Went to the Improv tonite to see Ralphie May, and the fat rough rider did NOT disappoint... Have seen a number of other comedians that seem to just recycle the same tired material.
Truly talented, he actually ad-libbed about 90% of the show and spent almost half of it rough ridin' with people in the first several rows of tables.

I saw Ron White at the Midtown in KC several years ago. He was drunk for the entire show.
It was good.
-
I absolutely LOVE open mic standup. Watching people bomb is just... So real or something. It's just great. Plus if you find a good one a lot of them will be good, too.
-
I've always wanted to try open mic night somewhere, however my fear of completely bombing/failing has always been too great...
:embarrassed:
-
I feel like I'm hilarious. Like, just ridiculously hilarious, but not in a stand up comedy sort of way, ya know?
-
My former radical libtard roommate thinks he's a comedian. He went to second city and bombed. He tells Jurassic park jokes and death jokes. It's a must see.

that sounds great if he bombs or not. Hopefully he does a lot of open mics in Louisiana and gets really good! Like anything, it takes practice.

Yeah. Initial filly back in the day use to heckle him back in the day. He did a lot of improv at K-State, but recycled a lot of his jokes. So I guess it really wasn't improv.

Man, I don't know. I forgot already. He loves getting stoned and watching that crap though.

I will now make up a joke completely on the spot:
So I was at the mall the other day shopping for a gift for my wife. I pop my head into Victoria's Secret and ask a gal on the floor "hey I'm looking for something to hold my wife's luscious melons." "Luscious melons?" she says, "I think you need to go down to the smoothie shop."
What does everyone think of that joke?
-
Lol melons! NJ AJ!

read my joke in a mitch hedburg voice and its even better.

I saw a guy three times in a row(he opened for three different headliners that I actually paid to see) and his stuff was the exact same each time and his big build up joke at the end had a punch line of: "Yo quero Taco Bell, Motherfuckers!"
Also, I saw Kevin Nealon(SP) and he was absolutely fantastic. His entire show is off the top of his head. He did a bit where "we are going to start a story" and he would say something like "so you and I got in my car so we could go to the store and you suddenly stopped the car and you said....." and someone would blurt something out of the audience and he would run with it for another two or three sentences until something else was blurted out. He did that for like 15-20 min and it was amazing how on he was. Was very impressed.
Second fave was Damon Wayans(SP). He was incredible. Refused to do any of this In Living Color stuff, but was fantastic.
Both were at the old Sanfords in westport. Small environment. was great.
Also, saw Tracy Morgan there, sat in the front row and he kept joking about us and then started in on my wife and how women need to be more open to certain sex things. Wife was super :horrorsurprise:  but everyone else was
-
I saw Hedberg. All time fave. He was super wired and talked a million miles an hour, but seemed like such a cool, happy dude that everyone wants to be friends with.
-
saw sinbad in st louis back in '96, dude ripped that stage apart. 2nd best was yakov smirnoff - he's a russian dude who came over here a while ago, his delivery was incredible and his jokes are always one level above your head. i consider him more of a thinking man's comedian.

CNS, who was the Taco Bell guy?
Does anybody remember that Daniel Tosh came to K-State in about 2006 and played to a 1/3rds full Forum Hall on a Friday night with insanely terrible weather?

Don't remember, honestly. The second time I saw him, he got half way through hid stuff and hadn't gotten a laugh. Then half way through the next joke, he stopped and sighed and said "aw, eff it" and just sat there for a while quiet before finishing his big taco bell joke with zero heart. Wad sadly hilarious.
-
Wait, so you saw this taco bell guy three times but don't remember his name?
-

You know how you pay to see a comic and show up and there are always like 2 or 3 shitty comics on before them that you never took the time to know who they are and go into it just assuming that you will be bored with mediocrity until the actual headliner gets there? That was him three times.
Update: I just googled "stand up comedian yo quero taco bell [redacted]" and all I got were articles about new Doritos Locos Tacos
-
Also, this all took place like 10 yrs ago.
-
hm... i don't like mitch hedberg at all

When he came out of the piano? Oh man, young SK was blown away. Also, at his wife signing autographs before the show.

Yes. It was awful. It's in the Ron Prince stories thread.

I like some of it. I think Louis CK is very good. Jim Jefferies is also pretty good sometimes. Mostly i don't like watching it on TV. If i'm at a comedy club though getting bombed i'll laugh like a maniac.

went to see J Chris Newberg at S & sons this week. sat very close to the front with mocatGF and mocatParents. JCN asked how we all knew each other and immediately looked at mocatMom and said "you know they're rough ridin' right. yeah they're rough ridin'. she blew him right before they came here" was very  and

Well at least your mom knows now

Saw him in KC last year. He was better than I expected. His russian mafia story is pretty funny which I had heard before, but the rest of his stuff was just decent. I did enjoy several bits in his new netflix special though.
-
I don't care for his stand up nearly as much as I care for his appearances on podcasts where he's just being himself. His demeanor and moreso his laugh has been compared to mine by........lots. Here's a great clip, tagged by how hard he laughs during it.

The quality of this video sucks, but I still love this guy. He left us all too soon.

The HBO One Night Stands were awesome.

Concerts aren't back in NYC but comedy definitely is. Went to the Comedy Cellar at village underground Thursday night. The comics were pretty great and I felt like pre-covid times and then there was a surprise headliner, rough ridin' Louis CK. Put me in a bad mood and he also kind of sucked.
Friday night I went to a rooftop comedy show in Manhattan and I'm telling you it wasn't great. Josh Gondleman was featured but it was a small audience on a roof and the energy just friggin evaporated. But I still had fun!
-
I would be so pissed if I went to the Comedy Cellar and there was a surprise headliner, rough ridin' Louis CK.
Jk, that would be rough ridin' awesome.

me either, (k)rusty. but i never liked him or found him to be funny before he was outed as a sexual deviant

Love the CC. Also love me some Louie CK. That sucks.

Did anyone boo or heckle him?

Did anyone boo or heckle him?
No. Quite a few people were genuinely excited especially since everyone else was basically an unknown but the crowd cooled off quite a bit when he got to the actual material
-

I think the two things are related, since a lot of his material always depicted him as a creep.
That said I always thought his good stuff was better than just about anything else out there. He’s just legitimately a creep.

I think he could have addressed what happened in an intelligent, honest, and self deprecating way. But he hasn't addressed it at all since he started performing again.

This weekend I went into a YouTube hole of comedy roast battles from a NYC club few years ago. It was the first I've ever heard of Dina hashem, but my God she can absolutely destroy at turning the life tragedies of her opponents into very funny and inappropriate jokes.

I was there. It was a pretty annoying night for me. Dave was just so so, and I didn’t enjoy the opening 4 acts…and it’s absurd we had to sit through 4 bad acts. Then the lines were really long to get in and out of the building because they locked up phones and it created a massive bottleneck both ways.
-
If an event is going to lock up phones, there should also be a line at every entrance for people who decide to just leave their phone in their vehicle.

going to not-sports events is outside my realm of experience, but this sounds like such a fantastically bad combination that i can't believe it's not illegal.

More and more sports venues are taking a similar route unless you pay them to mail you paper tickets which is even harder with all the resale b.s. Transfers are digital in my experience.

This, despite the fact that I've been told that unauthorized reproduction of NFL content is punishable by a $1B fine and up to 100 years in prison.

Me and who I went with waited until about 9 to go in, which was a godsend. I can't imagine being there the whole time.
And yeah, the whole phone thing is insane, made the whole process stupid and of course everyone has to go to the first motherfuckers with the unlocker instead of meandering to the back, but people gonna people.
