I was going to redirect you to the destination salina thread but this seems pretty cool comparatively

Stuff I know about Cincinnati:
Huggins
Nick Lachey
Reds/Bengals
Skyline Chili
WKRP
-
Seems like a good combo. Buying lederhosen probably seems like a much better idea when you are at a brewery.

But, yes, this thread can be about any town that no one gives a crap about, including Cleveland.

Columbus, OH. I got to interview Larry Flynt's chief photographer, who made Flynt let him work from Florida. He said something about now way in hell he was moving to Columbus.

based upon the thread responses this puppy has received, apparently there are a whole lot of people who give a whole lot of crap about the Queen City.
oh well, poor chum1, stewed again

chum, local thoughts on the use of "cincy"?
Not commonly used by locals, but they would be indifferent and not miss a beat if they heard it used. I can't think of any names that would bother them.

the Nat?
Is "The Natti" frequently used by suburban bros? that would surely bother some hipsters.
Is the tennis tourney like a huge deal there?
-
what is their abbreviation for it if it isn't cincy? please don't tell me they say the whole four syllable word every single time.

People in the suburbs would say "downtown" or "the city" and might do so while saying they don't go there because it's too dangerous.
"The Nati" had urban roots, I'm pretty sure, and primarily used, though not all that much, by longtime black residents.
Hipsters in Over the Rhine might take offense if you say that they live in some poor, adjacent neighborhood like Avondale rather than "OTR." They have lots of OTR pride.
I can't imagine that as many as 1 out of 10 people are aware when the tennis tournament is happening. The pics on news sites and such talking about the upcoming tournament all featured Nadal, last year's champ. No one has a clue that he is not playing this year.
-

If they're talking to other locals, they would say the name of their neighborhood or suburb. Otherwise, they're not saying "Cincinnati" enough to be tedious.
-
Can you ask for less than 4lbs of cheese on your spaghetti or is that frowned upon?

That's crazy. It should be a huge deal to the Nat.
-

Not possible. No one could ever conceive of such a thing.
-
Interesting background on "The Nati" - the first I heard it used was on the Jim Rome show in the 90s
too bad this one didn't stick
Cincinnati for many years was known as "Porkopolis", a name perhaps not much coveted by the citizens of the Queen City but justified possibly by the large pork interests centered here for several decades
-
Chum1... No offense to your fine city but that ain't chili. Damn spaghetti sauce.

Do Cincinatieers use Porkopolis like Kansas Citians use cow town?

They love to pout about Kenyon Martin breaking his leg right before the tourney.

Does Cincy have a rival? Louisville? Columbus? Indy? Cleveland?

Right now, there is a segment of city people who are SUPER sensitive about the amount of bike lane construction going on. REAL cities have an abundance of bike lanes, you know? Let me show you pictures of the wonderful, beautiful bike lanes in cities like Paris and Amsterdam. Let me tell you about the virtues of bicylcle transportation!
-
Yes, cincy seems like it would have lots of comparisons to REAL CITIES.
-
Does Cincy have a rival? Louisville? Columbus? Indy? Cleveland?
Not really. Lots of people in the metro area don't like the Steelers. And the St. Louis Cardinals. But I think it's pretty limited to the sports teams. Some people in Cleveland don't like Cincinnati, but that's largely a one-sided thing.

William Howard Taft is from Cincinnati.

I would say Cincinnati is a Tier 4 city.

Nope. Manhattan townie! :Lolrun:

No.

Kansas city has a better downtown stadium, better views from the surrounding hills via tram rides, better subway system, really its no contest. Put Pittsburgh in a body bag!

The view of downtown Cincinnati that appears as you approach from the south (Kentucky) is lovely.

Wow, that's terrific. I've only seen like two terrible photos before. Supposedly, they wouldn't be able to use the tunnels today because they're not up to code and it would be cheaper to start from scratch than try to mess with them.

weird, but the part that stuck out the most to me is that they cover the water main with visqueen

gigabit internet is about to hit the 'nati
http://www.engadget.com/2014/08/18/cincinnati-gigabit/
but not so fast. why? well, interestingly enough, cincinnati bell- the company offering the fiber, supposedly sucks ass. i'm eager to hear reports from across the 'nati area from people's experiences with CB. i'm sure we'll here a good mix of reviews and this data may help other residents of the queen city make a more informed purchasing decision. so speak up 'nati fiber heads, let's use this thread to its potential.

Biggest Octoberfest weekend in Cincinnati. (Although, there are several big weekends.) On Friday, had an Octoberfest party at work. Some wore their personal liederhosen and/or green felt hats with feathers. We ate sausages and potato pancakes and pretzels and drank beer. This morning, I ran a 14K "brewery run" and was handed two Hudepohl tall boys at the finish line along with the finisher's medal. Now, I'm all showered up and ready to head back downtown to eat sausages and schnitzels and pretzels and whatever else and drink beer. It's just what people here do, so I'm going with it.
-
That sounds awesome. Congrats on partaking in the festivities in full force!
Gonna win 'em all!
-
chum, that sounds amazing
-
eating sausage by itself is disgusting. hopefully you're pairing it up with a bun or bread of some sort.
-
Germany is such a garbage country.
-
I find myself caring about chum's town
-
I, too, partook in the Oktoberfest in Cincinatti this past weekend. Broke down my beer experience in what I thought was the proper thread, but the knowledgeable KC enlightened me and now I'm discussing it here.
HUGE festival (3rd largest in the world after Germany-duh, and Toronto). Enjoyed many delicious brews, and some great food as well. Goetta was new to me, and I loved it. Even purchased some to bring home and make soon. Going back next year for sure.

Oh, man. The bike enthusiasts do not like the mayor because he is not bike friendly enough for them. Now this.

He's sticking to his guns even though it's against the law.
-
It's like he's trolling them. Exactly like it. He's right in their neighborhood. He could be demonstrating to himself how he's right that that area doesn't need more bike lanes or something like that, which is funny, too. I kinda doubt that he just wanted to take a ride.
-
Question about your town... When are they supposed to finish the construction on 75? That project is a serious pita when traveling to Dayton.
-
No idea. 71 doesn't take you too far out of the way at all and is a much more pleasant drive - even when there isn't construction on 75.
