Title: Did they record Bob Davis radio today?
Post by: #LIFE on January 19, 2014, 12:45:31 AM

Listened to him on the way home from our game today.  Started crying on air and threw an absolute fit the 1st half today about the refs rough ridin' ku over.  Feel so bad for them, officials always got it in for them every game.

Bob is pure entertainment....especially if Ku is losing.   I can actually listen to him and get a good laugh (even if Ku is playing lights out)

Gurley on the other hand just sucks.  He bitches and moans as if the college BB universe was against Ku.  Somebody get him an extra dozen donuts during the game, so he wont be so damn cranky

I was listening to the KU game in the car yesterday and thought the same thing.

It's truly terrible "journalism," but wonderful entertainment.

Bob gets so pissed at calls that you miss parts of the game with his ongoing bitching and moaning.

Davis is rough ridin' terrible.  Hope he chokes on Self's package and dies.

His calling of Royals games is impossible to listen to   The rough ridin' idiot knows nothing about sports.

Bob Davis is great.  I wish Wyatt was like that sometimes.  Mitch certainly was/is to a certain extent.  But having homer announcers is great.

Bob Davis is the equivalent of George "Bob" Uecker from Major League, if George Uecker's character was supposed to be sad, pathetic and ignorant instead of whitty, cynical and hilarious.

Ku [Klux Klan] fans are generally delusional and irrational about their team so its a perfect fit.

Having a homer is one thing (I do not have a problem with how Wyatt comes across on the radio) but Davis is in a league by himself.  I thought Bob and Max FUCKINGSTEEN were bad but Davis and whoever he is teamed with this week are worse!!  Having Piper do a KSU game on TV is ALMOST as hard to listen to as Dave Armstrong.

I have no idea what any other Big 12 commentator sounds like and I can name only one out of market baseball play-by-play guys.  I watch a ton of Tigers games on MLB.tv and those guys I barely even notice.  The Boston guys are pretty funny too, but not memorable enough for me to remember.  Listed below are super homer studs that have tons of haters on other teams.

The ou radio guys are kinda plain and professional like emaw. Gonzaga was mini ku, and complained about the refs constantly.

Yesterday had to be Bob's best game ever, considering just the content he had to work with. If the phog is any indication, then ku fans are absolutely melting down despite a win.

Despise Nebraska.
But Greg Sharpe is really good. Wish we had him back. He's a good dude, a true EMAW. Greg got caught in the middle of the WIBW fiasco. He did some NCAA games for Westwood One a while back, and enjoyed his calls.

His call of Joe Hall rumbling downfield "get in there baby" is classic.

Agreed. It also made Sharpe part of the "secret" recording of Pelini's off-air trashing of the Nub fanbase. Greg's limited comments on the recording seem to reflect that he really wished he wasn't present for Bo's rant.

Greg will be at NU longer than Bo.

While driving to a cats game this year I succinctly remember Bob describing a holding penalty as a "borderline disaster"  on a 1st and 10 play in the redzone.   I couldn't believe how defeated he was, they still had 3 more downs to go 20 yards.

Bob not giving score updates, sucking air and excited crackling voice over the din of AFH is part of what makes him BITB.  It is nearly impossible to not get in to the game unless it is a complete blowout and they are filling time with stories of JoJo and Danny Manning.

The very definition of competence. Also incredibly boring.

Yeah but what's his face, their PbP guy used to get incredibly butthurt when K-State Football was dominating mu back in the 90's and early 00's.

Bob is also very funny in a droll, "why are we here" kind of way when ku is getting drilled in football, but he's a horrible football PbP guy.

Fun to listen to. Which is great in the TV era, because he's basically inconsequential.

SWEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIISHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bob had an amazing first half. Started with "Iwun-dough", moved on to "Omar",  then said "Southwell" - - and immediately corrected himself with "Spreewell"

Would absolutely love to watch that game with Bob Davis radio dubbed over the video. Someone please make it happen.

Bob is no Max Falkenstein. Not by a long shot. Max never denied being a homer, but he was so much better than Bob can ever hope to be.

Bob would be a great front row'r for us if we could convert him to a KSU fan.  He's already got the booing and official hate down, no learning curve

How many dismayed "oh! they're gonna call it against kyuuuuuuuuu!"s were there? That's always my favorite Bob-ism.

When DJamer was called on that tie up, i was all bummed.  Fran I felt was livid, mentally i was wondering what Bob was saying if he was our homer announcer.

Tough call as to who is the bigger homer, Matt Tait or Bob Davis.   I think I'll with Tait, because everything he does seems like it comes right off the desk of the KU SID/Marketing Office.

Any good Bob stories?  I have heard that he had a meltdown over oscar being "all over the court" and outside of the coaches box.

I thought Self was going to explode on that double dribble no call.

Poor Bob, he has to sit through the debacle of football and so you know he and Greg are all locked and loaded for K-State in hoops, only to now see KU starting to lose regularly in Manhattan.  Gotta be tough on those guys.

Dammit - just read this whole thread thinking it was about last night's game, then last year's players' names started popping up, then I saw my question from last year which is the same as my question for this year: Any good #ohhhhhhhthey'regoingtocallitagainstkuuuuuuuu moments? Because I would really like to have some audio of that.

I actually agree with KBP K-S-U here.
