Title: Gimmick scheduling
Post by: Ghost of Stan Parrish on June 10, 2014, 01:38:33 PM
If I were AD... I'd be all over gimmick scheduling.

One thing I'd do is make a nonconference schedule of all the DI teams it's been the longest since KSU has last played:

Evansville Aces (KSU hasn't played them 1939)
Villanova (1940)
Seton Hall (1940)
UC-Santa Clara (1948)
Canisius (1949)
Ohio State (1951)
Yale (1952)
Loyola Marymount (1955)
Drake (1956)
Seattle (1958)
Air Force (1963)
South Dakota State (1963)
UCLA (1964)

That looks fine, so the next year I'd keep going:
St. John's (1965)
Maryland (1965)
Stanford (1965)
Penn State (1966)
Cincinnati (1968)
Indiana State (1969)
St. Francis (1970)
New Mexico State (1970)
Pacific (1971)
Eastern Kentucky (1972)
La-Lafayette (1973)
Montana State (1974)
Hofstra (1974)

Looks okay, but maybe not in that order...

Another year maybe I'd schecdule only teams we've never played before.  Or only schools that are older than KSU.  It would always something!

And in football, we'd totally be playing the wildcat noncon trifecta one year (Kentucky, Northwestern, Arizona).

Anyway, that's what I'd do.  And don't try to tell me I wouldn't.

We should have a rivalry with Kent State, and a trophy called the KSU Trophy

YES!  Fantastic.  Or maybe the Nixon Trophy since he came and spoke here after the Kent State shootings.

We should schedule a game every year outside on an aircraft carrier to open the season, but instead of an aircraft carrier, build a court on a runway at Ft. Riley.

In a big hanger.

Schedule a slow pitch softball game, football vs. basketball teams. Play it in the baseball stadium, money goes to charity for fight heart disease.

Play non con home and away series (1 for 1) with lowly Texas schools in football, who we would normally never give road games to, so that we play at least one extra game in Texas every year for recruits families.

You know how San Antonio's arena was way hot for Game 1 of the Finals? I want to bring that home court advantage to Manhattan Kansas. We make the OOD as cold as humanly possibly. I'm talking like the inside of a walk in refrigerator cold. And we'd be adjusted to it, and other teams would be freezing.

Can't you hear the echoing music of the Army band in your head already?  Brilliant.  (And patriotic.)

Everyone gets a sweatshirt that says "FREEZE OUT" on the front, with a big powercat on the back.

Bob Chipman, Wildcat legend, agrees!  (Funny thing would be when their little arenas are packed with KSU FANS!)

This is a great idea. Would I go to a KSU vs. Emporia exhibition in Manhattan? Nope. At Emporia? Yep.

The AD office should publicly state our desire for games/venues that are unlikely to happen, but fun to think about, and make them like "challenges."

"Kansas State University challenges Duke to a basketball game played at Pearl Harbor on Pearl Harbor Day!"

I'd just put an ad in that craigslist missed connections type place for scheduling asking a team to find me a great schedule and do all the work in exchange for my team plays at their place with no return game. someone post the link to that place.

This is the type of outside-the-box/pushing-the-envelope type thinking that made this country great in the first place!

What about for our exhibition games we make it where we have to play with only 4 players if we get up by more than 8? So then if the lead is cut back to 6, we get our 5th guy back out there.

also, not scheduling but for our exhibitions, every point scored counts as an aggregate of the other team's points at the time of the ball being scored

example-  the score is 19-24 ksu up by 5 over duke at pearl harbor.  duke scores a bucket, is awarded 24 points, duke now up 43-24 over cats.  cats get a breakaway dunk by Westicles, cats awarded 43 pts, now up 67-43.

at the end of the game, both teams spin a wheel to see which one cooks the other team a post-game meal.  meal must include favorite foods of each teams' DOBO.

SURE, but let's give the winner a better chance of not cooking.  The wheel has twice as many chances that the losing team has to cook.  (Unless the winning team likes to cook meals together -- twist!)

Though I'm not sure those sticklers at the NCAA would count these games.

All of our regular season games should have an exhibition game pairing our other champions against the other school. Example: Our Soil Judging Team vs your Soil Judging Team.

Gonna win 'em all!

Got killed in 1987 by Army 45-10 or something awful when Parish was coach

Instead of deciding to get their crap together and prepare their team for solid nonconference play, this coaching staff would prefer to take the easy way out and ease into the season like an old man into a #hotbathtub

It wasn't so much that we're better than TCU, it's that both teams suck ass and nobody should be able to watch either game.

I don't think they suck ass. Kyan Anderson is back and they have very good transfers, like Trey Zeigler making an impact. I've seen them play twice and they will absolutely beat more than one tournament team when conference play starts.
