Title: Our Big Monday
Post by: bones129 on February 17, 2015, 12:16:51 AM
It's coming next Monday. Our moment in this year's ESPN sun. Marcus is back and the Hawks just took it on the chin.

Do we have a chance?

I will guarantee they don't smoke us.  It's the script.   We get our dicks punched off in Lawrence.  then, at home, we atone for the humiliation by treating our sandstorming fans to their superbowl basketball game.  we play 35 minutes of exciting basketball.  lose by 7.

Honestly, it would be very oscar-like to win this game. Probably lose all the others, but win against KU. It wouldn't shock me at all.

newspapers might be in more trouble than k-state's hoops program if that quote is buried at the bottom of an article rather than in big print as the headline. have never seen a player predict such massive defeat, and to a rival in-state opponent no less.

i'm beginning to wonder how believable the quote really is. maybe ken corbitt misunderstood what he said? i haven't seen this quote reported anywhere else, and given that it's the most jarring player quote i've ever read anywhere, i find that hard to believe.

i suppose it's possible that corbitt spoke to gipson one-on-one.

yeah, reading the gipson quote, it sounded like he meant, "if we play like we did today, we'll lose by 27." either he misspoke or his quote was taken out of context or he was super frustrated following a terrible loss. i prefer college kids to speak their minds rather than to mindlessly repeat what has been coached into them by robot SIDs, so hopefully it's an authentic quote in proper context. not the end of the world either way.

also, i'm still curious if corbitt got the quote in a one-on-one interview or in a pool setting.

EDIT: Yeah, that quote appears to be poorly presented in the paper.

Kellis' version sounds just as f'd/lol:

Quote
Returning home after a lengthy road trip might help. K-State plays its best at home — 11-4 this season — and knocked off No. 17 Oklahoma in its last game at Bramlage Coliseum.

“We’ll see what they’re about,” K-State basketball coach oscar Weber said. “You have one day, 24 hours, to get your mind right. You got a great crowd. We have played pretty energized at home. Obviously it’s a huge game and hopefully we’ll rise to the occasion and match Kansas on Monday. You just got to get your head right.”

K-State might also find confidence from its victory over Kansas last year in Manhattan. Then again, maybe not.

“That was last year. This is another year,” Gipson said. “We will probably lose by 27. Who knows? We have just got to come out and play hard.”

Yea, I'm not worried about the line as much as an online website that I can trust to get a payout from

i've been betting online since i was a teenager and have only been stiffed once, by a now-defunct site called betonsports, and that's because the site was owned and operated by scammers. the overwhelming majority of sites - close to all of them, really - will pay out and on time.

if you go to review sites such as SBR, you'll see some player complaints that have been filed. some are valid, but many aren't. also, when you consider the tens of thousands of players betting at these sites, it's pretty remarkable that there are so few payout grievances filed.

all offshore sites, certainly the reputable ones, want to pay and have no intention of stiffing. the typical reasons for delays has more to do with trying to get around US laws, figuring out processors, etc.

All of the A and B-rated books on this list are fine: http://www.sportsbookreview.com/sportsbooks/

Obviously, there are inherent risks involved with playing online given the current climate surrounding sports betting in our country. But absent of interference from the feds, which is always possible, I'd say the vast majority of these books have good to great reputations.

I mean, if you still care about winning, we need Marcus to shoot well.

In the last 10 games (3 of which he missed) Marcus is 10-48 from 3. That's .208, which is well below what we expect, especially since he's shooting nearly 7 a game in that stretch.

Marcus needs to go like 5-8 tonight along with other guys player well.

It isn't a sandbag, friend.  Just wait to watch us.  You will not be impressed.  Unless Brannen Greene shoots a lot and then you will be...

Should be a tough test. We will be lucky to escape with a win.  The boys better be ready to play tonight.  No easy wins on the road.  Our play has been inconsistent.  We struggle with focus.  This is a young team. A loss here wouldn't surprise me. KSU is underrated.

Our interior defenders have some inherent disadvantages. I think they'll shoot well from 2 against us.
