Inquiring minds would like to know. I say he has had a pretty good gig. Alabama has been a pretty good trade off.
Contracts sitting on desk.... Rumors running rampant. Would he have won 3 of 4 at any other school? Are we fooling ourselves? Is Alabama special?

The only reason I can think of that CNS would let this drag on is the following:
He could be trying to usurp the Auburn momentum and excitement of the BCS title game with a unbridled fear and then the alleviation of those fears that he will in fact be staying at Alabama much to the dismay of Auburn and other teams fans. Making it the bigger story. If that is the reason then I say hats off to a brilliant PR move. If that is the thinking then he will keep the focus on Alabama and not TSDTR.

UTexas is a lesser program. It is not even the best program in their own conference/region (Oklahoma)
I have said it before, UTexas is desperate, and the longer this goes on, the more and longer it will make UTexas look bad. You do not think that other coaches would use it against UTexas in recruiting? "UTexas thinks they have the best program, yet no great coach will even give them a second look. Why should you?"

Texas has money to throw at him, they have facilities as good as anyone in the country or better in many cases, and they cheat like a mother. Is it possible? Yes. Don't kid yourselves. Is it probable? No, just don't see any coach ever leaving the SEC for another job unless you coach at Kentucky.

Saban will NEVER go to Texas, one reason, they are to political and like to run the show, Saban will never go for that. Second reason, he and Mrs Terry have stated they are staying and have no interest in leaving and I believe that. Saban left M State for LSU, went pro because he wanted to try it and hated it. They came back to college and they love it, both have stated this even before coming to Bama. To me that doesnt earn a reputation of always leaving. It is like any other coach at a young age looking for his nitch, and he has found it. Message boards and Alabama/Saban haters can say all they want, but Coach has stated over and over, so has Mrs Terry, they are NOT leaving. I believe him and her. RTR

Not only is the silence deafening from the Alabama athletic offices but on Alabama's message boards. It's sad how behind stories our "insiders" are and how out of touch and in denial our fans are. There was a report on a few other boards an hour ago about a Fort Worth Star Telegram saying Saban to Texas and yet I can't find a single Bama board refuting or even discussing the report. All I see is people acting confident he signs our contract. Where are the Bama insiders with breaking info? Do we not have any? Why are other fansites always breaking news on Alabama but we can't ever get any scoop on our own school?

They already are. The "he owes a lot of boosters money" is just a starting point. It is their way of making the split look like they won. You can see them angling to argue that Texas actually ended up paying them money, in secret of course.

No more CNS -> texas threads / discussions
It seems like we have a new rumor thread about CNS going to texas every other day now - it's a become a huge distraction (and detraction, imo) on the board, not to mention pretty much flies in the face of our 'no rumors' policy. Therefore we've decided that we're not going to allow any more of these threads during the season (unless Saban leaves before the season is over).
To the hand-wringers: CNS has said multiple times, in a variety of ways, that he's happy at Bama, (as is Ms Terry). By all accounts by those who know them this is also the case. By continuing to post these threads it's not only a distraction from a truly special football season, but it's essentially calling our coach a liar.
Who knows what the future holds? Not me. But for now, unless he leaves, we're instituting an indefinite moratorium on CNS rumor threads.

They are really rolling with the "Austin is not any better than Tuscalooser" talking point
There is no doubt in my mind that Mack Brown will soon be forced to resign and that he is just putting on a show for the UT fans right now. I believe Brown wants to "show" the UT fans that he gave it is all until the very end.
I think there is NO (zero) doubt in my mind that Nick Saban is NOT going to Texas. Major factors why I believe Saban will NOT go to Texas....
1. Money is not a factor anymore but more money is always nice. BAMA is going to pony up more money - no doubt about that. The money is just an acknowledgment of his accomplishments relative to others.
2. His age. He's not getting any younger. If he was 52 and not 62 then I think the circumstances might be different.
3. His history of moving - A lot of people who have moved several times in their lives finally get tired of moving. This goes back to age.
4. Legacy - He is leaving his legacy at Alabama. He screws with it by leaving. His legacy doesn't just include football. It includes the state, his impact on the Tuscaloosa local community (Nick's Kids), and the University.
5. His kids/future grandkids are in/at Alabama.
6. He knows what he knows about Alabama. Starting over at Texas, he doesn't know what he doesn't know - "The grass is always greener on top of the septic tank"
7. Because Tuscaloosa IS better than Austin. (I know that's hard for the Texans to believe who have been brainwashed their whole life about Texas and have never lived anywhere but Texas and think Texas is some God's gift to the world, which it is NOT).
8. He and his wife (most recently) have said they are staying at Alabama. Saban has repeatedly said this several times this past year.
I'm sure there are more...

