i think it reminds me that not a lot has really changed. i tend to think of cat football in the DOD as flawless a high flying score-on-every-play show, but they did the same frustrating crap we do now. but, in the end, were a very effective offense, just like now.

I enjoy the 2012 Tech game. They came out and marched up and down on us. Got very nervous since they were ranked and coming off spanking WVU. And then boom, the hit by Meshak and fumble return changed everything. The destruction didn't end until AB's pick six and the ensuing Gusgasm.
The past 3 Tech games have been pretty great. In 2011, no one was ever really sure if we were good, and our first two touchdowns were a Nigel Malone INT in the first minute of the game and a Lockett kick off return. They had been running the ball at will, but we blocked two of their FG's and were down 8 at half. Then Klein throws a beaut to Harper over the shoulder in the corner of the endzone, down 1. TT catches a ball over his head that leads to an awesome double backwards somersault. We cruise into the win after that.
In 2012, we had such a rocky start and I thought it wouldn't be enough to overcome. Tech had only lost one game at that point and I thought they were the real deal, though I may have been the only one. Refs were being dicks, calling back Childs fumble recover that should have been a TD because of some nonsense call on Mueller. Tech was up 10-3 until the middle of the 2nd quarter when Hubert got stood up by the entire Tech team at the goal line, but backed it out to the corner to tie it up. Then it was so, so fun. Blocking FGs again, Harper being dubbed "The People's Champion", "ARTHUR.....BROWN.......JUNIOR!!!!!!"s touchdown.
And of course this year, Tech was just in the top 10, again we struggle at the beginning. And then we just turn it on and never turn it off or even think of turning it off. Mueller and Zimmerman had what would have been a coming out party if they hadn't been studs before, Sams was high stepping all over the field, 4 TDs in the 2nd quarter.
So yeah, they've all been one of my favorite games of the season.

I wouldn't say we cruised to a win in 2011.
We created multiple turnovers in the second half but couldn't score to put the game away. Eventually Tech moved the ball in the fourth quarter and Tubs opted for a field goal on 4th down after failing to score when they had 2nd and goal at the 1 yard line. Then on the ensuing kick off we didn't recover the onside kick and had to sweat out the final minutes because of that.
Loved that game. Couldn't have happened to a better opponent either.

I ran into a guy on the training staff during this season at a fan appreciation day a couple years ago. He said multiple Cats were cramping and a couple puking during halftime of this game. The team left it all on the field and it was a major turning point for the program.

I'm not sure when it was installed, but I'd guess it was the original. Of course, there was a grass playing surface for the first few seasons.
By the mid-80's the end-zones & cat head had been re-painted so many times they were literally like slick concrete.

The sustained roar of the crowd during the last minutes of that game was unlike anything I had heard at BSFS. It was not "crowd noise" to disrupt communication of the other teams offense (we had the ball.) It was shear excitement/happiness of winning at the same time laughing at the "history awaits" team.

Yea, that game rough ridin' sucked man. Turn it off. Too painful watchin Q. Griffin slice us up. Although looking back at the stats, he doesn't stand out that much. In my head though, I have vivid memories of him making some big plays. We stopped their run that day, almost completely, still rough ridin' lost. That game burned bad, really wanted to beat Stoops that day.

Fwiw literally nobody forgets that. If you ever talk about loudest games and loudest moments this game gets mentioned pretty quickly.

We had no answers for the spread because Snyder kept insisting on attacking the QB. I believe it was the next year Les Miles and OSU ran an amoeba defense against OU and won the game. Not rushing, just contain and dropping tons of guys into coverage.

That was a revolutionary game in the Big 12 spectrum. Back then everybody was loading up on big linebackers and physical safeties because the top teams were so run-dominant. Heupel just nickle and dimed the whole conference that year and no school had the schemes/personnel to deal with it. That was also the pirate's first year at Tech. The middle-tier - Tech, OkSt and Mizzou - evolved over the next ~5 years, while much of the old guard regressed. Late 90s/early 00s Big 12 football :Woot:

I admit I sometimes miss the Phil Bennett all or nothing D vs the spread as our bending to the breaking point D is giving up 3rd down conversion after 3rd down conversion

Mr. KK, I'll watch with you! I remember being pretty steamed that Tommy came back to town that weekend and was cheering for the other guys. But I guess you can't expect much from a Tornado.

I think the loudest I ever attended was 2002 USC. Very loud and underrated.
The loudest game I remember attending at BSFS was the 4 overtime game against A&M in 2011. As the DVDs said the next day at Varneys, it was an "Instant Classic."

Yeah. The Newman block punt return for a TD certainly ranks as the loudest moment I can recall. Lots of hate was in KSU Stadium that day.
