I'm so excited, you guys. I've heard rumblings he is a gentle giant who loves books almost as much as he loves dominating pud offensive linemen. 4.0 in high school who turned down Cornell because he's so EMAW? National champion wrestler? 330 pounds and not even 6-feet tall? Basically Fatafehi Jr.? :love:

I've been driving the GearBear bus for a long time. Here's some selective quoting from April of 2013, when I was concerned that his national championship in wrestling would cause him to go to Cornell:
I remember reading when we got Britz that people were pretty excited about Britz's wrestling prowess and how that would help Mo's Marauders...but Geary puts Britz to shame on the mat. He's the best heavy to come out of Kansas since at least the early/mid 90s, maybe ever.
I'll leave it to 'Hatter to comment on Geary's hips, motor, and derriere on the gridiron, but I would bet a KatPAK that he would have turned into a real stud. He's a real "get," if you know what I mean.

Not a dye job either, I believe it is just the photo. Has light brown hair (not quite blonde, but not normal brown).
Has had some acne issues over the years, hence the complexion.
Have some super awesome insider-y info on Big Will, but cannot post for I fear that LHC Bill Snyder's will do me in if it appears on the internets. You know other program's staffs read this board looking for super insights as they game plan to face the 'Cats. Heck, by just noting I have info might be enough to get a preemptive hit (the game and movie "Hitman" are a thinly veiled biographic look at LHC Bill Snyder's hobby career).

All this talk about the GearBear in the past few days led me to go searching for GearBear highlights on the web. I watched a few of his high school wrestling matches, and they are pretty amazing. He is easily the best heavyweight to come out of KS since Jeff Boyle (former Cincinnati Bengal), and might have even been better than Boyle. I mean, the guy just dominated in national quarter- and semifinal matches, which never happens. Usually those matches are pretty even, and The GearBear would have won 100 times out of 100.
Anyway, in those matches, the GearBear just pounds on a guy's head until the dude basically drops to his knees and lets Geary get the takedown. He must be unreal strong. An IRL pal reminded me that Geary's style was eerily similar to Kuma of Tekken 3 fame. While watching GearBear tear through lesser athletes, I also noticed that he had commented on some of the videos. I clicked on his YouTube profile to try to find a copy of his national championship match (still can't find it), and noticed that he had 'liked' a video titled "How to Make and Origami Rose." I mean, how adorable is that? (That's our GearBear!) Therefore, I submit for the approval of the Midnight Society a tertiary nickname for The GearBear: The Origami Rose.
Guys, I really love Will "The GearBear" Geary, aka Kuma, aka The Origami Rose. I'm excited to watch him win the hearts and minds of all KSUCat fans. He may be The One Cat that #1cat has been waiting for.

While watching GearBear tear through lesser athletes, I also noticed that he had commented on some of the videos. I clicked on his YouTube profile to try to find a copy of his national championship match (still can't find it), and noticed that he had 'liked' a video titled "How to Make and Origami Rose." I mean, how adorable is that? (That's our GearBear!) Therefore, I submit for the approval of the Midnight Society a tertiary nickname for The GearBear: The Origami Rose.
Guys, I really love Will "The GearBear" Geary, aka Kuma, aka The Origami Rose. I'm excited to watch him win the hearts and minds of all KSUCat fans. He may be The One Cat that #1cat has been waiting for.
IRL friends of W"TGB"G/K/TOR please feel free to add more adorable stories/nicknames. I'm specifically looking at you, @Winters and @Tatown Townies.
Geary's quickness is amazing for a dude his size. He is also extremely competitive when it comes to athletic competition (otherwise, is rather a mild-mannered kid). It is a huge leg up on most opponents.
As to the bench press video, it was impressive how dedicated he became about lifting by the end of his junior year in high school. Was always training and working out. Good habit to have.

The video that yoEMAW originally watched was a match between The GearBear when he was a junior and Nathan Butler when he was a senior. Butler was a really tough matchup for Geary for a few reasons, namely:
1) Butler was a national finalist that year, so he was no pud. He now wrestles at Stanford. He was and is awesome at wrestling.
2) Butler was also a three-time state champ in KS, which is hard to do--especially at big weights.
3) Butler is really tall--The Origami Rose likes to go Kuma-style and bash on a dude's head to set up his takedowns. Since GearBear isn't super tall he had a hard time using his go-to set-up against Butler. (Tip: being short and crazy strong is a great attribute to have if you are an adorable stud defensive tackle.)
And I didn't expect yoEMAW to notice this because he is a garbage poster and human being, but Butler's takedown near the end of the match was definitely something he had been saving all three periods (maybe all season) to use on Our Bear. It was his ace in the hole. He gets that takedown on The Origami Rose once, in that match, and I bet The GearBear would never give it up again, ever. If those two homegrown Kansas studs wrestled each other 100 times, I bet GearBear wins 50 of them. Plus, if I was betting all the farms I've won betting on the KSU Cats, I'd take senior Will Geary over senior Nathan Butler.

Here you see The GearBear just straight GearBearing on a dude in the national finals. This guy was a state champ in New York, traditionally one of the best wrestling states in the country, and like Butler he was tall and throw-ey. Clearly, the GearBear learned from his defeat and turned this chump from stud to pud.

Well now he shows up. This all could have been avoided if you had just posted the damn links when I asked, WonderMeal. Instead you forced me on a deep web odyssey through the bowels of the online wrasslin world alone and afraid. No big deal tho. I've learned more about wrasslin ITT than that time I stayed up all night watching an ultimate warrior greatest hits vhs back in the 4th grade.
So our guy isn't undefeated. BFD, none of them are. I may not have seen his name at the top of the score board at the end of the match, but what I did see was inspiring. I saw the way he relentlessly attacked Butler like a rabid bear from start to finish. I saw the way Butler looked like he hit a tree when he tried to tackle the origami rose at the legs. I also saw our guy proudly lead his team through the handshake line and congratulate Butler personally with the sting of defeat still fresh in his mind. I saw a warrior with a heart of gold, and I'm happy to have this fine young man as a part of the family.
I hope there are no hard feelings WonderMeal. And Muldoon...you are one lucky son of a bitch. :cheers:

Will Geary, Kansas State, NT: Another decorated high school wrestler, Geary won two consecutive state wrestling titles in the 285-pound class, and also was the 2013 national champion for the National High School Coaches Association. This guy arrived at K-State as a walk-on and immediately created a buzz inside the program on the scout team, where he more than held his own every day against the Wildcats' All-American center, B.J. Finney. Word is, no one -- including Finney -- could handle the 6 foot, 297-pound Geary. As a redshirt freshman in 2014, he won a starting job and led all Wildcat DTs with 30 tackles. The 20-year-old Geary already cleans 392 pounds to go with a 425 bench and can squat 640 (going to parallel.)
