Hopefully our endzone can look something like that.
Ugh, and this is one of the have not schools in the league.
we better keep up
Crazy they just put 8 mil into the old Vanier.
:kstategrad:
Next step for Iowa State is get lots of super rich alumni
:kstategrad:
I feel like they have more super rich people.
:kstategrad:
you need the big donation to start things and we just don't have those types of people.
:kstategrad:
We may not have KState money, but we're holding our own...
:kstategrad:
Bonus ISU responses to an NDSU guy chiming in...
We play in a real conference, and we've beaten the #2 team in the nation.
I'm saying that NDSUs only claim to fame is beating KSU once. We've beaten Texas at Texas and the #2 team in the nation at home. Along with a ton more that I'm not going to list.
-
well yeah j-von. who doesnt want to be kstate?
-
so people all over the country know we have a lot of rich alumni huh
-
Can't really argue with any of that.
-
if anything, iowa state fans are at least rational.
-
they're so iowa statey.
i'm sure they're nice people though.
-

secret is out

 those comments are gems

the best - "We've beaten Texas at Texas and the #2 team in the nation at home. Along with a ton more that I'm not going to list."
serious question - would it have been worse to lose to NDSU or ISU?

NDSU was a lot better than ISU was last year.

NDSU was a lot better than ISU was last year.
yeah, that's what I was thinking.

Every time I read a thread over there or have contact with an Iowa State fan, I just come away more confused. They seem to have a culture all their own. I may approach the K-State research department about spending a year in Ames just studying them and writing about them. Of course I'd have to gain their trust first but they seem like nice enough people.

They really don't fit in culturally with the rest of the Big 12.

KState was one of my most memorable road trips ever. Great people amongst the student tailgate & aggieville. Jack Trice is nothing special, and the town of Ames is horrible.
Ill try to make it one of these times when Texas comes to town. Your stadium is jawdropping. One of the nicest in the country.

Haha. No. Our stadium is not one of the nicest in the country. Not even one of the nicest in our conference. This is changing, quickly, but currently...
Not sure if serious.

Wait, ISU has received many large donations from wealthy alums recently. I seem to remember one announced a few months back. You guys are acting like we haven't invested ~$75 million in football facilities in the last 10 years. KSU is just doing theirs in a more condensed time frame. After our SEZ project, that's $135 million + in football facility upgrades.
Not to mention the Sukup basketball facility, the new Cyclone Sports Complex, the golf performance center, all funded with healthy donations. We may not have KState money, but we're holding our own...

UT
OSU
OU
BU 2.0
KSU, TT, TCU
WVU
ISU
KU
-
after all phases we might get into the BU-OSU tier but probably not even then
-
I thought corn prices went thru the roof last fall. Maybe pork bellies not so much?

dkr and ou stadiums both suck crap. osu is new but done crappily, like he hired me and my buddies for $5/hr and said build this.
-
UT's gray hair atmosphere sucks the fun out of game days.
-
Ranking stadiums is pretty subjective. Is size or quality/fan amenities more important? No matter how you rank it, pretty safe to say that TT, WVU, ISU, and KU are 7, 8, 9, and 10.
Texas and OSU are probably tops. New BU and TCU are probably next. Really nice but smallish. KSU will hover around there, too. Not sure where to put OU. It's big but just a big craphole.
-
Not sure about the finishes and stuff, but the setting at BU!
They'll have the best setting in the conference for sure when finished.

TCU doesnt do much for me for a B12 stadium. Theyre still the roaches and had their 15 minutes of fame. BU 2.0 is a toilet seat right off the Brazos. plus its in Waco.
Austin is gonna Austin so thats #1 with a bullet. I honestly loved your guys's stadium. Super clean, and with the new addition(s), itll be right up there under UT. Looking forward to a return trip.

lol wat?
-
I would say it's
1. KSU
2. Texas
3. OU, but only if nobody dies. It's last whenever that happens.
4. OSU
5. Tech
6. WVU
7. TCU
8. Baylor
9. ISU
10. Kansas

Prolly should get fat, too. Just to really seal the deal.

After all phases are completed:
UT
KSU
Baylor
OU
TCU
OSU
TTU
WVU
ISU
KU
-
That sweet, sweet "k state money"
-
I think NDSU Lollypop kid gets it more than most of you guys. I mean, yeah, Baylor has nice facilities. The thing is, nobody shows up to their games, so who gives a crap? Same with TCU. Tech gets blasted by sand storms like twice per week. WVU is full of stupid hillbillies, but at least you can go there and have a hillbilly good time. Austin is also great. We are K-State, though. Texas wants us, and Ames wants to be us.
-
I don't know how anyone could complain about the NEZ, even in its current state, and then rank OSU in the top 3 or 4 stadiums. I mean they have a goddamned massive brickwall for an end zone, it's not even made to look like something cool, it's just a massive brick wall. I couldn't imagine the number of kittens shat if we had a brick wall where the NEZ currently sits. Some of you need to be proud of who you are and stop with the self-hating inferiority complex.

