EVERNOTE
https://evernote.com/

WHAT IS IT? it's like a software/app that helps you take notes, save stuff (emails, websites, pictures, whatever), make presentations, stuff like that.

IS IT GOOD? are you a hoarder or procrastinator? would you rather put off reading webpages for later? would you rather spend your time making lists instead of actually doing the things on the list? yeah, you'll love it. are you a normal person? probably not for you then.

SUMMARY don't waste time making lists to avoid actually doing your stuff

I use evernote for work because I need to put a lot of photos in reports and it copies lots of photos nicely into MS Word.

Sonos
http://www.sonos.com/

WHAT IS IT?
It's like speakers but mostly it's the software that makes the speakers do music. You just plug your speakers in to power and then you can make them play whatever music you want (pandora, radio stations, spotify, mp3s off your computer or phone or shared storage, like a million other things)

IS IT GOOD?
do you love being lazy about speakers and wiring and figuring out how to make your music go to what parts of your house? yeah, you'll love this stuff. do you like saving money, and wires? this isn't for you then.

SUMMARY A great thing that I can probably never live without for the rest of my life

JIF Crunchy Peanut Butter

WHAT IS IT?
It's peanut butter with chunks of peanut in it

IS IT GOOD?
Do you like chunky peanut butter? This is for you. Do you like normal peanut butter? Probably should pass

SUMMARY
It's the gold standard for crunchy peanut butter. But, it's chunky peanut butter.

Tecate beer

WHAT IS IT?
This is mexican beer

IS IT GOOD?
It's ok, falls somewhere in between corona (low end), modelo (high end) on the cheap mexican lager beer scale of which all essentially taste the same.

SUMMARY
It's ok!

I'd like to know more about Tidal

WHAT IS IT?
This is Jay Z's subscription based music service. He bought it from someone else and relaunched it recently. It has lossless quality available and works with sonos(!).

IS IT GOOD?
Probably, but it costs $10 for the standard sub (same as spotify) and $20 for the lossless sub. It has a couple artists that are going to exclusively be available via Tidal but nobody I really care about. It won't be around long (in its current form/price point).

SUMMARY
It's probably good but I'm not going to use it until it can offer something more unique or a lower price

Nebraska Brewing Company

WHAT IS IT?
It's an Omaha brewery and brewpub

IS IT GOOD?
They make excellent beer. They just started canning so that's good. Their small batch 750ml are really unique and worth trying but they are like $20 a bottle. Their brewpub is fine but it's in an awful area of town in the middle of some low/medium shopping center so I never go there.

SUMMARY
Good beer you should try if you run into it but don't go out of your way to visit the brewpub

Claussen dill pickles

WHAT IS IT?
A dill pickle that has to stay refrigerated

IS IT GOOD?
Yes, as dill pickles go they are probably the gold standard. More crisp than others but somewhat bland for my taste. They stay crisp better than most pickles.

SUMMARY
A good standard dill pickle if you want a standard dill pickle.

Tennis

WHAT IS IT?
This is a sport played between two or 4 people. You hit a small ball with a racket over a net back and forth. It's considered a "lifetime sport" meaning it can be played by people of any age.

IS IT GOOD?
Yes, it's pretty good if you find the right conditions. However, you need to have a partner who is available to play and good weather (unless you find an indoor facility).

SUMMARY
If you happen to have family or friends who play and don't live somewhere where it's windy or rainy or cold all the time then you should play this.

Nissan Maxima

WHAT IS IT?
This is the flagship Nissan Sedan

IS IT GOOD?
I don't know, maybe. At this price point they're competing with BMW/Lexus/Mercedes entry level cars though. You can also save a few dollars and get a Honda Accord or something similar.

SUMMARY
It's a quality 4 door sedan that I wouldn't buy

Snapchat

WHAT IS IT?
It's an app that lets you share pictures, videos, etc. for short periods of time. The person who gets the picture and video then looks at it but it's gone forever after a short period. In actuality there are ways you can save the pics/vids.

