Title: Sun glasses thread
Post by: 420seriouscat69 on September 05, 2014, 10:37:38 AM
I was just curious? I've always wanted nice ones, but I know how I get when I pak. Anyways, Ms. wacky wants a new pair of ray bans for her bday. I just got her these bad boys. I think I got a good deal on them too.

I bought mine with my HSA account.  Pretty sweet deal.  Alternative investment vehicle and luxory accessory account.  Also, for getting sick and stuff I guess.

Ray Bans are good. I've had a couple of pair over the years. I know have a pair of Maui Jims that I really like.

I wouldn't buy my wife a pair of sunglasses because the fit and look can vary quite a bit from person to person and style to style. Make certain Ms.Wacky really loves them, and if not, bring her back to buy a pair that she does love.

Hey, on another note, are you coming to TCU!?!?

I like knockoff raybans. But I feel guilty because I don't know the conditions where they were made. Then I hand over $5 or so and put on my new sunglasses.

I like my Ray Bans, but my one complaint is that they are too heavy.  When I walk indoors, I like to put my sunglasses on my shirt and not over my head.  If I bend down why they are clipped on my shirt they slide off because they are too heavy.

That is my one complaint with the style of Maui Jims that I have. I don't know if it is too heavy, or just how the weight is distributed.

I like the Maui Jims I have now and they are not heavy at all....although I never put them on my shirt. Also I would never buy a pair of sunglasses without being able to try them on so someone buying them for me would not work very well...hopefully it is not a problem for her to go exchange them.

I get the Tropics Winds brand at Sams.   Nice style and seem well made.    Now if I could go more than 7 months without cracking the lenses.

I generally misplace sunglasses when I am out and about wearing them and then it gets dark and I don't have anywhere to put them and I'm a very active guy so I can't just expect them to stay on my collar and I don't carry a purse and so that's when they get lost.

I have a pair of Ray-Ban's that look like aviators, but a little more rectangular that my mom got me for christmas 2 years ago.  Came back from the Fiesta Bowl and my frames were mumped.  Took them to Sunglass Hut (not even where she got them) in the mall and they made them feel brand new again. FOR FREE.  So yeah, Ray Bans will bend a little bit but they won't break.

I don't recommend putting sunglasses straps on them though.

I like my Ray Bans, but my one complaint is that they are too heavy.  When I walk indoors, I like to put my sunglasses on my shirt and not over my head.  If I bend down why they are clipped on my shirt they slide off because they are too heavy.

Put them on the back of your shirt. Won't fall off that way.

So I've been wearing ms. wacky's old glasses that are like these (6 years old, scratched up, etc.) after I bought her, her new ones for her bday. Recently I left them at the office over night and I think they were taken by the night crew, because they're no where to be found. Would you demand your significant other to buy a brand new pair asap if you were in this situation? Like, the value of these used up ray bans might be around $50, but she wants new ones asap, since I let them get stolen in my possession. Where would you stand? I'm on the fence on this one.

If you bought her new sunglasses why would she care about the old scratched up sunglasses?  Once you started wearing her old pair they became yours.

EDIT: These ones

(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa1.zassets.com%2Fimages%2Fz%2F1%2F0%2F2%2F0%2F6%2F5%2F1020657-p-MULTIVIEW.jpg&hash=ac84146b094d92d7bdcb4a343e037c1aba3001de)
Ugh.

That was my thought process, but not hers. I get where she's coming from, but I wish she would accept my offer to buy the $80 ones from ebay, instead of the $200 pair (that looks exactly the same) from Halls.

Nope. Won't allow it.

Agreed. Then I got this email.

Quote
I am so disappointed in reaction to this wacky. This is common sense, no matter if we are talking $200 sunglasses or $20 tshirt. It’s all the same and you act like we didn’t discuss this multiple times.
I save my money and choose to spend it on expensive things sometimes. If someone, anyone, were to borrow one of these things and ruin/lose it, I would expect them to replace them, no questions asked.
I think what makes me the most upset is that I approached initially  in a very nice email and you got nasty, you start attacking me.  You are completely deflecting from the real issue, that now the glasses need to be replaced and you don’t want to spend the $.
You again have not even apologized for losing something that did not belong to you and was a nice, expensive possession of mine that I paid for and still used.

Also, buy the ebay ones and tell her you got them at sunglass hut and they were a display set.

reply to that e-mail and just point out that terrible comma splice.  Woof.

She is right, though.  You do technically owe her for those sunglasses.  However, you need to make her prove the actual value of the sunglasses you lost, because it is not full-retail price.  Make her show you what identical used sunglasses in similar condition have been selling for recently on the secondary market.  If she tries to cherry pick and find the highest asking price for a used pair, go Rick Harrison on her ass. Oh yeah? That's probably why they haven't sold, BOOM.

I think emailing that discussion is fine. Sometimes that type of conversation is better because you can think a little about what you're saying before the other person receives it, (and we know our guy wacky has said some stuff he didn't mean in an off the cuff convo). It's weird that she demands you replace something that was essentially yours but whatever.