Saying Tuscaloosa is nicer than Austin just makes us look silly. However, as HC at Alabama or Texas, one is not able to "go out on the town" (which is kind of sad if you think about it). Additionally, the countryside AROUND Tuscaloosa is much nicer IMO. Most of Tejas is not pretty IMO.
I doubt USC even contacted Saban...They don't seem like they would be willing to open up the vault.
I base this on what Saban has previously said - "I love it here." Terry Saban has said "We are staying here." They can move to anywhere in the world, including Austin, but they have chosen not to do so. They have chosen to stay in little ole Tuscaloosa rather than going to that "great" city on the hill known as Austin. USC recently inquired of Saban's interest in USC. Is L.A. better than Tuscaloosa? Many would say "yes" - the weather, the ocean, Disney Land, etc., but it wasn't better to the Saban's.
The tears will be sweet...so sweet! I can already see the tidal wave of tears flowing down the Mobile river.
He's denied it until he's blue in the face. People have chosen not to believe him. Texas doesn't want to believe him because they want it to be true. The arrogance of Texas is that Texas thinks because it is Texas, Texas can buy or get whover or whatever it wants. Texas is about to find out that Texas is the legend in its own mind.
Bryant-Denny is a HELL of a lot nicer than that erector set of a stadium that the cow sips have.
What can he say that he has not already said? If he says he is staying and this is a lie then everyone except some BAMA fans will remind the world that he said the same thing before coming to BAMA. If he ignores the subject, then he is talking with Texas about leaving. Poor Texas is so desperate to be relevant again that they fuel every rumor there is about Saban. Maybe his way of dealing with this clutter is to ignore it and just do his job.
I use to think aTm was the state of Texas' Auburn. I am beginning to wonder is Texas is the Auburn of the state of Texas.

He's done far too much for Texas to be shoved out like this. It's not like he's gone 4-7 in back to back years. Their arrogance is going to bite them in the rear. Ask Nebraska, I bet they would take Solich back in a heartbeat. Or, Miami for forcing Coker out.

To give some of you piece of mind, I speculate that the reason the contract has gone unsigned is because Saban has been on the road recruiting and he has no intentions of going anywhere and is in no rush to take the time to look over the new contract and go through the process of renewing the contract. I'm sure it's a procedure that takes several hours and with the dead period approaching every hour counts. I'm certain he is recruiting his tail off and spending every waking hour doing so... just giving some of you some perspective as to why is may not be signed. We have the hardest working coaching staff in the country and haven't gotten to where we are by our coaches sitting in the office hanging out or going duck hunting. i.e.- Tommy Tuberville.

There are insane rumors of TX willing to buy the debt of bad business deals, part ownership in the Longhorn Network, $10M/yr salary, and oil wells with his name on them. I know people in Texas, big money people and they are just that arrogant and stupid to do all this for a football coach. Can Bama match all this? The salary yes although I don't think Bama would or should. Buying the debt? Sure, there are enough big money people in the REC to scrape up a measly $24M clams. There aren't many oil wells in Alabama that I know of so that one is hard to match.
I think it boils down to the simple fact that we all know Nick Saban worships the air Ms Terry breathes. I just don't think given that FACT that he would let his wife be made out to be a liar. We all know he could give two shats what the world thinks about him, but NO MAN wants people to think bad of his wife.
Just something I don't think is being considered here.
First off, What do you think Saban and Mrs Terry felt after a writer from Texas says to the world they are 20 million in debt and texas to the rescue, they are passing a hat around to bail them out? That is simply false, They are not 20 million in debt and loosing everything. That crushed their character and I am sure Saban wasnt thrilled with that. A percentage into nothing will pay them nothing, the LHN is a failure, just isnt what they thought. Lastly, Alabama can match the money, I couldnt care less what texas people believe, but I hate to break it to them, Bama can pay him as well. Mrs Terry and Saban have both Stated within the past few weeks that Saban is happy, content and settled. Mrs Terry said that even his coaches that have came with him have stated how remarkably content and happy he is here at Alabama. Saban said himself, there just isnt greener pastures anywhere, A Mars comment rings a bell. They are happy here, They are not leaving. RTR

I love my state. I travel a lot and have seen a lot of the big cities. They're fun, but give me Birmingham and our bankrupt county, any day of the week. We have our crappy little towns and medium size cities, just like everyone else. We just love our college football a little bit more than others.
Chicago is absolutely awesome, I could live there but love where I am.