IS IT GOOD?
Do you like to look at short clips of kat kid's kid? Then this if for you!

SUMMARY
It's ok. Would probably be more exciting if I wasn't in my 30s and my friends sent me n00ds instead of pics of their kids/dogs/etc.

Los Angeles

WHAT IS IT?
A west coast city that's really spread out

IS IT GOOD?
Compared to other cities of very large size I'd say it's below average. It has a lot to offer but public transit/traffic is terrible. Airport is acceptable but not good. It has movie and TV stuff if you're into movies and TV.

SUMMARY
A big city with too many cars and no way to efficiently get people around to where they want to go

Omaha airport

!!!!

WHAT IS IT?
A small airport located in a medium sized midwestern city

IS IT GOOD?
Is it good to spend time at? No, definitely not. You can get a beer at either terminal but only good coffee inside of security at the North terminal. North terminal also has godfathers pizza as well as the coffee shop with various pastries and sandwiches. The south terminal has only gas station quality coffee with some sandwiches, nachos, pastries, etc. also of gas station quality. Outside of security there is more of a full service bar/restaurant as well as a lot of fast food places and another Scooters Coffee. Is it good to arrive at or depart from? Yes, absolutely. Parking is very abundant and cheap and security is usually a breeze. Has TSA precheck despite its pud size. Skyway from the parking garage straight to security on the second level is very convenient. Airline service from Alaska, Delta, Southwest, US Air/American, United, Frontier, Allegiant. Direct flights to: Seattle, Salt Lake, Oakland, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas (both airports), Houston, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Chicago (both airports), Detroit, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Orlando, Charlotte, DC, New York (EWR and LGA only). Some of these directs are only seasonal though.

SUMMARY
Featured prominently in the movie Up In The Air. In the movie you will see our hero Ryan Bingham (Clooney) buying his travel partner Natalie Keener (Anna Kendrick) some nice travel luggage at the airport to replace her pud luggage. This is complete horseshit as the only luggage you can buy at OMA is Hudson Booksellers type generic garbage.

Hey everyone, look at mocat going on an international flight! (I kid)

If it’s anything like economy plus on united, it’s probably not worth it. Just buy booze, (although I’m not a big fan of boozing on international flights, it makes it harder to adjust to the time change IMO)

WHAT IS IT?
This is a website/app that tracks your frequent flyer, hotel, etc. point programs, balances, expiration dates, travel plans, and serves as a gateway to automatically log in to all of your accounts.

IS IT GOOD?
Do you have more than a couple frequent flyer, hotel, etc accounts with balances? Then yes, it's good and very essential. It takes a bit to set it up with all of your account information and login information but once that is done it makes travel booking, tracking programs, tracking travel arrangements, etc. very easy.

SUMMARY
If you travel periodically and aren't using this you should sign up now. It is free to use but there is a small fee ($5 every 6 months I think) for it to track expiration dates of programs if that is worth it to you. I pay for that because it's very worth it. I have like 8 free premium memberships left I can give someone if they want to use the premium features free for a year so PM me if you want one.

Do wichita have TSA Pre and do the security lines get long sometimes? there is a bottle neck at the north terminal in OMA every morning about 7-8AM that wraps the line around the corner so it's great to have in OMA. also depends how much you hate taking off your shoes, removing liquids and laptops, removing your jacket, etc. I hate all of those things a lot and always carry on so it's great for me. Yes, I show up a bit later to the airport because I know my security line won't be a 20 minute wait no matter what.

He is going to boot this for lack of specifics
San Fran. In the spring.

I'm going to one in Branson MO in July lol
When you live far away, every wedding is a destination wedding. And I would rather go to Branson rather than another rough ridin' wedding at an ugly church in in Overland Park.