I've been advocating for a giant Wall of Death in the north endzone for sometime now actually. Imagine the noise, MIR. Imagine it!

We are about to get a gigantic building of death with death suites for stud cats to party in. Where we're going, we don't need walls, dlew.

I want the wall 40 stories high.

I want the wall 40 stories high.
I'd call it Storm's End on the Prairie

With the bowl completely enclosing BSFS the opposing teams will be on total lockdown. There's no escaping the Prison on the Prarie.

I just imagine extra points going thru the uprights and the ball smacking against the wall. Would be really awkward. I'm in.
-
Given the disaster that the football season was, I'm pretty surprised ISU is getting any sort of an expansion/renovation right now. If ISU can have a $60mil project after a 3-9 season, I'm fairly content for now.

How much?
Is HNTB the "Always Save" brand of Sports Architecture?
-
HNTB is from KC. Fits with the title of this thread
-
Looks pretty cool Havs. You're only a pressbox and fixing that really awkward NEZ videoboard away from having a solid stadium. The University Boulevard shot isn't showing a levy so you might need to jump on that.
-
First pic is crop circle inspired.
-
And now Iowa State is lapping KU
-
How much?
$60mil
-
how they could do anything other than fix that pressbox is just very Iowa-ey
-
Looks nice, Havs.

Never. Jack Trice and Husky Stadium in Seattle are Sister Stadiums and we will never keep the water away.

Iowa State is really capitalizing on the momentum of hiring Mark Mangino.

Its a grassy hill with temporary bleachers behind the endzone... its gawd awful. It is far worse than a track. This has been priority #1 for over a decade.
Iowa State currently ranks #9 in the conference in number of club seats and luxury boxes; they are mostly located in between the two seating decks with a few in the small pressbox. This will be the next project if momentum can continue. Paul needs to win now... plain and simple.

Red and yellow trees
-
Just realized this plan adds 3,000 "Club" seats, to which extent of "luxury" they could be in an endzone is beyond me, but very interesting nonetheless.

when I went to Ames for the 2012 game I was very impressed by how clean the stadium/concourse was. I also thought the concourse was asthetically very pleasing.

I'm sure this new ISU addition makes Paul proud.

That was the first $60 mil project which took place in 2007-2008 which added suites between the upper and lower decks and expanded concourses outwards.
Add in the previous $5mil scoreboard, $20 mil practice facility, this new $60 mil project, and "Iowa State money" may even become a thing!

'grats Havs. i've always said that this world is made up of two types of athletic depts: the talkers, and the doers. glad to see that isu is a doer. just like the ksu cats and ou and texas. okie light doesn't count, they were forced by tbp to do their upgrade.

I'm not sure what was a bigger shot fired. Saying that a track is horrible, or that a grassy hill with temporary bleachers is worse. I mean, he could have been describing "the setting" perfectly.

Good for them.
I had never noticed how shitty their current south endzone is.

Shots fired? Jack Trice had no permanent endzone seats... something KU has had for almost a century. Iowa State has had a disaster of a football facility since virtually forever and now over a hundred million dollars have/will be spent between 2007 and 2015 to make it even somewhat respectable, despite having little successes scattered amongst complete crap. K-State really needs to step up their game if we are comparing ISU success/facility upgrades compared to KSU success/facility upgrades over the past decade. It makes John Currie, K-State administration, and boosters look pretty cheap and unable to raise money like Jamie Pollard can given the results on the field.

But the first row of KU's permanent endzone bowl seating is like 50 yards from the endzone. FWIW, I'd much rather have Jack Trice for my school than KU's memorial.

I've never heard anyone make fun of ISU for their south endzone (honestly couldn't tell you what it looks like currently). However I've heard just about everyone make fun of their pressbox and endzone with the video board on stilts.
SHOTS FIRED!!! Better hope Beems isn't setting back on this one.
I doubt KU sits around much longer while ISU and KSU have these renovations underway. They'll probably make changes soon as well.

They are spending millions of dollars to build a building to house the original rules of basketball and build dorms for their basketball players.

KU was just waiting until ISU released their plans, so they could build something EVEN BETTER!

'grats Havs. i've always said that this world is made up of two types of athletic depts: the talkers, and the doers. glad to see that isu is a doer. just like the ksu cats and ou and texas. okie light doesn't count, they were forced by tbp to do their upgrade.
Trying to figure out where this ranks in the list of ISU being doers: 1) First digital computer; 2) Enriching uranium for the Manhattan Project.

isu could ignore their stadium for the next 25 years and it would still be miles ahead of memorial stadium. when i say ignore, i mean, drop nuclear bombs on it 1x per day for 25 years. it would still be better than memorial, even if ISU fans had radiation and fallout in their hair, eff me running, i'm saying it- calling my shot- irradiated/fallout covered ISU > Memorial.

