Our family dog is Sugar. She's a Yorkie Poo and has been part of the family for seven years. She was supposed to be the litter runt but she's bigger than her poodle mom. Pretty chill little dog.

i hope _FAN posts some pictures of skipper, and this thread is no way meant to harm him. one of the best things with the shaggy thread is the support people get from other dog lovers when their dog moves on, and they share a few snapshots of their life.
plus dogs are just cute.

Ty and Hank. Actually my folks dogs since I don't have my own yet but grew up with them. Ty is getting pretty old, will be sad to see him go.

This is my gal Rory. The shelter we rescued her from found her mother as a pregnant stray, nursed her through birth and then adopted out all the puppies. Pregnant momma was 28 pounds. Rory is 54 pounds :sdeek: :sdeek: :sdeek:.

She's very cuddly and will physically lean into you to cuddle almost 24/7. It used to be kinda annoying but then you just look down and :D

when I was growing up we had a Pom for some reason. someone had some in town that were puppies and just gave it to us. we lived on a cow farm and really weren't inside dog people so this thing should have been really out of place but it wasn't. the thing got sprayed by a skunk about a million times and would roll around in cow poop and whatever other smelly stuff it could find so it got hosed off a lot but didn't seem to mind. it was an awesome dog. was a ridiculous good mouser. we would be out in a field or something doing cow stuff and it would be tagging along and all of a sudden go nuts and dig up a mouse and shake the crap out of it until it was dead and then just move on like nothing awesome just happened. lived a really long time which is surprising given we lost tons of outside cats to owls and coyotes and bobcats or whatever was currently eating/killing cats and it wasn't any larger than a cat.

STUD hunting dog lady totally killed a deer and ate everything except the hide in about 10 minutes then brought the hide back to me
Then she went back to keeping guard for vicious bloodthirsty deer while I fished.

I've always hated poms because every single one I have met was a little crap due to being spoiled 24/7 but I think SD's pom would of been an awesome dog to kick it with.

On Nat Geo I recently watched a program called American Wild. It was titled Stalking the Mountain Lion and featured Casey Anderson, this dude from Montana who has a pet grizzly bear. Anyway his buddy had these two tracking dogs, hounds of sorts. They looked like awesome dogs (a lot like this here pic).

Penguin and mocat's dogs remind me a lot of the 1/2 Border Collie 1/2 Australian Shepherd we had when I was growing up. Miss you Daisy. :cry:

Anyway this program really made me question my
existence in my current form.
i need to watch that. my dogs, redbone coonhounds, were originally bred to make a sure-footed, agile & fearless breed of dog that would corner/tree mountain lions and bears. i know they are really good at treeing squirrels and other small animals and will walk up to the biggest of animals at the dog park. i even had an incident where copper tried to tree a police horse (while the horse was occupied).
on tip of that, they are some of the biggest people lovers out there and arw heart-broken if you keep them away from guests. great dogs, just a little loud at times.

Here are Jessie and Pepper. Both rescues, Jessie is believed to be a Rot and Retriever mix, Pepper is believed to be a Shepard and Lab mix. Both are total cuddlebugs but like to bark a lot.

Mom had surgery on her eye two weeks ago and lost her step brother this weekend to cancer. Buddy laid in bed with mom and cuddled with her these last two weeks to get her through the hard times. He's a stud dude, when he's not :dubious: you. :D

And from a long ways away if you're calling your dog named Bode or Cisco or something it might now sound so clear. I like one-syllable names like Sage, Ike, Doc, Duke, Skip, Luke, etc. But none of those are as good as a Rocko, IMO. :cry:

Yes...she is very self conscious about those things. However, once she gets her bowl of food she really doesn't care anymore.

My house is actually cleaner now than before I got lady but that's only because the white dog hair is really visibile and it forces me to clean more often.
But yeah, eff cats and their dam hair that gets everwhere. If lady wasn't super besties with baby I would have a cat free house.

When I was post-grad bachelor I let the dogs shack up most of the time. Married and refined Emo doesn't even let them upstairs. When we have kid(s) I'll let one sleep in front of their door or even in their room if they get scared of the boogey man or something.