Also, those ebay sunglasses are probably knockoffs and not worth $80.

this seems like a pretty fundamental flaw in the 'ship. not the caring about material possessions or whatever, just the way wacky and ms wacky communicate with each other.
there are loads of people out there who would respond to wacky losing the sunglasses in a much different way ("oh that's too bad, oh well nbd", etc), and not think it was weird or think wacky was being unreasonable.
there are also loads of people out there who would respond differently to ms wacky's initial reaction ("sure no problem, i'll get you some new ones", etc), and not think it was weird or think ms wacky was being unreasonable.

the problem here is that neither one's instinct seems to work well with the other's.  :frown:

this seems like a pretty fundamental flaw in the 'ship. not the caring about material possessions or whatever, just the way wacky and ms wacky communicate with each other.
there are loads of people out there who would respond to wacky losing the sunglasses in a much different way ("oh that's too bad, oh well nbd", etc), and not think it was weird or think wacky was being unreasonable.
there are also loads of people out there who would respond differently to ms wacky's initial reaction ("sure no problem, i'll get you some new ones", etc), and not think it was weird or think ms wacky was being unreasonable.

the problem here is that neither one's instinct seems to work well with the other's.  :frown:

this is a communication/personality issue, not a sunglasses issue

Its kind of a sunglasses issue though

the sunglasses could be absolutely anything though. they could be forgetting to take the trash out or leaving the front door unlocked or not taking a shower this morning or any number of things

Nope.  This is all communication and respect.

I mean, short of infidelity, or worse, I can't think of a reason I wouldn't be welcome in my own house tonight.

I honestly think it would be wise to do a little premarital counseling with someone before tying the knot. Actually I think all couples should do that.

Bigtime agree with Cf3 here. I don't care if it's done through a church or otherwise, but this is really helpful for a lot of people--and after reading this thread, it certainly seems like it would be helpful for my main man Wacky. It's kind of awkward to go through it at first, but the awkwardness is definitely worth it. Things like wage ultimata and the difference in response to sunglassesgate expose some pretty serious communication issues that need to be discussed outside of fights and message boards/text threads.

Anyone in the KC area know of any places/churches/programs Mrs. Wacky and Wacky could go to?

If possible, I would also like to encounter Cf3, dobbs (again!), CNS, and Mocat. Maybe we could have a GoodHusbandsPAK and invite others?

counseling?  how about both (who are in their 30's) just realize that they're different people, that it's probably not a good idea to jam a square peg into a round hole, and that while their dating time was fun, it's time to kick rocks on the idea of a long term relationship

not everyone fits with everyone else.  "counseling"  in your scenario equates to completely gutting one of the two people in the relationship.  who the eff would sign up for that?

Should have been more clear in my post: Wacky and Mrs. Wacky should go through some pre-marital counseling only if they get engaged and if Wacky still has his heart set on marrying this gal.

Wacky - i read this thread and then I went and read the 85k ultimatum thread. you've got to have a serious convo with her about what kind of life you see for yourselves. people tend to gloss over the generic vows, but "for richer or for poorer" means that she's marrying YOU, not the lifestyle that she thinks you can provide her.

Thanks, man. Will do. Also, as 'clams was saying too, I'm not innocent either. I do a lot of stupid crap that drives her crazy too (drink too much at times during the week, not cleaning up after myself, etc.). It just seems like I listen to her criticism more and try to understand more than she does at times.

Those two issues seem like reasonable things a couple can work through if they really like each other. The salary ultimatum and trying to make you feel like an irresponsible piece of crap because you lost a pair of sunglasses (just because you got her the wrong size) don't seem like reconcilable issues.

time to move on, wacky. you cant make a life decision based on a bunch of stuff in a storage unit. you cant change what she expects out of a husband and that you arent that. find someone who accepts you for who you are and doesnt expect you to change. there are people out there, but the pond isnt getting any bigger as you get older. no time to waste in a relationship that wont work.

wackycat08, has mswacky been this close to a ring before?
No. Was in a 5 year relationship before me, but he didn't want to leave his bartending gig down at the lake of the Ozarks and he stayed down there and they moved on. He also cheated on her and was her younger bros bff (same age as me).

so the measuring stick is that you can last 5 years if you live in different cities and get strange.

so how long is a monogamous, cohabitation thing gonna last.

not trying to be a dick, or goE here...

Wow. Just read this thread and the 85K thread.

It sucks when you are a saver and the other person is a spender.
Sounds like she has put her expectations out there and they do not sync with Wacky's. It seems like Wacky needs to do the same - tell her his expectations for the future (like maybe he wants to have a job that he likes but doesn't necessarily pay a lot, or maybe he expects her to pump out 5 kids and then go back to work immediately, or whatever it is he envisions for their future together) and then have a talk (in person) to see if their two sides can meet in the middle and if not then maybe it is time to go separate ways.

I think bff means something different to WC08 than to you.

Lol. Now I just got a call. Her friend Andy left a handle of Titos at our place over the weekend for the games and he lives in Denver. Cool guy. She said: "I know you're watching the games tonight. You're not making a drink with the Titos are you? I'd like to keep around the good stuff before you guzzle it down". Me: "Sure thing, babe!" Her: "ARE YOU TRYING TO START A FIGHT OVER THIS?!" Me: "No. I was just agreeing with you". Good god!

