I made the switch to a high density memory foam mattress last fall. It's been the best 6 months of sleep in my life.

But was the first week the best week of sleep in your life or the worst?

It may have taken a night or two to get situated, but definitely not a full week.

It's been 4 nights so far...but I also got a new pillow 2 nights ago and I think it is too thick. Last night was the worst night so far. It is not getting better.

memory foam mattresses take a while to break in. seriously jump around on it like a kid in a hotel room for a while

also, they absorb your body heat and get softer over time. if you leave for a few weeks when you come back it will be brick hard again

The one we got is a hybrid...like memory foam with some springs in it....or something like that.

We got a Tempurpedic Cloud about three years ago.  At first, my lower back started to hurt, but that's because our old mattress had zero support.  Over time, it worked itself out.

Now, I love that thing.  My wife is weird about it, and she says she prefers one with springs, but it's the most comfortable bed ever.

Same.  Cloud delux.  It is fantastic.   Have had it for several yrs and it is amazing.  I did start having some neck issues a while back and started sleeping without a pillow at all, and boom...great sleep, no neck issue.  The cloud contours well enough that I don't need a pillow.

Side note:  I bought my wife a new memory foam pillow about 6 months ago.  The sales guy was trying to get me to upgrade to the new version of the Cloud.  During which, he told me I could sell my tempurpedic on Craigs list for at least 1k-2k.  I called bullshit and he said that he has customers tell him they sell mattresses that are just short of a decade old for that on there.   :surprised:

Especially a ten year old mattress and especially for a thousand bucks.

I mean if you need to buy a mattress from Craigslist then you are probably too poor to pay more than $50 for it.

I think our Tempurpedic was about $4k when we bought it.  They aren't cheap.  They come with a 25 year warranty, and the only way you get that warranty is if you use some sort of special mattress cover.

It's my understanding that memory foam beds, at least Tempurpedic, are immune to a lot of things like bed bugs and stuff like that.  So, as long as it's wrapped in the mattress cover, you're probably fine.

Besides, memory foam beds get really comfortable between 3-5 years.  That's my experience.  I mean, mine is quite possibly the most comfortable anything I've ever come across.

Also, if you're really wanting to get weird about it, if you want to check out a Sleep Number, go stay at any Radisson for a night.  Every one I've ever been to has one.

I now avoid all Radisson hotels if humanly possible because I absolutely detest Sleep Number beds.

in my unfortunate experience with bed bugs, i don't see how what the mattress is made of would have any impact at all.

when you say 3-5...is the bed still manageable the first years? Cuz i ain't breaking in one for that long.

our iComfort does too.   Just more support in general (firmer) is what we wish for.    It was great at first, and felt right, but with the softening we regret not going firmer.

Have some dry runs where you just touch his nose in his sleep.

Or if you wanna be mean about it, cuddle him up. Wrap one arm over him and squeeze his nose til he wakes up then fall asleep in quiet.

replaced our 7 year old $900 king from Costco last month with the $1,200 "Stearns & Foster" king Costco now has in store.  The new mattress is at least 25% heavier than the old and has been great so far.

I rented the $19.99 truck from Home Depot to get it home and these people came and hauled the old one away a $20 donation - http://www.avenueoflife.org/in-kind-donations.html (http://www.avenueoflife.org/in-kind-donations.html)

trying to think of a time when SD gave bad advice on a consumer product (vacations, thermostats, etc) but I'm stumped.
I have a 22 year old temperpedic. Still sleep great on it.

I’ve looked at getting one of these.  Do you hear it?  Do you notice a difference laying on it? Most worried about the sound though

Sound is very soothing to me. Like a soft fan. You c an adjust it to be quieter but it will take it longer to cool down. We leave it at the standard setting because it has a nice white noise. Don’t feel it other than that it’s obviously cooler below me.

I've been looking at that system since December 'sd. I'm like lava level sleeper, but I love big huge blankets too. This seems it could be best of both worlds. I keep hearing great reviews from reputable people, the 'sd stamp of approval might put me over the top.

Your mattress buying strategy and tv buying strategies line up nicely with my own.

Edit: I know that doesn’t line up with the Casper recommendo, but my personal strategy is trumped by the do-nothing-and-sleep-on-whatever-my-wife-orders-off-the-internet strategy.

I had the same issue.  Years ago I bought a Tempur-Pedic mattress and it was very stiff.  I thought that sleeping on it over time would soften it, but it stayed hard and was very hot to lay on in one position.  I gave up and put it in the guess room and decided to once again shop by laying on several.  The one I picked turned out to be great.   It was a Beautyrest Black and on sale, so it turned out to be less than the Tempur-Pedic mattress.

I am getting an 8Sleep Pod Pro Cover cover to replace this. Not because the ooler doesn't rule because it for sure does and has changed my sleep dramatically for the better. but because mrs. dave wants one on her side to warm the bed up before cooling it off and I don't want two separate units. I'm probably going to just put the ooler in a box and pack it for travel. also the 8sleep has a bunch of sleep monitoring stuff and more advanced features. I'll review this thing in like a month. Not supposed to be here until end of Sep anyway.

It is fairly comfy, but yeah, its pretty hot. Its really hot with anything "abnormal" like being a bit sick or having a few drinks. I typically wake up in a pool of sweat on the weekends.

I'm new here and I just want to mention that, depending on the type of mattress and your individual preferences, it could take anywhere from a few nights to a few weeks to get used to it. However, if your back is still hurting after a few weeks, it might be worth checking if the mattress is right for you. You could also try adding a mattress topper or changing your sleeping position to see if that helps. And if you're ever in need of mattress recommendations or tips for better sleep, check out Sleep Underground's (https://www.sleepunderground.com/) website. They've got some great resources to help you get the best possible rest!

I have purchased a number of casper mattresses off the casper site, but i recently bought two that were second-hand.  Ran across this dude who handles returns and resells them at less than half price (other brands too).  They clean them (allegedly) and put them in plastic wrap...they aren't visibly worn at all.  Could have had dead bodies on them, or people having sex with dead bodies.  Who knows, but that's part of the fun isn't it!?!

Living in the Jaw for the last almost year my best 1k investment has been buying a good mattress with casper, who I also have one back at home.

Not to stan them, but in general, I don't care who you are, buying a mattress even if it's more expensive is always worth it's weight in gold. Few things in life compare to a good nights sleep, you have to do it right or else you are hurting your body, and therefore your mind, and thus the quality of your life.

I don't know if this is considered the Master sleep thread or not. One of my buddies just texted me and said that with his new job he has to be in the office at 7am. Has about a 30 minute commute. We are trying to find time in the week to hang out. He said he has to get his 8 hours of sleep at least or he cannot function.

I on the other hand can go with anywhere from 5-7 hours of sleep and be fine. Have I evolved? I have been like this a majority of my life.

I think some people just sleep very shitty which makes the 8 hours a requirement v. you who maybe sleeps super hard for 6 hours.

On that note I find that if I take some l-theanine and inositol near bedtime my sleep quality is noticeably better. highly recommend.

Its old and has gotten flat. Its fine when I fluff it up a bit before sleep but I keep waking up in the middle of the night and its just flat as crap. I like a pillow that has a bit of heft to it where I basically sink about half way into it. I've tried like 4 million pillows and it takes me forever to find one I like.

My Casper mattress boils my entire body if I have a few beers before sleep so I feel that smoking crack before bed would be a bad idea.

Also, if you are insinuating that crack smokers possess the best pillows and if I had some crack, I could trade for a great pillow, tell me more. I don't know how to obtain crack, but I feel like I could prob get some crack before I could find a pillow I like.