I don't let lady get on the bed or couch due to her hair getting everywhere...but she finds ways around it.
If I fall asleep on the couch and leave my bedroom door open I'll wake up to find her sleeping on my bed...When I sleep in my bed sometimes I'll go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and find her sleeping on the couch :shakesfist:

Cats can be pretty great, especially when they get mad at rambunctious dogs. My cat is awesome and usually goes outside to use the restroom.
Sometimes I think it would be fun to strap a Gopro or something to my cat when he goes out on his adventures. Sure, there would definitely be a lot of laying around and napping, but I bet he gets into some pretty fun mischief.
Anyway, back to dogs. Keep 'em coming.

Ya guys no disrespect towards cats. I mean I called them gross, but I think I meant to say they're gross if they are forced to crap inside, and most of them are. Really it's the cat owners that are gross. Anyway I like cats, too. Like I'm not one of these people that loves dogs so much that I must hate cats. I'm a big believer in abundance, especially when it comes to love. Really the only way I get grossed out is if I come into a house and they have like dogs and cats and birds and a ferret and mice and hamsters and it's like holy crap this is a rough ridin' zoo.

Yeah. Their son committed suicide, and it was his dog. :frown: He was in my HS grad class.

when i take mine to my friend's house, his 2yr old always wants to hold her leash and walk her around outside, which goes pretty good usually considering the dog is twice her weight. sometimes she gets jerked forward and falls on her face and laughs her head off thinking it's the coolest thing in the world. kids are so weird.

when I was growing up we had a Pom for some reason. someone had some in town that were puppies and just gave it to us. we lived on a cow farm and really weren't inside dog people so this thing should have been really out of place but it wasn't. the thing got sprayed by a skunk about a million times and would roll around in cow poop and whatever other smelly stuff it could find so it got hosed off a lot but didn't seem to mind. it was an awesome dog. was a ridiculous good mouser. we would be out in a field or something doing cow stuff and it would be tagging along and all of a sudden go nuts and dig up a mouse and shake the crap out of it until it was dead and then just move on like nothing awesome just happened. lived a really long time which is surprising given we lost tons of outside cats to owls and coyotes and bobcats or whatever was currently eating/killing cats and it wasn't any larger than a cat.
I've always hated poms because every single one I have met was a little crap due to being spoiled 24/7 but I think SD's pom would of been an awesome dog to kick it with.
We never spoiled Kip. In fact when mom was living in the country, due to the horses and Kip's desire to roll around, we kept him with a very short hair cut. She lets him grow it out in the winter. Anyway, here is one of kips favorite games:

This is my squawk roommate's dog Mace. Shelter dog, pretty sure he is a pit / lab mix. Definitely was abused as a pup. This is what he does for roughly 22 hours a day. The rest of the time he is slamming against the window barking furiously at anyone walking along the street or approaching the door. He also jumps repeatedly about 5 feet in the air when he is about to go outside or get food.

He's been pretty good so far with us around him all weekend. Only had a couple accidents inside and was really good about doing his business outside when we took him out to go. Has been prety daring so far and hasn't realy been afraid of anything like stairs or jumping off couches etc. Getting him trained for the kennel is going to be tough though. Didn't want to go in it last night so he got to sleep on the bed again. Today we sectioned off a portion of the wood floored dining room and put his kennel in there as the only comfortable soft spot to sleep. Put puppy pads in the corners of the room so he could do his business there. Any advice on getting him to like/use the kennel? He was only 7 weeks on Saturday so he's still really young and we know it will take time, but he has been pretty smart so far.

Good idea bout keeping the kennel inside to help ollie get used to it. I kept lady's kennel in the kitchen for the first couple of months and it worked great.
Another tid bit of advice- If you dont want ollie getting on furniture later in life start training her now....I used to let lady on the bed/couch when she was a pup until I realized that dogs are dirty and get hair everywhere.
She's pretty good about staying off furniture now but she likes to play a game sometimes....If I fall asleep on the couch she will go into my bedroom and sleep on my bed....if I fall asleep in my bed she will go to the couch and sleep there...The only time I catch her sleeping on the couch is in the middle of the night when I get up to go to the bathroom, she knows she's BUSTED if I catch her on the couch so she will typically get off before I wake up.....I can always tell though, white hair everywhere.

