be a 24 hour window to review stuff like that.

I'm not bragging, yes I am, but a 1 loss Oklahoma winning the big 12 and advancing to the CFP was my preseason prediction. Also the only impediment to a 1 loss Oklahoma getting in is this exact combo:
1 loss SEC Champ
Undefeated Big 10 champ
Undefeated Clemson

There are so many scenarios it is tough to predict, but there is no doubt that a one-loss OU team gets in.

The last 4 weeks of the season will be very fun. There are about 15 games left between top 20 teams.The top 14 teams in this week's AP poll have the opportunity to play their way into the CFP. The only P5 team with 1 loss that has no shot is UNC.

The AP poll has them at #12 - the lowest of the 1 loss teams, but ahead of all 2 loss teams and the mid majors. Based on their schedule that is the correct spot for them IMO.

It's probably going to stay like that with Lincoln Riley. Albeit he does have a tendency to get stale, but I suspect the better overall coaching staff at OU over what was at ECU will alleviate some of that. OU simply came out flat against Texas, for whatever reason.

I've lost quite a bit of faith in the committee. The only thing I'm sure of is that if they don't want OU in the playoff, they will make a huge deal about the UT loss. If they want to put OU in, they will talk about how OU had a strong finish, that the UT game was an aberration, and that a certain other 1-loss team was able to overcome a disappointing early season loss to run the table last year.
The problem is the committee changes its talking points / emphasis so much it is obvious they are reverse-engineering their criteria.
None of that is true. You can whine and moan, but the committee has been consistent. Teams with more difficult schedules/conference championship/bigger names will get in. Not rocket science. A bigger name like OU will be fine with only one loss, where a Baylor would have to be undefeated.

IMO, the biggest difference between the three 1 loss Big 12 teams is OU beat a good SEC team on the road. Quality wins appear to matter much more than suspect losses. It's the same approach the basketball committee has had for years...

this. though the "better" wins will be marginally better (@ #11 vs. @ #9, and when you consider that the Big 12 has 3 teams in the top 15 vs. the pac 12 having just 1, what kind of win is that #9 vs that #11?). i have no idea what criteria this committee uses.

The Big 10 has 4 of the top 10 spots right now. If a 1 loss Iowa wins the conference and doesn't get in then the committee is taking either; Notre Dame with 1 top 25 win, a big 10 team that didn't play in the conference championship game, a two loss Pac 12 team, or a second Big 12 team. If Alvarez and Osborne have the influence we hear they have Iowa's getting in.

Have not attended an OSU game in person, but with the exception of the paddles most of their traditions I've noticed on TV seem to mimic other Big 12 teams. I believe I've seen them called Xerox U before. I'm sure someone has put together a list at some point.

I still thinks it's a win win. If the committee puts tOSU in, it would prompt a change in the current format due to the joke of a process they apparently have (which is, you either have to go undefeated in a P5 conference or you have to have a brand name).

State of Oklahoma is making the Big 12 even more shitty than we knew.
Had fingers crossed for OU, but had big doubts.
As to OSU, say this coming big time. OSU almost got beat by a screwed up KSU team in Stoolwater. You knew it was gonna be ugly against a team that could bring some talent and coaching into the game. Never been a fan of Gundy (way too cocky), and I think Ole Miss has had way too much time to plan for all the weaknesses in his schemes and to take advantage of the lack of on-field IQ of some of his players.

Yea, so in the current landscape the bowl season won't matter much. Still, this pretty much guarantees a 1-loss Big 12 team would get left out of the next CFP.

I think it drives/shapes perception early which to me becomes tough to shake/change as the season wears on. That said, brand name teams don't have to worry about crap. But if OU wins and is in the Natty and then everyone else just destroys their opponent, I think the conference would have more momentum (i.e. the last thing people remember when they go do their preseason polls).
that being said, with most conferences going towards having to play a p5 in the non-con, teams/conferences might be more easily judged moving forward.

True, I think this comes when the head coach is a defensive guy that is very hands off with the offense. I thought the initial time out was very strange and even worse when they got to the 3rd and short. I agree that the sprint out pass was very strange.