Well, I can guarantee you I'm never going to fly to anywhere as far as Asia in less than business class. But, if you are and you are picking between coach and coach+ and the cost is less than $100 that's a great deal imo. I can't believe your company doesn't let you fly business with that distance. You should quit because of that reason alone.

it is very ridiculous, but it's really not that bad. Before the economy tanked everyone flew business to Asia. After that only people one level above me fly business. And like, I'm traveling with these small groups where half the people get to fly business and the other half is in coach and we're all on the exact same schedule. And if someone one level above me can't get business approved (which often happens) I'm hopping around asia listening to oh god the horror of that coach flight a week ago. There's also an option for those that are eligible for business to take $800 cash if they save the company $3000 flying coach instead of business. I'd take it, no doubt. Do you know how many concert tickets you can buy with $800?

Also, I've found that I hit maximum discomfort at around 4 hours and honestly don't get any worse after that. And Plus doesn't help if you're under 6-4 - it's an F+ at best like I said. Maybe mocat wants to feel like a high roller boarding before group 3 - that's worth $160 to some people.

the main appeal for me would be the extra room and extra recline, since it is overnight. i have no idea how much extra room it is.

if it was $150, there would be no question, and i would not do it.
if it was $20, there would be no question, and i would do it.
but it's $79, so that's why i posed the question.

take the $800, book the coach seat, cancel the coach seat paying the cancellation penalty and pocketing the remainder, book yourself a biz class award seat on your own miles.

Southwest Rapid Rewards - the Visa card and the program.

WHAT IS IT?
An airline frequent flying program and credit card(s) issued by Chase.

IS IT GOOD?
Yes to both. The miles are very easy to use with no blackout dates and a roughly set value (recent change to the program added some variability to how "set" they are). The no blackout dates are somewhat deceiving though because they will run out of "wanna get away" space which is essentially their low level award space and you never want to use your miles to redeem for either of the higher cost tiers. flights can be cancelled free of charge and points thrown back into your account with no penalty. If you live in a city with SW service and want an easy option for domestic flight rewards this is it. The card offers periodic 50k point sign up bonuses which are good. The real value comes with attaining a companion pass in the program. to do so you either need to spend a ton of $ flying southwest or obtain 110k points in a calendar year. because chase has multiple versions of the SW card you are able to obtain a companion pass by getting two different 50k point bonuses and spending $10k on the cards. Then you companion can fly with you for free on any paid or award ticket for the remainder of that calendar year and the next. mrs. dave has the companion pass (I'm her companion) and over 100k miles so we will be flying the entire family wherever and whenever we want for the next two years for free on SW. Downside to the program is that there is no first class service, no service to HI, and limited international options. Using the card after you obtain the companion pass is a bad idea because there are a lot of better cards for everyday spend after the bonus is obtained.

SUMMARY
A great program for someone who doesn't need upper class service or international flights and who values simplicity.

GRADE:
A

Downside to the program is that there is no first class service, no service to HI, and limited international options. Using the card after you obtain the companion pass is a bad idea because there are a lot of better cards for everyday spend after the bonus is obtained.

SUMMARY
A great program for someone who doesn't need upper class service or international flights and who values simplicity.

GRADE:
A

question: do points transferred from a partner card that you got a bonus on count towards the 110k? like a barclays card or some crap?

The real value comes with attaining a companion pass in the program. to do so you either need to spend a ton of $ flying southwest or obtain 110k points in a calendar year. because chase has multiple versions of the SW card you are able to obtain a companion pass by getting two different 50k point bonuses and spending $10k on the cards. you can transfer UR points from Chase to SW but they don't count towards the bonus. BUT, you can transfer points from other programs and they do (Marriott points, SPG points, etc.). But, the transfer rate makes it a poor value. Better to just spend the money on the card or fly paid miles on SW.

Can range from A+ to F-. Sad zoos are very sad. Good zoos are one of the best things in the world. If you are going to make a zoo make it so the animals think it's awesome. Also make sure your gorilla can't smash the glass and rip everyone's heads off like ALMOST happened to me when I was at the world famous Henry Doorley Zoo two weekends ago which was the weekend after the gorilla almost did that.

