Why are you people?
-
hourly employees at factories
-
Getaway drivers.
What about people who pull through perpendicular parking spots and park instead in the spot in front so they don't have to back out. I do this.
-
good drivers that like showing off.

everyone does this, it'd be crazy not to.

You have a higher chance of collision with the pull-through IMO.

i get bored.

In Austin there are entire streets where its required.

I swear we had this thread like 2 years ago or something.

Can confirm.
Also, watch out for their really exaggerated move where they look like they are going to turn left into a parking spot, but are really just getting it all lined up to pull straight backwards into a spot on the right.
-
People who cross the double line to park in diagonal spots on the other side of the street piss me off way more then people who back into spots.

Only if they are designed like that, like McGee at 17th and probably others in downtown KC
-
i read a really long article analyzing back in drive out parking that made it seem like a good idea.
also i feel like we had a long debate about backing in to parking spaces on here some time in the not so distant past.
-
I read an article that people who back in are more anxious to leave whatever they are going to and people that pull in are more anxious to get there.

Enjoy waiting for them as they take a 10 point turn to get it in the spot.

Easier to park a big truck.

Easier to park a big truck.
Don't buy a big truck if you are too stupid to pull it in nose first like the rest of civilized society.
-
Statistically speaking, most parking lot accidents occur when backing out of parking spots. Backing in allows the driver to pull out forward with a better view/less chance of an accident. It's science.
And yes, some extremely large, safety-obsessed companies make it mandatory for all of their lots.

It's not the pulling in that is the problem, it's the backing out when the idiots next toyou park on the yellow line while you are away
this is why backing in is always a smart move

This...and not just their lots either.

theres a special place in hell for people who pull through parking spots. dont mind backing in as long as someone else isnt waiting to get by...
-
I have a back up camera in my truck..why not use it. Willewatanabe has been spot on this thread too

eff you. People who pull through are smart drivers. Why back into oncoming traffic when you don't need to?

i dont know how traffic works in canada but its definitely more dangerous here in the states. more and more parking lots are going to angled parking to prevent this and also the T collision when backing out.
-
So you were referring to angled over straight initially? Big difference..either way I'm pulling through...then just exit the way I'm supposed to..it's not that difficult...

well, offset parking spots are becoming more of the trend. specifically to prevent pulling through, because its dangerous. the person pulling in doesnt expect a car to appear in the spot theyre whipping into. are you not understanding this? continue to pull through, by all means, im just saying its more dangerous.
i dont design parking lots or roads for a living, but if i did... id make my parking spots look like this-

i would design them so that whoever backs into a spot's vehicle blows the eff up. dunno how much more expensive those are though

well you're going to have to some time either way

Seems like this type of lot would leave wasted space. Good luck getting anybody to hire you to design their lot.

well you're going to have to some time either way
Just go over/around stuff.

I went to high school with a guy who drove a car that didn't have a working reverse gear.

No, denied. Parking lot accidents will immediately drop to zero.

it wastes a few feet on both ends, not enough for a full spot anyways. thats why theyre not offset directly in the middle of the spot but towards 1/3 of the spot. people who design these things must be real thinkers, huh?

supposed to use less energy. because you idle and reverse with an efficient warm engine rather than a gas-guzzling cold engine.
it's mandatory at the site i work (in front of the main building only). not related to above, supposedly for safety.

I don't know how much difference there would be fuel economy but the environmental benefit to being able to pull out of the parking spot and minimize the time car is running at idle before the catalytic converter is heated up could be significant. The majority of pollutants created by modern vehicles occurs when they are first started.

THC, you should look into a career of parking lot and road design. perhaps in your search for a new career you might keep an ear open for any summer internships in that field. for a friend.

 man that's great. i will never understand the sheer hatred that aj has for backward parkers but i respect it.

Did it today after over shooting a spot I had overlooked. Must be a getting old thing.
-
Overshooting a spot is the only time I back in. I'm not going to back up and pull forwards like a total noob
-
I almost had a head-on collision with a lady who was pulling through a parking space to drive off (i.e. she was parked in the stall across) this weekend.
