What is a good way to rally support for this trainwreck of a season.....hmmmm how about some Bill Cosby rape jokes?
-
Well, I am in. How much are season tickets now?
-
Maybe oscar has some good Polish jokes?
-
meh
-
Is this a more or less offensive social media mishap than Marcus Foster and Tre Harris high on spring break? At first I think rape joke, but then I remember that Marcus and Tre were college athletes and Chet is a coach and I want to take his side in every circumstance because that makes me a better fan.
-
Pretty stellar 12 hours for K-State Sports social media :flush:
-
I hesitate to even say anything, obviously I don't agree with what Goolsby said, but it was well within the realm of a serious social/political position and he wasn't name calling or being immature about it. He has a perspective.
For a coach to IG out that crap is unreal. Chet has had lots of stupid meme stuff before, and that was fine as far as it went. But this is just a really bad look. How are you supposed to be talking to young men about how to carry themselves when you are acting like a clown on your social media and don't know how to carry yourself as a professional?
-
That's a joke about what a piece of crap Pill Cosby is. It's fine, except in the extremely rare (for many reasons) chance that there's a die-hard Cosby supporter that's also an awesome hoops player that we're recruiting.
-
I choose not to be offended by this.

It's probably not great to make fun of rape, even if the joke is at the expense of the rapist. Like, if someone gets murdered, and someone makes a hilarious meme about the murderer, I'm sure it's not making the family of the deceased feel any better.

Norm's SNL weekend updates are going to be severely hampered.

It's worse because Chet's a grown up.
for the rest of the morons ITT, keep in mind you can not necessarily be offended by it and still admit it's worse than what Tre and Marcus did, given their respective circumstances.

I don't think either mishap is really all that bad. Bill Cosby deserves everything he's getting, and if college kids want to get lit on the beach, good for them.

That's a disingenuous comparison.

yeah but one led to two kids getting kicked off the team

I say this as a former Doug Gottlieb supporter, Chet's social media presence should not be given the same latitude as a stand up comedian.

Yeah. The kids getting kicked off the team should have led to a coach getting fired.
-
I'll agree that Chet's not in a good position currently and perhaps more importantly, not smart/funny enough, to be trying out those sorts of comedic chops.
-
I don't think there's been enough Cosby bashing in the media. It's been very quiet. Ho hum...
-

I watched an entire documentary about the aristocrats dirty joke, I don't think it would be good if LHC Bill Snyder told that at Big XII media days to warm up the crowd. Wait, what am I talking about.

In a vacuum, I disagree, but if the other posts about what others on the team were saying happened, then yes. It really seems like there are much more indicators out there showing a lack of organization and dreadful management. This could be looked at as part of that. Chet has the right to social media, but as a coach, it's a tool, not an outlet for personal expression, and he just represented the team with a rape joke.
-

He was tried, convicted, and executed in the jury of public opinion quite a few months ago. I don't think it's been easy to muster up (again) the outrage that everyone already got out of their system quite awhile ago.

I just realized there's a lot of Gottfried/Aristocrats in my #oscar.

I just think it's funny what the media decides to lasso.

FWIW, I do not think it's ok he tweeted that.
-
Yeah, even if it was just a joke without a rape element it's a poor use of social media. He is basically in sales and his IG account is representing the basketball program. Using social media in this way is flat-out a bad way to do his job.
Get a private FB account if you want to post dumb memes, and use a public account for connecting to recruits.
-
I choose not to be offended by this.
I don't know if anyone is offended by it, the issue is how appropriate it is for him to ig this.

Also unethical in that he took someone else's joke and put it back out himself w/the "who did this?" bullshit instead of just RT'n or RIG'n the original joker.
-
what if we get some stud recruit now cause he laughed his balls off at that picture
-
I think the avg 40 y/o Cosby hater is out of eligibility.

Interesting premise, but zero examples of comics who got blacklisted on the college circuit.
Was this in response to the Cosby thing Chet posted?

So I take it from this article, that the college aged "MIR's" aren't to popular in the author's mind. :surprised:

i didn't like that he accepted that the waste of resources on drivel by the protobureaucrats as inevitable, but it's a good point that they are only a small part of overall campus culture.

Raises a good general question: Why do people take for granted that hating the player and hating the game are mutually exclusive?

that article is offensively long

But in 2013, the Departments of Justice and Education greatly broadened the definition of sexual harassment to include verbal conduct that is simply “unwelcome.” Out of fear of federal investigations, universities are now applying that standard—defining unwelcome speech as harassment—not just to sex, but to race, religion, and veteran status as well. Everyone is supposed to rely upon his or her own subjective feelings to decide whether a comment by a professor or a fellow student is unwelcome, and therefore grounds for a harassment claim. Emotional reasoning is now accepted as evidence.
I mean, isn't this what harassment has always been? If someone thinks speech is unwelcome, isn't it in fact unwelcome and could be considered harassment? Maybe I don't understand what harassment traditionally meant.

i should have warned you.
-
Until recently, the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights acknowledged that speech must be “objectively offensive” before it could be deemed actionable as sexual harassment—it would have to pass the “reasonable person” test.
^this isn't based on subjective feelings? Just because you say it's objective doesn't make it so.

I would have considered that microaggression
-
i think it could depend on how the standard is applied - in practice, i'm sure it's subjective. but it could be objective if the "reasonable" person is really the mean or median person and it was based on what %s of people find what stuff offensive.
-

would have been very empowering for me.

yes I suppose that's possible, but really it's probably some judge deciding what a reasonable person is offended by. (guessing)
-
reasonable person standard is used for all sorts of legal stuff. Like would a reasonable person similarly situated have let neighborhood kid Billy in the family Roman candle fight which resulted in a total loss of vision?

I like Westbrook, and don't even find it necessary to make clear that I like him in a heterosexual way only.
