Title: Real basketball meat to chew on
Post by: renocat on September 29, 2014, 10:58:47 PM
Just read an article at www.sbnation.com/college-basketball.  It gives a super promising analysis for the upcoming year.  "Could be Weber's best  team since Dee Ford".  Hope you read this.

"There's such a tradition at Kansas State. I think we've been able to re-energize it," Weber said. "My biggest goal is to keep it going and take another step. Do we have the talent and athleticism to make a nice run, go deep in the tournament? You bet. I feel deep down like we'll be really good."

"I think we'll be one of the better defensive teams in the Big 12 and in the country," Weber said. "We have to do what we do well and that's guard people. That's how we'll win close games."

The way I look at it, is that Will and Shane equated to one effective scorer for the team last year because of their inconsistencies. So they get replaced by Edwards as a whole and we still get to add Hurt. All other positions improve with the off season and experience.

Let's be honest.  Nobody here gave a crap about basketball before oscar came on board and now he's got you guys all pumped up and ready to pop.  I mean the change in fan interest and passion for the go purple cats men's hooping team is night and day.  oscar has delivered one and all.  That's not even taking into account the vastly increased exposure in the national media JUST LIKE THIS ARTICLE RIGHT HERE.

Did you ever notice that when Shane was on we won, and when he wasn't we sucked? Everyone ready to pop their dick off over this team and we don't have a forward capable of shooting a three (Wesley against OU excluded). oscar's comments setting this squad up to underachieve

I am not worried about 3 point shooting or rebounding this year.  Marcus, Nigel, Tre, Edwards and Hurt should be fair 3 point shooters; even Wes can make them occasionally.  Rebounding should be improved with the addition of Hurt, Bolden, and Malek – they give us more height and fresh bodies to have a high rebounding effort for the entire game.   Our depth should allow us to keep fresh legs in the game at all times and keep the intensity of play going all game.  My biggest concern is free throw shooting.  We have to improve it would be interesting to know how many points we lost last year on missed free throws and the opportunity to shoot bonus free throws.  The transition game should be better also  Edwards, Nigel, Marcus, Jevon, Malek, Bolden, and Wes should run the floor well.  Nino, DJamer and Gip will provide the muscle underneath the basket.

Kansas State: The Wildcats won 20 games and made an NCAA tournament appearance last season. This year, oscar Weber is hoping sophomores Marcus Foster — a potential first-team All-American — and Westicles, who played major roles in their first year, can take K-State a step further. The program adds four-star forward Malek Harris, as well transfers Hopper, Brandon Bolden and Big Meat. Contending for the Big 12 title isn’t out of the question pending Foster’s ability to develop as a playmaker.

Old Spice is the man-hunk slow footed 3 bomber from Tx.  I read Buechler is hurt and out for the year.  He has 5 years in which to play 4.  Not sure if this can only happen if he is redshirted.   He is a preferred walk on.  Staff must think he has potential.  I'm still perplexed about Hopkrapgood as to why he is still on scholarship. I guess a practice body is needed; maybe a secret weapon.

Jevon and Nigel are better than people think. Both missed of the fall workouts last year. Moving an elite shooting guard to a point guard can really back fire.

Since Weber has arrived we seem to have a sleeper and clunker player every year.  A sleeper is someone that surprises the media and a clunker is someone to torture on a thread.  1st year sleeper - DJamer/ clunker - Orris.  2nd year Foster - sleeper/ Krap clunker.  IMO this year sleeper is Edwards and clunker is Bolden; too skrawny.

NBC Sports
http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/10/13/2014-2015-season-preview-ranking-the-biggest-x-factors/
“Kansas State’s transfers: Marcus Foster has a shot to be a first-team all-american this season, but there are still some questions with his supporting cast. Westicles, Nigel Johnson and Jevon Thomas are all expected to take a step forward, and Malek Harris is a four-star addition, but it is a trio of transfers that could make the difference. Hopper could end up being a double-figure scorer on the wing, while Big Meat and, to a lesser extent, Brandon Bolden give oscar Weber some much-needed height in the paint.”
