They can read the writing on the wall re: head trauma and the future of the sport.  Expect to see more of these announcements in the coming years.

probably a smart move, a lot more schools than you would think lose a lot of money with their football program

He's right, unfortunately.  Football is a dying sport, and with college basketball being unbearable to watch, it looks like this is the beginning of the end for me and K-State athletics.  MLB and NBA will have to sustain me.  Do you think KC could get an NBA team once the Chiefs no longer exist?

UAB fought hard to get an on campus stadium for years, but the board of trustees (run by Bama) shut them down time and time again.

The fun, tall tale reason is that the old UAB AD, Gene Bartow and Bear Bryant's son (a member of the trustees) had a feud because Bartow once called Bear Bryant a cheat or something.

Anyway, good, old fashioned stupid fun right there.

Couldn't they move the team to Wichita State?

This is much deeper than just football.  UAB started as an extension site of Bama that became the med school.  In the 60s they leveraged the med school to become a university.  In the 80s and 90s UAB grew quickly and started pulling major research dollars compared to Bama to the point people at UAB started calling Bama UAT.  UAB was on a path to pass Bama as an overall university.  Pro Bama people on the board didn't want that to happen and started pushing to grow Bama and push UAB to focus on the med school.  A lot of people want UAB to be just the med school and push everything else to Bama.  This is just the next step in that plan.

UAT should just focus on football, maybe think about going pro.

Many Fightin Jayhawk fans were more than willing to allow a guy who abused players to continue coaching.   This vacillation between sketti brain concerns and abusive coaches as long as their winning is quite . . . what would be the word?  A pickle?

Are there any players down there belonging to the now defunct UAB football program willing to play a little Snyder ball?  I'm sure UAB has some diamonds in the rough that need a little polishing.

IIRC UAB wanted to hire Jimbo Fisher a while back but Bama fans with influence prevented it.

Bama fans are just the worst. Imagine how bad KU would be if our fans could treat them like Bama treats UAB.