I usually let the puppies sleep in their crate next to my bed until they are old enough to hold it all night. If they are close they don't freak out, and if they need to go they whine and wake you up and you let them out. Once their sleeping all night I transition to them sleeping in another room. The first few nights are hard because they just go batshit all night so I basically just put the crate in my car and let them bark it out. After a few nights they get it. Then you can start training them to "kennel." By then they should love it, feel like a safe place, etc. Also, if they do something bad I'll get mad and if they can beat me to their kennel then they are safe. They learn to love it anymore. It's a sanctuary.

She's believed to be full-blooded lab. It's a very interesting story. Her mother was dumped around Christmas time and turned out to be pregnant... Mama dog appears to be 100% lab and the vet believes that she was bred by a full-blooded lab.

Katdaddy is right though. Dobermans are known to have hip problems. Candy had really bad arthritis and got to the point where she could barely walk.
I'm sure this is illegal, but if anyone has a dog taking Rimadyl let me know and I will send you some. It is pretty expensive and such a waste to throw it away.

Very sad day for me. Our vet will be euthanizing my dog, Tilda, this afternoon. She is 9 yrs old and has recently become so aggressive that we are afraid for our kids to be around her. Our other dog, Blossom, who is 4 even stands between Tilda and my kids. She knows something is wrong with Tilda, too. :cry:

Why can't we do this to old folks that have outlived their usefulness. Like for example, "Hey doc. grandpa has been bed ridden for the past month; could you come down and put him to sleep. It would put him out of his misery and I don't have time to spend taking care of him anymore.".

you posted pics 5 days ago or so, right? so you've had it at least that long? it should not be sad about being in a new place after so long.
it sounds sick. extremely lethargic is not normal and could be bad. i'd get it to a vet, asap. if it's parvo, you want to catch it fast. how is its crap? is it dehydrated (google how to check and then check).

She had all of her shots. And is on worm meds. If she is like this tomorrow, I'll take her in. I work in an hour and just woke up a bit ago. Funds for a vet are a different story. It's the house dog and I don't independently have the money to foot a bill.

They all wear clothes. Most are small. Lots of shibas (of course) and dachshunds, and other mini sized dogs. There is a guy in our 'hood with a massive Bernese mountain dog named Moses (after the Bible because his relatives were Christian but not him).
Also there are lots of people that push their dogs around in strollers.

Not sure if this is the thread for it but I had to put my first dog to sleep today, Dexter. I named him when I was 6 after the show Dexter's Laboratory. He had to wear diapers and was always nervous and pooped all over the place but I loved that dog so much so here's a funny little picture of him. They look like pit mix litter mates. Very cute. We adopted a similar pair about a year ago and they're generally very playful with each other and great dogs. However, they would suddenly fight each other at seemingly random times. It took some observation to learn their triggers and signs of impending aggression and we're very cautious to avoid those situations. They will resource guard and get aggressive when the other comes close to their resource, i.e. crumbs on the kitchen floor, bed, chew toys. Litter mates, regardless of breed, are known to get aggressive toward each other for this very reason.

Otis is a great dog name. My parents waited about 6-7 years between dogs after the last of a group died off, but are happy to have a puppy now

She enjoys harrassing/playing with Lady. Sometimes they get all growl growl at each other but at the end of the day they usually sleep on the same dog bed.
Here they are at the farm after a tough day of running around chasing rabbits/birds, just lived the dog dream life for a day. Surprisingly Milo is already smart enough to know that chewing on the random collections of cables/cords behind her would be a bad idea. Just a natural at staying alive!

Not really. Getting her here was the hard part. The only thing is you have to register the dog with the city and then there are annual mandatory rabies vaccinations. You get a postcard in the mail to tell you when the vaccination event is in your area.
Our whole neighborhood all takes their dogs to the swimming pool parking lot on the same day to line up to get a vaccination from the government.

generally, yes. she is a 50lb pit. luckily there is no breed stigma here, but all the housing agents made a big deal about her size.
most dogs are toy or teacup size up to shibas (mean median mode is shiba)
we live in a neighborhood with larger houses and with small yards, so there are quite a few bigger dogs around here. there are a couple big goldens we see regularly and there is a house that has 3 enormous berneses.

We brought her over. I think I wrote about it somewhere on here. About a billion hoops at least. Mostly just rabies shots, favn/titer test, 6 month waiting period, a steel velociraptor crate, and money.
It's alot harder now compared to then though. Airlines will only ship pets cargo for a 3rd party shipping company.
