Your score pegs you as economically moderately leftist and socially libertarian.

Moderate economic leftists generally support regulation of free trade and business to assure that workers are fairly treated and prices remain stable.

Social libertarians generally believe that the government should not judge morality, and are generally against the illegalization of things that do not directly affect other people in a negative way. Many strong social libertarians may also be social progressives, favoring legislation to correct what they see as socially backwards governmental regulation, although some simply wish for the government to make little judgment on social matters.

Moderate social libertarians generally favor a hands-off approach to social legislation. They may believe that the government has no right to enforce morals, but may support certain controls on individual rights to avoid crime, drug use, or similar social ills.

Moderate economic leftists generally support regulation of free trade and business to assure that workers are fairly treated and prices remain stable.

Social far-leftists generally believe that the government has no business enforcing morality on most matters, instead favoring a government that intervenes only when absolutely necessary to avoid direct harm. Many social far-leftists also look negatively on the government's past attitudes toward groups they view as persecuted, although some simply oppose government intervention on utilitarianist grounds.

Economic score: -2.06
Social score: -4.35Note your scores and Login to your Atlas Account to Save your Scores

Your score pegs you as economically center-leftist and socially moderately libertarian.

Economic center-leftists typically support above average controls on free trade, raising or maintaining the current tax levels, but still support free trade.

Moderate social libertarians generally favor a hands-off approach to social legislation. They may believe that the government has no right to enforce morals, but may support certain controls on individual rights to avoid crime, drug use, or similar social ills.

Your score pegs you as economically centrist and socially center-libertarian.

Economic centrists generally support economic policy that they see as fit for specific situations, although they may have different views relating to taxes and regulation.

Social center-libertarians generally have moderate social views, with a slight lean toward avoiding government intervention. However, they support government intervention in matters that they see as threats to society.

Your score pegs you as economically extremely capitalist and socially centrist.

Extreme capitalists generally believe that the free market should be unregulated and laissez-faire in nature, with government either only intervening in extreme cases or never intervening at all. They also believe in significant reductions of government services. Many extreme capitalists believe that it is not the government's responsibility to assure welfare for the poor, but rather that the poor should fend for themselves or receive welfare through some form of private charity.

Social centrists generally believe in a mix of individual liberties and controls, corresponding to what they see as moral or best for society.

Sanders' socialist ideals mean complete control federally and as big a government as you can get without going full fascist.

Yeah, I support us having the best military in the world, but I don't think we need to spend more on it than the rest of the world does combined like those people do. Also, surveillance. My God, the money they support spending to make you 0.001% safer.

Agreed.  Big part of our defense is due to trying to force stability on places we don't belong simply to maintain access to resources.  If we spent more money subsidizing the science of alternative power and storage, we wouldn't need need as much defense.

To be fair the more libertarian candidates on that list are more open to letting drug regulations drop. Though I still struggle with letting hard drugs just be legal. I don't think that is a positive thing. I support reducing penalties for non-violent drug crimes, you'd be surprised to find that several of the GOP candidates are on board with that as well.

The marriage thing is ludicrous. I have many friends who are batting for the other team and think that needing the word "marriage" attached to their unions is completely unnecessary. They just want the same rights. If you proposed a situation where it was a legal union but not called marriage you'd be just fine and everyone would be getting what they want. From my understanding it is only the loud majority that are desperate for the word marriage.

And on your final point, the actual desire has nothing to do with building a wall. Trump is placating to a select few with that nonsense. It is much more along the lines of making the immigration process less difficult, but not telling people who came here illegally that they are ok. It might not be fair right now, but illegal immigration is still that. Illegal.

Homosexuals, or as you say, "people batting for the other team", would like to be treated equally. This includes, but is not limited to, calling their legal union "marriage" just like heterosexuals ("teammates" in your lexicon).

"treated equally" means what do you think? To me it means that both sides are found to be in a situation that allows them to continue to live their lives free. Would that be correct for you? It would also be fair that the government's responsibility are civic. The founding fathers were not after a government that could tell people what they could and could not believe.

The word "marriage" is arbitrary. If the word marriage is sacred to a christian who in turn things it is between a man and a woman that make his view point different from yours sure. What true equality is gained for both sides (definition of equal) by forcing people to change their moral beliefs? That is not what was intended by government power. That is why all the government should be able to do is change its civil structure. This would allow all the same rights to civil unions whether they be between people of differing or the same gender.

the word "marriage" is arbitrary. What possible benefit could causing controversy have to the situation? I dont care if everyone can "get married" but at any point in time that our religious freedoms are being limited we should be just as outraged as if it was any other freedoms.

This country was built on the idea that the government could not tell us what to believe.

Whose religious freedom is being limited?

Anyone that would rather not provide a service to a homosexual couple because it goes against their beliefs. This situation might not be black and white so it in turn shouldn't be discussed that way. I don't support discrimination, but I also do not support a bakery having to close its doors because they didn't want to make a cake for someone.

A private business owner should have the right to refuse business to anyone. In a truly free market, if they are refusing business on a discriminatory standard than it will hurt their business and a competitor can arise to take that business and be successful.

You have absolutely no idea what you are saying yard dog

I know plenty about what I am saying. And, true to point, the liberals would rather attack me than have an open conversation. I have never understood this strategy. Growth comes from debate and discussion.

Whose religious freedom is being limited?

Those are direct correlations. You might not agree that the word marriage has a religious connection ( I think that it probably does, and those offended are not bigots). But you can agree that the change in that law is directly hurting religious freedoms due to its ripple effects (the business closures and discrimination lawsuits).