Yeah, if Saban leaves Bama of all places, whoever gets him can't feel too comfortable about the long haul. Four years, yeah, but after that who knows. However, I agree with another poster on here that I'm getting tired of the whole thing. If he leaves fine---maybe we will do better in getting a coach who doesn't choke against Auburn...if he stays fine..maybe a couple more national championships mixed in with future Auburn losses. Whatever, I can't wait for next year.

I don't know how to say this without sounding critical but the lack of insider information and objective outlook of the situation on this board is stunning. Everyone talks about how satisfied Saban is and what he has at Alabama but no one ever debates the reason many Texas fans and even some Bama fans are saying he might leave. I assume people here have heard about the debt problems many are saying the Sabans have incurred from a failed Perkins Rowe development in Baton Rouge and an apartment project in Houston as well. The debts are at keast $26 million if not several million more. You guys do realize the rumor is that UT boosters have agreed to pay these debts off if he signs on with Texas don't you? This rumor has been all over the internet and I've even seen Secretary of State records of it and yet Bama fans on all our boards seem completely oblivious to it. I was hoping to get some info here earlier today and asked a question about this and was ignored. I'll ask again, does anyone know anything about Saban's supposed debt and if our boosters are able to match Texas offer in this area.

These hurry up teams with mobile qbs absolutely ravage Saban's defense. Can Saban reinvent himself at this stage of his career? Defense needs a major major overhaul this offseason. He also needs better coaching on offense than he got from cristobal and Nuss this year.
I wonder if this guys Dad thought recruiting players of color was a fad?
Saban's defenses rely on a lot of pre-snap checks. The hurry up doesn't allow that. Instead of complaining about the HUNHO in the offseason, Coach has to scheme to stop it. I have faith in him and believe he's the best coach in America. Coach Bryant made adjustments when the game changed and put Bama back in the driver's seat. I suspect CNS will do the same with his defense. If he doesn't, we will see many more losses over the next few years. We have to adapt until this fad passes. And PLEASE let this just be a fad and not the new normal.

The reason Saban has been wanting the NCAA to change the rules on hurry up/spread offenses is because he can't stop them. I think it's pretty obvious now.
What he needs to do, instead of making excuses about it hurting players etc., is fix the problem. If it means switching our defensive scheme and recruiting lighter players, switch the the scheme and recruit lighter players. LSU has lighter players, runs the 4-3, and does a great job playing against pro and spread offenses. They were just really young this season.
Saban needs to not let his ego get in front of the way, admit that his defense has been defeated, and try to fix the problem.

Lot we did wrong, but they won this game straight up.
We had a great run defensively but at this point it's obvious to me that bigger and slower is not going to work going forward. Offenses just don't play that kind of ball any more and we need to adjust or go the way of the dinasaur. And we need DB's, lots of them. I hope Saban is ready and willing to re-invent his defense
Observations and not criticisms...1st Hats off to OU...you deserved it and outplayed us, outcoached us and won the game. Now, IMHO, Coach is at the same crossroads now as Coach Bryant was in the early 70's...either change and adapt or go down that same road as the late 60's. We know what he did. As has been said, Coach Saban needs to revisit and readjust philosophy to keep up with what is going on around football. If this keeps up, we will continue to lose these types of games. Other teams have caught on.
You know, Paul Bryant ran into this same brick wall one time. We couldn't beat our way out of a wet paper bag. He went to visit Darryl Royal at Texas, learned a few things, brought them home, installed them, and then the next year beat the college football world like a rented mule. What was the idea that he used to revolutionize Alabama football? THE WISHBONE!!! What's the moral of the story? It's time for us to shake things up and change the way we play on both sides of the ball. I have NO idea what that should look like at the moment, but if Nick Saban is 1/4 as brilliant a football man as Paul Bryant was (and make no mistake, he is every bit Bryant's equal), then look for some serious changes to surprise us next year. I should clarify, the SB game against Utah was a physical beat down.
Last night Alabama looked to be very motivated, the Stoops brothers etc. just had a good game plan, and as you said, they didn't allow any Bama momentum to snowball, they answered, and then put the pressure on Bama. If OU's secondary would have done a better job tackling, the game isn't even close.

It doesn't even look like they've adjusted at all, which is very surprising. I'm not sure how anyone stops it other than just outscoring the other team, but one thing that will surely help is them getting a quality pass rusher or two. How they don't have some dominant ends is just beyond me.
OU's qb is a stud. Why he didn't start all season is beyond me. However, I have TOTAL faith in Stoops to eff it all up and screw up at least once or twice a season, even with an incredible looking team.

Kudos to the guys for not dotting her eye like she deserved. Their fans have really been giving it to us. I didn't expect them to act like the have. They are really rubbing it in with as hard as they can. The mutual respect deal was only because they thought that they were going to lose.
