speaking of Ponca City. The owner of my work had a 4 seater airplane and they would take periodic trips to the airport at Ponca City and eat mexican food at the airport. I had never gone, so the wife and I went with him one night after work.....flew all the way there and they had a "x" on the runway. Runway was closed. Flew to hutchinson and just ate at the airport there. Could of drove 45 minutes to Hutch, but instead it took us like 3 hours. What an enjoyable night! :sdeek:

As far as airport dining is concerned, I'm partial to the Stearman Field Bar and Grille in Benton KS. Last time there I ordered an old fashioned from the bartender and he seemed genuinely delighted by that.

I'm in very rural Osage county very beautiful similar to The Flint Hills. Closest big town is Ponca. What glorious City do you live in? Edmond?? Ponca used to be booming until Phillips bought the refinery. Ponca is better than Junction City, Salina, Liberal, Dodge City, Garden City so it probably wouldn't even make the top 10 worst of Kansas. Have you ever Been to Shawnee Oklahoma? Ponca sucks yes, but not as bad as you let on.

I live in NC now. Lived in Edmond. I traveled all of the very small towns of OK for my job. If they had farmland, I was there.

my aunt and uncle used to live in a little town called marlow, oklahoma. they moved there when my uncle took a job in a bank. just after they moved my aunt was showing my mom around the town and she took her to meet my uncle's boss, the bank president. upon meeting the guy my mom said she thought that marlow was a very nice little town. his response, "it sure is. we got good water and no niggers." my aunt and uncle moved back to douglas county, ks a couple years later.

Oklahoma is dog turds, but I do fondly remember visiting my Aunt Meg there as a child. She lived near Wakita, and pretty much the only thing to do around those parts was visit the drive-in movie theater. Seriously, they still had those. I must've seen half a dozen movies there, but the only one I remember was The Shining - not because it was particularly scary, but because later that night an F4 'nader ripped through the area and leveled Aunt Meg's house Flat as a Pancake (s/o to Head East). Heaven's of all heavens, Aunt Meg and her dog survived, though truth be told they were a bit worse for wear.
