I know we have a lot of them on this board. I need some help. What is the best service provider from an overall standpoint? Coverage, price, features, quality, best phone selection, etc.
I need a new phone and I want to know who I should go with. Please, no fighting about Apple and stuff. Tia
-
Right now i'd say Sprint and Verizon have the upper hand. (this coming from an iPhone user)
-
just get the coolest phone
-
Saul- that's where I'm torn. Not sure if there's a clear cut best option.
MC- any suggestions? I mostly use my phone for email, text, web stuff. Don't talk much.
-
the best coverage depends upon where you live. different carriers are better than others in different areas.
the best value is with sprint. the 'any mobile any time' plan for $69.99 includes unlimited internet, data, texts and is the best value in the industry.
the best phones depends on what kind of phone you want. outside of the iphone, i think that sprint has the best phone line up b/c they have something for everyone and have several free phones.

wait for evo 4g on sprint
-
Clams- thanks for the info. That Sprint plan sounds like what I need. As far as coverage, it would be mostly the KC and surrounding area.
MC- when does it come out?

Early June, supposedly.

The EVO 4G comes out this summer, and if you need convincing that it'll be the best phone in existence to date, read this (http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/htc-evo-4g-is-sprints-android-powered-knight-in-superphone-armo/).

Will this be a sprint only phone? or will it be released to others later?

Only Sprint. It's a Wimax 4G phone. Nobody else is using that I believe.

i didn't. i meant to hit quote and ask you a question about the phone but accidently hit edit. i didn't change anything. i was going to ask how much you thought the phone would be.

no one else in north america is wimax, the rest of the world has it in a lot of places but the phone won't work there.

Hmm...might have to switch to Sprint in a year or so...or maybe another phone will come out that is comparable.

One time I accidently did that to a PW post and he got pissed, PISSED!

Not sure if there's a clear cut best option.
Yeah, those companies all compete with each other. They all have about the same options for phones and plans.
The benefit of 4G is better than 3G quality streaming video anywhere in the (very limited for now) network lacking a WiFi connection. Very cool but very far from necessary.
Take that, Sprint people.

Looks like you should be prodding pissclams, not me. With prices, I don't know until everyone knows, usually. Sorry bros.
But, it's not that hard to guess, looking at past smartphone launches. Chum probably isn't far off.

no. clams obviously doesn't know anything. he's just trying to act to cool for the school. the problem is that he does not even know the directions to the school more/less the homework assignment. typical dropout probably working at a fast food restaurant somewhere w/ three kids hoping to make shift manager. :blah: :blah:

pissclams (or whoever), would htc evo 4g be worth getting if living in place (manhattan, ks) where 4g coverage isn't available. i guess the 3g stuff would still work right?

Yeah, Omaha has never been mentioned for 4g either but I'm still prolly going to get it if the plans are the same price. The snapdragon and android were the things I was really waiting for.

Absolutely. 4G is really just icing on the already-delicious cake. It's the phone itself that you should be drooling over.

Kougz- can't see your link or whatever it was. What makes it so much better than everything else?

Kougz- can't see your link or whatever it was. What makes it so much better than everything else?
It has a snapdragon 1 ghz processor
512 mb of ram
1gb built in memory
Android 2.1
8 megapixel camera
can shoot 720p video
hdmi out
:dunno:
-
Also, as has been noted a lot, it is the only phone with 4g which is basically meaningless to me but would be a big deal if you lived in one of the places that has it/will get it.

FYI, if you are partial to Verizon at all, they will be rolling out a new HTC Android phone by the end of April. The HTC Incredible isn't quite as cool as the EVO 4G (no 4G, no front camera), but has similar specs other than that.

Memory: 576MB RAM/512MB ROM
8GB Internal Storage, expandable via microSD

Weight: 4.6 ounces with battery.
Battery: 1300 mAh
aGPS, Digital compass, Proximity Sensor, Light sensor

Not quite the EVO 4G, but not bad for Verizon either. Definitely an upgrade from my Touch Pro.

True. $200 is pretty sweet.
And why does Sprint announce the EVO 4G, but then wait months until you can buy it?

It's a simple marketing strategy, to let the anticipation build. IIRC, Jobs announced the iPhone well before its launch. It's not uncommon.

I don't hate 4.3" screens. In fact I want one really badly. I hate 3.7" screens, since they're not what I want, though.

I get that, but when will phones become too big? The EVO will be nearly 5 inches long.
Just do the IPad thing and get Skype, like someone said in that thread.

Oh please. It's about the same size as the iphone. It just minimizes the bezel and maximizes the screen size. It's .3 inches longer than the iphone. How is that an extravagant increase in size?

Is anything but the HD2 available at 4.3"? :dunno:
I know smartphone competition is getting kind of crazy good, but still.

Probably not, I'm "just saying", you know?
At some point it does seem like it might get a little ridiculous with some 6 inch phone or something.
And FYI, if EVO 4G was coming out on Verizon instead of Incredible, yeah I'd get it
And rusty, no I haven't seen another phone that big yet. The 4.8x2.6x.5 dimensions of the EVO are the biggest. IPhone is 4.5x2.4x.48 and Incredible is 4.6x2.3x.47 for comparison.

Only the HD2 as far as I know. I think a few companies have them in the works though.

Yeah, I hear ya. I really don't see it happening with much more than 4.5" just for the size of the pocket. What really needs to happen is something like wireless HDMI built in phones so you can throw it up on monitors or your tv when you're doing something.

The only thing I don't like about the EVO is the huge size. Seems like it would get squished in my pocket.

The bigger the thing looks in my pocket, the better.