Given the disaster that the football season was, I'm pretty surprised ISU is getting any sort of an expansion/renovation right now. If ISU can have a $60mil project after a 3-9 season, I'm fairly content for now.

Havs I would trade some of our seats now for more suites. Currie nailed it with WSC. All the new amenities that come with the Loge and Club level will keep the WSC booked for the foreseeable future. Fireplaces, couches, buffet lines (Call Hall ice cream ), alcohol bars, etc. It's what many fans desire in order to justify traveling to 7 games a year. Stadiums that are emphasizing more seats and no suites are essentially throwing away their money. Most new seats that are added are nose-bleed, shitty endzone-type location where seat prices are significantly lower. Plus new suites can provide event spacing for other stuff too which can be (small) revenue generating. Sounds like your fellow fans are not good business minded people like yourself.

Hence, why I'm glad (as it was posted earlier in this thread) that ISU is becoming a Have instead of a Have-Not.
You have a fanbase that is happy going 4-8 as long as you try hard. You will never be anything more than a "have-not"

I've been spending all day on CycloneFanatic and there are fans there claiming suites aren't necessary.
Please tell me you at least had 1 or 2 losers who made stupid comments like that too... Please... Please...
:shooturmouth:
If there is one thing I've learned it's to never underestimate the idiocy of our fan base. I'm sure there is a group somewhere that would like to play games at East Stadium. But honestly, every school has dumbass fans.

That south end zone...does it have indoor plumbing? What do people do when they get hungry or thirsty? Are they encouraged to bring emergency rations?
-
Speaking of plumbing, our NEZ stands have neither concessions nor bathrooms. Just a bunch of portapotties and a mobile hotdog stand. Until last year our west side shitters had shower curtains for doors. We've got a 60" tube tv strapped to Vanier with tension straps.
I mean, we're moving up, but let's not cast stones here.

Yea, like there's still people that would rather have a flip phone over a smart phone.
Turns out that was just an urban legend.

That's not true. NEZers have access to section 1 therefore access to the west side concourse. This was the case before the WSC anyway.

Like I said the nez has no bathrooms. Or concessions.

They still let us go up that way, FWIW.

i hadn't realized that NDSU was playing in ames this season., that's only like 3 months then football
Jerk. Don't remind me.
Don't the bizon lose something like 15-16 starters? Surely, ISU has enuff "real D-1" players to at least squeak out a win against a rebuilding D-2 program...
:dunno:

suites aren't necessary if you don't have fans big shotty enough to buy suites.
I'm sure they have plenty of people who want to be a big fish in their small pond.

Doesn't NDSU have a new coach? I think this is Paul's 2014 "I'm so proud" moment.

Let's let Havs and his friends enjoy their new digs, they deserve to watch Paul Rhoads win 3-4 games per year for the next decade. Honestly, is there a more overrated coach than Rhoads? Just because you yell and get emotional doesn't mean you can recruit or coach. Iowa State and Missouri should both just join the Gateway Conference.

Havs deserves good things because he is a good person. Iowa State fans deserve Rhoads because most of them are losery idiots. Havs is not most Iowa State fans.

Don't really know why we're arguing about the NEZ shitters. Just saying that our NEZ is similar to ISU's SEZ in that neither have concessions or restrooms. Yes, fans do have access to the concessions/restrooms in other parts of the stadium, but without a connected concourse at the top of the section (i.e. sections 9-20), it's likely much more inconvenient (I don't personally know because my seats are elite). Maybe some view it as inconvenient to have to exit the stadium, walk up and around a hill, and then reenter the stadium to take a piss or buy a dog. That's just me.
Likely, this is why the AD made it such a big priority to connect the NEZ to the rest of the stadium via 360 concourse.
-
Sure does stroke my ego knowing that I have a goEMAW referendum solely based upon what great things I do or do not deserve. :gocho:

All good points, just pointing out that our NEZ stitch isn't like ISUs SEZ stitch at all. They don't have access to the rest of their stadium and concourse it's a deserted island within their stadium.

I've been in the NEZ seats once. You just walk over to the west side bleachers and go up to use the restrooms/concessions. It's not that bad. You don't have to exit and reenter the stadium or anything.

Jacqueline Comito is so perfectly rough ridin' awful.

Is she really the lead singer in a band?

Lady at 1:58 looks like she is being held hostage.

I bet a shitload of people move to Ames now

So the girl at the 1:12 mark's only accomplishment is that she's from Brooklyn?

Looks like NDSU & KState draw ISU @ 11 AM games on FS1 in consecutive weeks.
Sucks for KState though when NDSU fans drink Ames dry after the NDSU win.

I think he's the biggest reason Proud Paul got fired. Not offering Jake Waters was simply unconscionable, he would have been good for another two wins a season.

I'm going to need some further analysis here. It's still not clear whether Iowa State actually offered Jake Waters.
When Jake Waters was a standout quarterback at Iowa Western, he would have considered Iowa State.
The trouble was, the Cyclones weren't considering him.