Sexual orientation is a protected class in those states irrespective of marriage.  Those businesses are not allowed to deny service based on sexual orientation.  The marriage is not the issue.

Also, I don't believe the courts of the justice system closed any of those businesses, the free market court of public opinion may have.

it is because you are wrong. there is no debate here. marriage, as defined by the state is a legal term. it doesn't matter what your definition of the term is. the state has a legal responsibility to offer all citizens the same treatment under the law. if you can't parse that out, you are a mental midget.

That is such an interesting moral grey area. I understand and agree it is great that everyone be able to do whatever they want without fear that something about them will keep them from being allowed to access to what they see as basic human rights. Id be interested to know why a homosexual couple would go to a place that doesn't agree with the practice for the cake vs another that happily supports it. I also believe that baking a cake for a customer doesn't mean you support their lifestyle, but not everyone feels that way. This current situation is a "do these things or we will take what is yours" situation which is scary. If only because of the president it can set.

I'm glad we are doing something to battle discrimination, but in your perfect dream society how long is the list of protected classes? What protection is fair? Should it be that if I decide as a private business owner I don't want to serve KU fans that I should pay any KU fan that walks through my doors and I turn away hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages?

The situation affords us little retrospective knowledge. Time will allow us proper perspective, but in the meantime I would rather protect our civil liberties than thirty years from now be like, "whoops, should have tried to stop that." So I encourage us to think about this stuff instead of just letting it happen.

That's the idea. It sounds disturbingly close to civil rights law. I am not pro segregation by any means. That's the downside to large ideas, they often don't have an obvious or immediate implication strategy. Such is the benefit of finding a common ground and encouraging a balance. I still think that private businesses have the right to serve who they want when they want, but not framed in discrimination. This whole situation is a battle of perspective.

DNR most of the last 2 pages of yarddog, but saying equal = free is stupid and a stupid door to what he and his are trying to use as a stupid opening to a stupid set of stupid principals based on stupid beliefs that lead to a stupid argument that isn't even the stupid argument.

equal = equal.  It's not hard.  Even for the stupid.  Any thing else something else and not the samething.

I could probably find a chart, or further prove it out in equation form if need be, but expecting that will do no good since the above is the simplest way to explain it and some aren't picking that up.

I was attempting = to define what equal meant. Perhaps unsuccessfully. It is nice to say equal = equal, but do you mean that everyone should own and have equal things? Should everyone have the equal amount of power and wealth? Should everyone live in an equal house? Should everyone drive an equal car?

Inequality is what drives commerce and capitalism. The drive to raise one's position in life and the world. I think saying everyone should be equal is vague enough to be a dangerous concept.

But, if you define equal as being treated equal under the law of the government. I would agree whole heartedly.

Put it in front of any right you want and you get "equal rights".  JFC

What the eff does equal marriage rights have to do with equal wealth?  I mean, again, I would show this to you in equation form and prove it out, but it seems like I would be wasting my time.  math and all.

Id be interested to know why a homosexual couple would go to a place that doesn't agree with the practice for the cake vs another that happily supports it.

Similarly, why would a black person want to sit at a lunch counter where they are not wanted when they could clearly go to one that is happy to serve them?

My initial reaction is that it seems like that is a different thing all together. I do concur that the similarities are alarming. I would think any person who feels like they are unwelcome somewhere probably wouldn't want to go there, but that isn't saying that not being welcome is right. I think it is fair to say that purely as individuals not one person deserves to be blocked off from the same services as everyone else based on gender, religion, or sexual orientation.

The scary things are the extremes. It's the fear of governmental precedents really. I have nothing but love for my friends that are homosexual. I want them to be happy. I know couples that are better couples than straight couples I know.

That being said there is an interesting new topic coming to light. So, for arguments sake, what about polygamists and pedophiles who claimed to be "born that way". Now we as logical people would say "no one is born a polygamist or a pedophile, that is just some weird thing they should fix in their lives through psychiatric treatment and suppress those desires". Yet, that is the same thing people were saying about homosexuals for a long time. Will we eventually be okay with polygamy and pedophilia?

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/jul/1/nathan-collier-sister-wives-polygamist-cites-gay-m/?page=all

http://standupforthetruth.com/2013/07/it-begins-pedophiles-call-for-same-rights-as-homosexuals/

http://www.wnd.com/2014/01/pedophilia-the-next-sexual-rights-revolution/

Both of those things to me are morally reprehensible. But, if it became more and more ok in everyday society, would I be a bigot to stand against it?

That wasn’t the question. I think you may need to retake it.

i considered other interpretations, but decided that given circumstances sufficiently extreme, i'd eat anything eatable.  as this would not distinguish me from other humans, i answered the question they meant to ask.

The problem with the question is they are interpreting the reason why someone wouldn't try monkey and only attributing one reason why. I hold no moral objection to trying monkey, I'm just betting that it taste horrific.

If someone I trusted swore to me it was good and tried to serve it to me in their home I would try it.  Otherwise I most likely would not.  I am legitimately curious for about half the questions whether the answer makes you more left or right leaning.

Your score pegs you as economically centrist and socially far-leftist.

Economic centrists generally support economic policy that they see as fit for specific situations, although they may have different views relating to taxes and regulation.

This one is probably the first fun political quiz that is really great, and it did not become a freaking political debate! Would you be likely to start over this one, guys?! I have seen a lot of political quizzes, but most of them are really "aggressive" as they try to make you support a particular political party or a certain regime. That is why I do not like them. However, I am a great fan of different fun quizzes, just like this one https://www.goforquiz.com/pottermore-house-quiz/ . I mean, this one tells you if you are a Gryffindor or not! I always wanted to know if I am good enough for Gryffindor!
