Title: Who to root for on Saturday:
Post by: 'taterblast on December 02, 2014, 06:48:48 PM
Georgia Tech over Florida State
Wisconsin over Ohio State
Kansas State over Baylor
Oregon/Arizona - help me out with this one. Do we want Arizona to lose so we jump them? or does it even matter because if Arizona wins they would just replace Oregon in the top 4? OR, if Arizona wins do we jump them both (not likely)?

1   Alabama   11-1
2   Oregon   11-1
3   TCU   10-1
4   Florida State   12-0
5   Ohio State   11-1
6   Baylor   10-1
7   Arizona   10-2
8   Michigan State   10-2
9   Kansas State   9-2
10   Mississippi State   10-2

How did we do against the two teams with a pulse that we played this year?

They both dominated us because we are slow and unathletic

Definitely Arizona. I doubt they would bump Oregon out if they lost to the same team twice and there were no other one loss teams besides FSU.

I think Alabama will stay in the playoff with a loss. They'll probably fall to #4. Honestly, I think it comes down to Iowa state.  :frown:

We're in if Arizona, OSU, and FSU lose. We would jump idle MSU if we beat Baylor.

I think all of those teams will lose so I think it will ultimately come down to whether we can beat Baylor...possible if Bryce is really skettied.
We started talking about this in the rankings thread. We think this is the answer.

Only three things need to happen:

1. Beat bu
2. Gtech beats fsu
3. Wisconsin beats osu

We prefer bama and Oregon to win, so as not to messy things up.

Tcu being above fsu tells us all we need to know about whether a 10-2 big 12 team is better than a 12-1 fsu team.

It's happening guys.

I know nobody wants to say it, so I will...

Mizzou over Bama.

The question then becomes, will the committee only drop Bama to #4 so that the almighty SEC isn't left out?

Why in god's name would you want this team to go to the playoff?  It would be no different than one of us stepping into the ring with mike tyson in his prime or a #16 seed in the NCAA tournament.  It wouldn't be fun, it would be a joke.

Don't let him eff with your ZEAL; only a idiot trying to be gE cool would call the 9th ranked team in the nation un-athletic.  By the way, he doesn't even know how to spell big words like un-athletic.  :whistle1:

If fsu and tosu both lose and ksu, Oregon, bama, and tcu win, we would have a decent shot. The only question would be if we would jump an fsu team with one loss but not conference champs. The shitty thing is that I think there's a fair chance of all that happening except us winning in Waco.

As much as I'd want to agree with this and regardless of the outcome in the CFP if we made it, I think it'd be pretty badass for lil ol' K-State to be part of the very first FBS level NCAA playoff.

It's already been said in the original post but just to reiterate. (as some of you are getting off topic)

Wisconsin beats tOSU
Georgia Tech beats FSU
Oregon beats Arizona
Alabama beats Mizzou

It would help if TCU loses to Iowa State but I'm not going to waste my time with that.

Then the only thing we would have to worry about is Georgia Tech leapfrogging us to get into the final four. They would have had three straight good wins, but with one of their losses being to UNC that probably is too much to overcome. Same with Wisconsin. (lost to NW)

Mizzou lost to Indiana. They are not moving from 16 to 4. If by some miracle we make the playoffs, I'd rather the SEC just not be there.

Under this scenario I guess we'd find out just how much the committee really does value a conference champ.  Since that would mean cats would be the 10-2 champs of the toughest league in college football and would be left out of the playoff.

Our odds should increase to 6 or 7% after we beat Baylor.

Well, all of the other games would pretty much be over by that point so our odds would either be very high or non-existant.

Timhawk math says regardless of the Baylor outcome, we are 50:50...either in or not.

let's do odds, the 'blast way.

cats beat baylor - 35%
Ga Tech beats Fla State - 40%
Oregon beats Arizona - 80%
Wisconsin beats Ohio St - 60%

(.35)(.4)(.8)(.6) = 6.72%

What algo are these percentages from? Or, are they just arbitrarily made up for your "guesstimation"?