One of my friends is 40. He has a good job making much more than the $85k threshold that has been proposed. He is married with two kids. He took off last Thursday and Friday and is taking off this Thursday and Friday to watch basketball. He even drove to Greensboro 3 nights last week to watch the ACC Tournament.

He is very responsible.

I missed this.  I'd like to get in on it.  We can all sit around tugging on each other's dicks about what great guys we are.  It's going to be rough ridin' fantastic and I cannot wait.

I went on a 45 minute rant about her breaking my balls, talking down to me, not being supportive when I needed her, not being good enough, etc. And I left her with a deer in the head lights type of look. Like I said, if things don't change soon, I'M OUT! I can't rough ridin' do this and this relationship doesn't have the base to last a marriage. My parents made it work with 2 kids, while being in college, blah blah blah. "enough is enough!" The next thing you knew...

Yup. Laid it all out there. She admitted to being worried when I lost my job about the future and I told her that's fair. I also told her that I was able to find work within a week in both situations and that should tell her something about my motivation and networking capabilities. We dished all of our concerns and agreed to work on the petty stuff or else it will be time to move on soon.

Yes and she back peddled. "I never said it like that!" "I just think a lot of you and I know you can do more than what you're doing. I want you to be happy and strive for more. You just don't seem happy at this type of work and schedule". <------ Totally fair.

Oh plz. I've ended so many "relationships" on petty crap when I was younger and it was mainly cause I wanted to be single. When you care about someone, you try to work out the issues, and if they don't, then you move on. This has built up and it needed to be addressed. If it doesn't work after this, peace out.

In all seriousness WC, does Ms. WC love you and the thought of being together for the long term, or does she love the idea of a lifestyle that she perceives will make her happy? It seems to me that she has a version of her life she desires and the person she ends up with is less important than the status and the stuff.

She absolutely loves me. She goes crazy anytime the thought of me leaving comes into her head. I think she had this notion of what her child life was like before her family lost a lot of it and she wants it back, but she understands you have to earn it. I think that messed her up a bit.

Bump for Combofan '16 -

I want sunglasses but never like the way they look.  I think I need a glasses place to adjust the nose piece as they seem to always sit uneven on my nose (must be my nose).  Big ass aviators are too lazy and just what people where when they don't want to try.  People should post pictures of their sunglasses and help me find a winner.

just go into sunglass hut and try on a million pairs until you find some that fit your facial nasal region.  that's what i do.  take a couple selfies with a couple different pairs, then go home and look at them for a couple days until you decide on which ones you want.

someone should invent auto-dimming contact lenses for all the people with bad genes that have to wear glasses/contacts

I call them Sunny G's, Dark Makers, or Terminators.

Also Eyeball Tints, Eye Clouds, and Double Sun Monocles.

Lake Ozark, MO, the Cabo of the Midwest.  :Gocho: <---but with Maui Jims.
True Story: I dove into the Ozarks last summer not realizing I was wearing my maui jims.  My sunglasses since then have been a patchwork fiasco of cheap POSs.

I bought a pair of Persols last night and am very much looking forward to them arriving.

EDIT: Also @8manpick , I know we discussed me purchasing your old/current pair.  I don't need to do that anymore.

I haven't had a nice pair in probably a decade. I have gone through like 4 pairs of $15-20 shitty ones over the past couple of years. The ones I had broke when I was on vacation this past week. I just ordered my first ever pair of nice Ray-Bans and they are even gonna have engraving on them. Should be here in like a week.

I'm so damn near sighted that I have to get prescription sunglasses. I wear ray-ban wayfarer brown frame with light brown tint. Forget that I have them on frequently. The tint is perfect. Had them for a good five years.

So they came today and I am a little underwhelmed tbh lol.  Yeah the inside of each over my ears part of the frame has my initials, yeah the case has my initials but they don’t feel that different that the $15 glasses I had.  What exactly did I get for $150 other than they got here from Italy in 4 days? Lol

I like the new wayfarers. I have like 4 pairs because I always forget to pack them and there is a sunglasses hut in every airport.

If you had $150 to Sunglass Hut, what glasses are you buying? Wifey hooked me up this year for our anniversary/Father’s Day.

Ray Ban has reissued the gold aviators.  I have a vintage 23k pair but I mostly wear all black knock arounds.

I would take the $150 to Dollar Tree and buy 150 pairs of aviators and be set for life.  Or least for 3-4 years.

This was a trap. Sunglass Hut has buy one, get a 2nd pair half off. Now Mrs. Wacky is getting a new pair too.”

Very few purchases have given me as much satisfaction as my Ray Bans with prescription lenses.

I’m a weird glasses guy. My face doesn’t fit most glasses well. We got polarized black ray bans yesterday and aviators. I’d post pics, but for new ones and unused try on glasses it takes two business days. Hopefully I’ll report back soon.

Broke out some of my Oliver Peoples sunglasses in Paris.  Feeling pretty elite with all the local poors wearing ray bans
