It didn't help that Sams ran the play just like Waters runs it. It was a terrible decision to pitch that ball.
-
I remember when this play used to work a whole bunch.

You mean with Darren and Ell, that's the only time I remember?

hell I don't even remember it working then, but that would be the only time it would've worked. 2 guys that could evade tacklers in a phone booth. but I bet they even rolled their eyes in the huddle. it's classic snyder outscheming himself. such a waste of a down. I'd love to see the numbers on how many plays per game snyder runs that and how many yards it's averaged over his career. I bet it would be hilarious and sad.

Yeah the short side option "working" is it going for about 5 yards.

yup :gocho:
-
I think Nebraska destroyed us a few times running only this play.
-
I like how this play went from being Water's fault to an "impossible play to execute, bill is an idiot for calling it."

You obviously haven't been listening to any KSU Cat fan over the last 20 years if you think we are just now hating this play.

I'm always perplexed why we run that play to the short side of the field. My dad said it had something to do with there being less defenders on that side. He wasn't sure. I'm not convinced. Both of us are LFBIQ.
-
Ell and Darren had some success with it. basically because Ell and Darren were quick enough to get to the edge before the weak side defenders. that's why the coaches love it, they think they have numbers on the short side, the problem is we haven't really had anyone quick enough to exploit it since Ell and Darren. specifically the long TD run for Sproles vs. Nebraska in '02 was a short sider.
-
Not that I love the short side, but there's no reason Sams and Hubert can't be as fast and Ell/Sproles.

yeah. because hubert is sproles' clone. basically the same player.

Rivals lists Hubert as a 4.4, Sproles as 4.5. :dunno:

Your dad is right, but execution is crucial without a lot of space to work with.
Also, a lot of times Snyder simply runs it to keep a defense honest and force them to keep an extra defender to the boundary. At least that would probably be his rationale.

Stop looking at things objectively? No.
Like I said, I'm not a fan of the play. My post was more about disproving the notion that the short side was effective for Ell & Sproles because they could get to the edge quicker than Sams/Hubert, who should be just as fast. I'm saying it's not effective for some other reason.

specifically i meant stop using Rivals 40 times to compare speed

Ok suggest a better measure.

im bored. can anyone find any successful kstate short side options on youtube? I know i've seen some but i'd like to see them again. every one i picture Sproles super juking a guy to make it work.
-
I remember Ell/Sproles had one against USC.
-
just so i know exactly where we're currently at with this discussion, your position is that Hubert is faster than Sproles based on the Rivals high school recruiting profile listed 40 time?

My position is that Sams + Hubert is as fast as Ell + Sproles from the time the ball is snapped till the pitch is made/not made; or that if Ell + Sproles is faster, it's not by any appreciable margin to make the play more successful. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

fair point. imo sproles so quick that it made a difference.

I think it's because Sproles was (at minimum) just as good as Hubert at making people miss and better than him at shedding tackles.

Sproles was better than Hubert at everything, and that's not a knock on Hubert at all.

I think you need to go back and watch youtubes or dvds from 2002-2004 if you think "Sproles was (at minimum) just as good as Hubert at making people miss." The only thing John Hubert comes close to approaching Darren Sproles with is ball security. John Hubert is a ball security freak. This is no slam on Hubert, Sproles is a once in a generation player, comparing Hubert to him is beyond silly.

I don't think you know what "at minimum" means.
