So it's to keep up with the pace of big 12 play and his main job is to spot the ball for the next play.Whats he gonna do when we have the ball?Help the crowd count down the play clock :dunno: Seems like they are out to harm us
-
He'll monitor substitutions :dunno:
-
Have more time to make targeting calls.
-
Gundy and Kliff are going to Oregon the crap out of ppl now. Will shorten the amt of time in between plays. Could separate the top from the bottom quite a bit unless they also have a rule on a min amt of time btwn snaps, or something.
-
More officials = more penalties = bored CF3
-
Snyder is gonna have to figure out a way to grind another 10 minutes off the clock and hide a few more injuries

Never doubt the Scheme Doctor....

“That was my recommendation, that the eighth official would be somebody who could pay attention to that,” Snyder said. “But now that they’ve got the eighth official involved in initiating the snap quicker -- that’s not what I had recommended.
“That scares me.”

Altering the number of officials on the field seems like it should be an NCAA thing, not a conference thing

Isn't scaring the elderly illegal or something?

Small step toward breaking away from the NCAA :dunno:

Smaller and faster D may be what the doctor orders.

And now we know why Snyder just secured about 800 DB commitments.

They're going to try, but it still takes both offenses some time to line up and check off. I really don't see the one ref making a drastic difference in the pace of the game. If either team throws an incomplete pass, they generally go back to huddle.

Fast paced, hurry up teams are so dorky. Hey let's try to snap the ball super duper fast. Good grief calm down you weirdos.

Several of the hurry up offenses don't care. They are going to run what they run and will read as the play develops. They want the defense out of place and out of sync. They will run all four receivers and check down as they are covered or not. That is pretty much what Tech has done since forever anyway. This will def make a difference. This is why Oregon was so effective last season. No one was ever ready yet they were lined up and hiking the ball. They were fast as hell and never gave anyone a moment to adjust, catch up, or catch their breath.
This is def what some coaches are going to try to do part of the time, if not most of the time.

Wasn't Oregon slower than at least two (maybe three) Big 12 teams last year?

I don't think so, but could be wrong. I thought I remember us getting smoked by Baylor, then seeing that Oregon was like 1 or 2 seconds per play faster than Baylor? :dunno:
-
baylor was faster than oregon. fwiw I re-watched the fiesta bowl a while back and our d really did pretty well.

Yeah, but that number (seconds between plays) is skewed because Oregon stomped the crap out of so many teams. They start to purposely kill the clock late in the blowout games.
