What is the typical protocol on this? I usually don't use the brights on the interstate, because I've never really known if it's kosher or not. Too much traffic to constantly be flipping them on and of most of the time. On the other hand, interstate roadways, especially in Kansas are separated by enough median that I'm not sure if brights really effect oncoming drivers.
I thought of it this morning while driving home from work, tired, and not wanting to smash into any deer.
-
Good person protocol is don't, I believe
-
I use them and turn off when there is an oncoming car, even with a separated margin.
-
It depends on the totality of the circumstances.
-
eff people who leave them on while cars are oncoming.

i almost hate it more when cars come from behind and leave them on

The worst.
Asking for a brake check imo.
-
I hate when oncoming cars think my normal lights are my brights and flash me and are all probably telling their passengers "look at this jerk not turning his brights off"....so now I'm known as a jerk in that whole car for doing nothing wrong. Really bums me out.

Is this really thread worthy?
Isn't this just basic knowledge to turn them off when oncoming is near and when people in front of you get close?

What if it's like on 177 between Lincoln and Manhattan and you haven't seen another car in a long time?

That's a highway not an interstate stupid
-
It goes from Nebraska to Kansas, so by definition it's an interstate.

Stevsie doesn't know what an interstate is, what a hayseed townie hick

Flip your rear view mirror and turn your side mirrors until they are perpendicular to your car. That gets then to turn them off in a hurry.

Not on the list pal. You drop a dumbbell on your brain?

Guys I drove on 75th street in KC today. It crosses state line road from Missouri to Kansas. ITS AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY!

Probably a better argument than 177

Well, I see you're still upset that I ruined your relationship with j-dub by pointing out your glaring crush on Tobias.

Would this be considered an interstate love triangle?

When this happens to me I flip on the brights :don'tcare:
-
if there's no other traffic you'd be blinding you can, just like any other road.

flash yours right back. now he's the jackass.
-
Seems white midwesternery. Seems  to think about driving in an interstate anywhere on the east coast at any time and being the only car around.
Gonna win 'em all!
-
depends on how dark it is
depends on how busy it is
depends on how hilly it is
depends on how wide the median is
depends on how many deer I want slamming into my car
-
Id say anytime after midnight 11PM youre good to use them and turn em off when approaching cars.
if you pass a car that doesnt have their lights on, on a two lane road, especially in Kansas, do NOT flick your lights on at them telling them they're off...youre dead.
-
If there is a big median separating the traffic, it doesn't really matter if you have your brights on or not. Nobody 300 ft to your left is going to be bothered by it.
-
When I go back to KS it's like I have to learn how to use my bright lights all over again because I never use them anytime else.

Good point. I also hate people who own cars where the normal headlights are so friggin' bright that they look like brights. It's actually worse because they can't be turned off. You don't need the equivalent of two small suns emanating from the front of your car to see, dipshits.

i think it was because you made it seem like it gets darker between MHK and Topeka for some reason.
-
i've driven between manhattan and topeka at all hours of the day/night probably approaching a thousand times. there is two gas stations, a rest area and a weigh station, all illuminated. on top of that, i don't think i've ever gone more than a mile without a car in either direction. if i have, i certainly didn't put my brights on for that short amount of time.
anyway, i noticed this weekend that the only time i use my brights is on dirt country roads, and then flash them off when i approach a house.

at first i thought it was a racist joke or something, but west of topeka is definitely not the "black" section of town.

Sorry I'll never post about headlights on the interstate without all knowing i70 expert sevens permission first

Still trying to figure out how any of that was remotely racist but whatever