Massey says:

Cats win - 37%
Jackets win - 49%
Duck wins - 77%
Wisky wins - 44%

(.37)(.49)(.77)(.44) = 6.14%

** although I think wisky has a better chance with Barrett out and I doubt Massey factors that in.

Just for comparison purposes, in this scenario Baylor would have an 18.9% chance, and OSU would have an 18% chance while FSU would have a 55% chance and Zona would have a 20% chance, obviously.  GaTech and Wisonsin are at 0% since the committee would have to do something weird to put them in.

Yes, Wisconsin is favored based on the Barrett injury.  Vegas is giving about 7 pts for Barrett as tOSU would be a 3 pt favorite if Barrett wasn't injured.

I think the sec and pac are getting one in either way. I think they take bama in a loss even. Az or Oregon is in. We need to jump fsu and tosu. If they both lose and we win, there a chance. Bama losing couldn't hurt but not sure it matters.

I can't reveal my proprietary formula (for obvious reasons), but f(sketti_Petty,OSU_down_another_QB,LHCBS_karma) actually spits out 0.46 (46%).  Seriously, though - algorithmic predictos are not capable of accurately accounting for the effects of those two HUGE QB injuries, so I don't see much value in them this weekend.

My fear: if Petty is clearly not 100% or plays little, will the result of our game even matter (assuming TCU wins) in the scenario in which FSU and OSU lose?  Could be downgraded to a "meh" victory, but I think we'd still get in.  I hope Petty is fully capable on Saturday.

I don't think anybody's claiming it's going to happen... Simply that it could happen.  We basically need a 3-team moneyline parlay to hit with a 9 pt dog (us), a 4 pt favorite and a 4 pt dog with us controlling our destiny in the most unlikely of the 3 scenarios.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Why in god's name would you want this team to go to the playoff?  It would be no different than one of us stepping into the ring with mike tyson in his prime or a #16 seed in the NCAA tournament.  It wouldn't be fun, it would be a joke.

Maybe we would want them in the playoff so we have a chance of winning a Natty? :dunno:

I don't think anybody's claiming it's going to happen... Simply that it could happen.  We basically need a 3-team moneyline parlay to hit with a 9 pt dog (us), a 4 pt favorite and a 4 pt dog with us controlling our destiny in the most unlikely of the 3 scenarios.

Let that sink in for a minute.

This is why timhawk likes to play parlays.

I'm sure it has been said in this dumb thread, but even if we beat Baylor by 4 TDs the committee won't rank us ahead of a two-loss 'Bama or a one-loss FSU.

Definitely Arizona. I doubt they would bump Oregon out if they lost to the same team twice and there were no other one loss teams besides FSU.

You're a rough ridin' idiot.

We both said Arizona needs to lose. I'm not sure what your rough ridin' deal is bad person.

He thought you meant definitely Arizona (needs to win), just a misinterpretation.
Still an bad person.  :Ugh:

They definitely would.  The question is whether they would jump Wisconsin over us because they don't want two big twelve teams in.

No, no they wouldn't. Everyone is acting like this is the poll-dependent BCS.

I disagree wholeheartedly.  I'm not sure what they'd do about putting a 2 loss SEC team in if Mizzou pulls the miracle, but they've been looking for a way to leave FSU out.

With that said, I think the Criminoles ass rape the Jackets tonight.  (Winston joke not implied)

Possibly for FSU, but no way they look at Bama vs KSU based on the whole season and pick us. If they lose today they still have a far better resume than us. We won't get that much credit for a shared big 12 when the team we share it with embarrassed us.

Ok maybe not Alabama but who cares because there isn't a chance in hell they lose.  But Florida State is definitely out if they lose. They've pretty much have already made that clear. Wisconsin or the 'Cats would be in.

The winner of Wisc - OSU will take it if there is a spot open.

They have a bad loss to Northwestern so hopefully not!

Sorry I just got really bummed when I saw the chairman of the committee on gameday. I let myself have hope that if everything went right we could get in, but now I don't feel like that anymore.

do we want bama to just go ahead and win this game?

I don't think it really matters but Missouri has no chance of getting in regardless.

That there is no way a team like K-State gets in ahead of a blue-blood with the same or better record.
