Title: NEED HELP! KSU Graduate Students first Trip to Manhattan for the Texas Game
Post by: WildcatHokie on August 28, 2014, 07:09:46 PM
Hey KSU NATION!  :ksu:

I'm a Hokie (Virginia Tech) undergrad, but for the past 4 years I've been taking classes remotely at KSU to get my Masters in Engineering. My friend and I are both traveling to Manhattan (for the first time ever) to defend our masters on October 24-26. We are planning on attending the KSU/Texas game while we are in town. We'd love some input from true KSU fans. Things like...

- Best places to buy tickets. Is scalping a good option?
- Suggestions on best places to sit for KSU fans. We are willing to pay around $100 per ticket but definitely don't want to sit with the Texas fans. Where do the rowdy KSU fans usually sit?
- General gameday suggestions for cool things to see
- Places we MUST see and great places to eat in manhattan
- Where to buy KSU gear. Shirts, etc.
- Best bars?

Looking forward to the season and especially making the trip to Manhattan!  :billdance:

Last I checked there was no "power engineering" degree, sorry bub.

Don't listen to them wildhokie, most of these kids still live in their moms basement.  Welcome to the most informative message board in the world.

You'll want to try and get a room at the Bluemont hotel.  It's opening this fall and right by campus and Aggieville (bar district).  Just follow the lead of what everyone else on here does/goes and you'll be all set.

I think going to so long and getting a shirt at thread would be a good idea.  I would also recommend getting tickets ahead of time as scalping market is very uneven.

There's a really good Olive Garden in town. It's a little pricey but you've got that Virginia Tech money. :kstategrad:

Thanks meow meow and Kat Kid. All the rooms were booked for that weekend so we got a room at at Americas Best Value Inn (doesn't have great reviews but was the closest place to campus with available rooms).

Will definitely check out so long and thread.

Mainly concerned about where in the stadium to get tickets. I'd just prefer not to be in the visitor section.

Make sure you do not purchase tickets in the visitor section, in that case.  If you avoid doing that, you should be surrounded by a destruction of wildcats.

I would recommend looking for east side club level seats or west side sections 5-11.

You might be able to grab a pair if you diligently check the third party sites starting now.

Buy tickets from other KSU buds on craigslist or that powercat ticket exchange thing

- Suggestions on best places to sit for KSU fans. We are willing to pay around $100 per ticket but definitely don't want to sit with the Texas fans. Where do the rowdy KSU fans usually sit? The best seats(I think) are West stadium chairbacks(tons of tucks tho), my seats are south endzone/bowl and I like them

- General gameday suggestions for cool things to see Get there early, bring tailgate stuff, lots of booze and food, be nice to Robert when you see him

- Places we MUST see and great places to eat in manhattan So long's, Taco Lucha, Cox Bro's BBQ, Jimmy John's(after the bars close Saturday night/Sunday morning)

- Where to buy KSU gear. Shirts, etc. Varney's or the new K-State Super Store

- Best bars? Aggie Station, So Longs, Kites is ok, if you feel dirty definitely Tubby's dance side, even dirtier Rusty's

Looking forward to the season and especially making the trip to Manhattan!  :billdance:

I would try and find a better hotel to stay at, the holiday inn is close to campus/Aggieville.  Cab it from hilton garden inn, and checkout downtown MHk.  Just a few suggestos.  Closer to game time there will probably be a tailgate pak, you should plan on just doing that.

Welcome WildcatHokie. If you get a chance, check out some of pristine peripheral beauty of Manhattan, start with Konza prairie and then head down Deep Creek Road to Pillsbury. Go east over the dam on Tuttle Creek a few miles and take a left (north) on Carnahan Creek Road. Beautiful Flint Hills landscapes, and if the sumac is red,

Myself and a small group will be making it back for this game. One guy in our group went to Virginia.

Let me know if you want me to arrange a meet up so you two can duke it out for our enjoyment.

He's a pretty small guy but I assume he's scrappy.

Probably something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vrYnbWaprg (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vrYnbWaprg)

I took a class taught by Dr. Starrett a couple years ago. Also I don't know if you want to sit in the student section or not, but there's a ticket exchange group on facebook solely for student tickets. You would have to somehow get the pass back to whoever you bought it from which could be a pain for you.

Yes, I would recommend this before going to upper deck.  I don't know why you should necessarily avoid the visiting seating section, it's not like you are sitting next to the OU band or Nebraska fans for this game.

I can't speak for the burger at Kite's.

Just go to every bar in the Aggieville district and tell the bartender you want the establishment's signature drink. You will have a lot of fun but remember none of it an wake up with an itch in personal places and get worried that u got something serious but it turns out that it's nothing but later find out you did get HPV, which you prolly actually got before that night so zall good.

Do this, but go to Auntie Maes last. waks will probably serve you something that will end your night.

wildcathokie- everybody is screwing with you about kites. it's an inside joke we do to people we don't like but i like you. don't go there. also, try to get out of that hotel you currently have. it's a 1.5 star dump. like somebody said earlier, scalpers might be ok but it's also sometimes hit/miss for big games. check stubhub and craigslist and start right now. stay away from the southeast corner if you don't want opposing fans. that's probably where they will be. also try to avoid upper deck east side (421, 422, etc). those seats are absolute garbage.

for food and drinks just stay in aggieville and you'll be fine.
food-so long saloon, taco lucha, coco bolos, aggie station and rock a belly deli.
for drinks there's a billion places, but i would at least drop into auntie maes (basement bar) and aggie lounge (crap hole) because of the uniqueness of each. make the rounds though. that's what aggieville is for.

The Big Train's food (and to some degree bar) recommendations are a bit concerning

which ones

Omission of Mae's drinking and Aggie Lounge's food was puzzling to say the least

my first inclination just now was to say that i wasn't and have it be some sort of shot towards stevesie but that would have been a pretty rotten thing to do. i fixed it.

Come back onto this blog after the game and tell us what drink you got at each establishment that you can remember. I'll bet you get a Busch Light can at the Aggie Lounge.

Keep posting and reading, even if you think someone is being an bad person. This is the internet and people like to have  fun. You've gotten some outstanding advice from Rowddddddddddboy. If you are real, Winters is the king of Manhattan and he will make certain you are hooked up, except for the hotel situation, there is only so much he can do for his mom's basement.