Did not know you could combine two 50k signup bonuses for two cards onto 1 RR account. That doesn't seem possible. If so, that would be an amazing way to quickly earn a companion pass. We've already gotten a 50k bonus once when we signed up a few years ago so I don't think we'll ever be eligible again, but I'd still like details on how you accomplished this.

You can get each card every two years. There are multiple versions of the card (2 personal, 2 business). The same person has to get both. Get one, make min spend to get the points. Get another, spend until you get that bonus plus enough for the companion pass. Doing this in January gets you almost two years of companion pass. You should religiously follow me in the CC thread.

A married couple can essentially have the companion pass forever while doing almost nothing to earn it at the current rules. I doubt the current rules last much longer though. Guessing bonuses from cc signups go away whenever they decide to change it.

So I could sign up for both a "Plus Personal" and a "Premier Personal" the next time they're doing the 50k point promotion, and link both to the same RR account? This seems like a massive loophole that I can't believe SW hasn't closed down.

And if I already have the Premier Personal, what should I do? Somehow sign up for a Plus Personal and a Plus Business? I'd love to get a companion pass but I just really don't understand how Chase is going to let me open all of those accounts when I'm already a cardholder.

with precheck, do you show up to the airport later?

Also, is it worth it if I am flying out of Wichita?

Do wichita have TSA Pre and do the security lines get long sometimes? there is a bottle neck at the north terminal in OMA every morning about 7-8AM that wraps the line around the corner so it's great to have in OMA. also depends how much you hate taking off your shoes, removing liquids and laptops, removing your jacket, etc. I hate all of those things a lot and always carry on so it's great for me. Yes, I show up a bit later to the airport because I know my security line won't be a 20 minute wait no matter what.

Wichita has precheck, but I don't think the lines get very long (but I am usually flying out pretty early). I do hate taking off shoes, removing liquids, etc...

OK, I am going to go sign up on Monday.

PET COWS
The cows as a pet, not the people who own them (Jon Stewart and 4H kids)

WHAT IS IT?
It's an animal. bovine. ungulate (sp?). ruminant (sp?). ruminant means it barfs up its food to chew it more I think. mammal.

IS IT GOOD?
As a pet? no, absolutely not. It's too big to bring inside and it poops bucketfulls of poop constantly. It also doesn't live very long I think though I don't know if one has ever died of old age. If it gets mad at you it can kill you easily. if you try to kill it bare handed it will just stand there and look at you because you cannot hurt it. it will also wander off if you don't have a pretty good fence or pen for it. it will also get sick probably and cough all winter. this will either cause it to die or annoy you.

SUMMARY
It's probably one of the worst pets you can have. maybe a skunk that wasn't tame would be worse.

Crescent Moon in Omaha (yay or nay).  Near hotel and I want to watch Royals game.

i'll take this one...

WHAT IS IT?
amazing bar with a billion beers and a different bar called huber house in the basement where you drink beer from boots. also crazy big liquor/beer store attached i think

IS IT GOOD?
do you like beer? because this place has it in spades and is right up you alley if you do.

SUMMARY
i mean why not. you're in omaha so there really isn't much else to do. of course you should go here.

A

Dinner for 1.

RD, that was a good review. Not a good tv situation though.

Good recommendation.  I was the only one in the basement the entire time I was there though.  Probably should be in the drinking alone at bar thread.

Say, Rick. Do you think you could do a quick review of the Admirals Club Lounge? Even if you've never been to one, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this service.

ok. last one for me and then i duck out of sd's thread...

WHAT IS IT?
small area inside an airport that you can only get access to if you have a pass or pay a decent amount of money. inside of this place there are free crappy snacks, ok wifi and different average to below average beers, wines and well drinks.

IS IT GOOD?
do you like to drink before you fly? are you a slight germaphobe? do you desire nicer stuff than is what is directly available outside of gate B12? well than this place is YOUR place.

SUMMARY
good but not great. nice but not necessary. if you can get it for free or travel a lot and like to have drinks, duh freak duh.

Great idea. You should really have your very own review thread. The people would love it.
