Title: Aquarium Enthusiasts
Post by: SdK on February 27, 2014, 09:34:46 PM
In August, I had a single betta that I named Alpha :D I now have a 75 gallon aquarium in bedroom. There were many tanks along the way. A five gallon, 10 gallon, another 10 gallon, 40 gallon, and a 29 gallon. I don't even want to know how much of my student loans I have blown on them, but I think I'm finally at the end of the growth cycle.

Currently have 2 Tiger Oscars (Paul and Saul), 1 Blood Parrot Cichlid (Audrey), 1 African Cichlid (Unnamed), 1 Plecostomus (Pleeks), 1 Firemouth Cichlid (Paarthy named for Paarthurnax), 1 Convict Cichlid that is missing one of his fins, (Little Wing/L-Dub), 1 Jack Dempsey Cichlid, and 2 cory cats and a mystery snail.

O hey, you know what ben ji's dad has purchased over the years? A eff ton of aquariums.

75 gallons is cute....but have you ever seen a Used 500 gallon salt water aquarium(including base/tubes/pumps/etc) arrive at your house? Yeah, high school ben ji came home one day and had to help move in a ginourmous aquarium.

Surely we got to see some awesome salt water fish swim around, right? Nope, it never became operational.

Has since been moved and now resides in the basement, apparently its a good place to keep beehives during the winter.

I killed(non-intentional) a ton of goldfish when I was younger, won them on the putt putt course. Was fun at the time, only like a 2-3 liter tank.

Also, I know it's easy to sign in with facebook with PB, but like everything is linked for you, didn't know if it was intentional or not, just a friendly FYI.

Oh, I'd love to have an aquarium that size. I am just not a homeowner yet.

That sounds super shitty though. This 75 gallon was a beast to carry up 3 flights of stairs. I'd rather move it up 30 stairs than have to move a 500 gallon anywhere.

I killed a bunch of goldfish intentionally by putting them in with my oscar. Then one time I did and I felt bad. So I bought a big (5 inch) goldfish to pay for my sins. Then I can in one day and the head was gone.  :dunno:

I am not really worried about remaining anonymous, but thanks. :)

Aquarium fish are a lot like KU basketball players--many people want to buy and watch them.

On the other hand, aquarium fish are not like KU football players, who nobody wants to buy and watch.

My favorite part is how the rest of the cichlids in the tank are all territorial, but the two oscars and the plecostomus could gaf. They just go do what they do and ignore the crap of out of the rest. Paul, Saul, and Pleeks are studs.

So is my only remaining small fish, a solitary albino cory cat.

Sadly, he passed away when I moved to the aquarium back to my living room. No idea why. I'd be willing to change Saul's name to Dobs if interested.

You should sell it to SD as a bathtub.

That seems kind of mean to Saul. Plus, I would hate to confuse the poor fish.

He's the newest guy to the tank. I'll get a new African Cichlid and name it Dobs. If he dies because you didn't want to change Saul's name, it's on your head!!!!! :D

That's too bad, but 75g is probably not big enough for 2 Oscars.

At their current size it is, but as they get bigger, no. This won't be the tank they live out their lives in. I've researched the crap out of every fish purchase I've made. If I notice issues or distress, I either find a new home or fire up my 29 gallon and put them there.

Saul, the little oscar (5 inches) follows Paul, the big oscar (7 inches) around like crazy. They are inseparable. I think that growing up together will help them as they become adults.

Made a tough call this past weekend. Canary and I took my biggest Oscar to a new home. I had two. He was just way to controlling. If the smaller one does the same when he grows up, he will be moved too. It was kinda sad seeing my longest tenured fish go. _FAN you were right.

Does anyone have interest in a 75 gallon aquarium with everything needed to run it? If anyone is interested, we can discuss specifically what I have. Fish can come with or I can find a home for them.
