Acceptable? Ever?
-
while traveling for business, i guess
-
just sit at the bar
-
I eat alone on the reg. obviously the bar is preferable but if not it's not that weird.
-
do it while traveling on business, don't think i've ever done it otherwise though
-
I think the moment you can eat alone or go to a movie alone you're now a man.
-
only if you get drunk as crap
-

oh i love going to movies by myself. love it.
-
I eat by myself all the time at quasi fastfood places(Chipolte,mr gyros, goodcents etc), if traveling for business i will eat at the bar by myself at regular sit down places.
Have a friend that will literally never eat anywhere by himself, will call around to everyone to see if anyone wants to go with him and if not will order his food to go and eat it at home.
-
Always acceptable
-
always acceptable, do it all the time. prefer the bar, have no problem taking a table.
eating with people is stupid.
-
I especially like to do it while on business, preferably at high end eating establishments that offer papers like the wall street journal to read. Makes me feel elite... :gocho:
-
I like to BBS, become BFF with the bartender and pound booze while I eat alone
-
ask for a table for two then act like you were stood up and get some sympathy drinks/phone numbers (if you are likeable).
-
I can see where it would be weird if you had no self confidence.
-
I like it.
-
Anyone been approached by a high priced hooker? :sdeek:
-
Will probably grab a beer and dinner at Station tonight, by myself, because I can

interesting
-
mom usually just sets it at the top of the stairs
-
Did this at the hotel bar/restaurant in Rochester, NY last night. I was excited to have some buffalo wings, beer, and watch non-Royals baseball. The Yankees-Mets game was rain delayed, so they switched to the Royals.

Yup! Acceptable and it's also ok for movies too.

I don't like it when a dork sits right next to you at the bar, when many great open seats that aren't adjacent to me are available.
-
Definitely acceptable, especially when dining alone.

Maybe you won't be alone :peek:
-
One thing I like to do when dining alone is order a bottle for the table.
-
If you are still in doubt, it is completely acceptable. Sometimes, when I am really tired, I order room service and 4 or 5 whiskeys and watch a movie- not preferred, but my second option. First option is a nice restaurant on my own and then a bar and grills/dive. Basically, be your own company and have a blast!
-
i recently went to a movie by myself, a scary movie, and there was nobody else in the theater.
great movie. ("the call.")

-
i'm very j rakey about eating alone in a restaurant. i can't imagine doing so in anything that approaches comfort.

i'm unfamiliar with this phrase. what does this mean?
-
I'm not opposed to it, but I've never done it (or went to the movies solo). I feel like if you're alone then maybe the server feels more of a responsibility to talk to you and get in your business and that is the last thing I want. If you have people with you, I think they're probably more likely to piss off and stop hassling you all the time. With company you can also shut them down without so obviously being a dick about it.
-

awkward, uncomfortable or overthought w. respect to social interactions or public behavior.

yes, that's exactly the problem.

good definition, but i'd probably replace the "ors" with "ands."
-
what about playing golf solo?
-
I sense a lot of self esteem problems in this thread.
-

more likely to cheat

it's only a problem if you allow your server to feel that they need to talk to you. again, that's your fault, not the server's.
-
I can't think of a single thing that I wouldn't prefer to do alone.
-
I do it all the time.

Of course it is, but then maybe you alienate them and they do crap to your food that you would prefer they didn't. Then you're left to wonder "Did I just insult that pud and is he back there licking my burger?" Then my dear 'clams you are alone and you are eating a licked burger. No good for you, no good for me, no good for anybody.

silverbacks don't allow their server to get over them
-
My god I cannot even fathom how many licked food items you've ingested over the years.
-
Business its better than sitting in the hotel room....few random hungover Saturdays I'll do it at the bar when friends are still down or not wanting to leave the house.
Kind of weird in Vegas even at the bar but not so bad.
-

I'm probably gonna be doing this quite a bit this summer. I did it on Saturday and shot 5 under on 9 holes. ;)
-
When you do it for business all the time it desensitizes you. Do it all the time.
-

pretty sad bud.
-
I actually prefer to eat out alone and do my own cooking when friends are in the mix. Cooking for one sucks when you don't have a dishwasher.
-
I usually get a table if I can't get a spot at the bar when traveling. I like having TV's and the random chance at good conversation at the bars. One of the best conversations I've ever had was with a 50ish year old guy from Denver that grew up in Topeka and lived in KC around my age. We were both hanging out at the really nice hotel bar/restaurant in Ontario, CA.
It was a small world thing, but we pounded booze, talked Topeka, and watched the NBA playoffs. It was a great night.
I also went and saw Iron Man 3 alone a few weeks ago. It was fantastic. Sat exactly where I wanted, ordered a huge ICEE, and I shut my brain off for a few hours. I plan on doing the same thing with Star Trek soon.
-
Started eating alone a lot more this year. Love it.
Was eating in the Dillion's food court the other day by myself and guess who showed up out of nowhere - our main man Olympic winner stud Erik Kynard sat down alone at the table next to me. :D

I've done that many times. When you're eating by yourself, you want to be left alone.

best place to eat/drink alone? airport. but you're never alone at an airport because your surrounded by 1000s of friends (100s in the Omaha/KC airport)

And you can drink booze anytime of day free of judgment. Airports are rough ridin' magical.
-
Do it regularly and every chance I get. Spend a bunch of the day having to talk to people, and it's fantastic to have the solace, eat and have a drink, watch a game without having to carry on a conversation.
Agreed. The two of us would have a good time not eating together.
-
Apparently ERII and I were both eating alone at the bar at Station last night and Stevesie failed to introduce us.

Walked by a Martini Lounge in DTW yesterday at 7:45 am. Closed? Nope. 4 guys in there with martinis.

STEVE! :dubious:
-
It's definitely acceptable, but it's kinda boring in itself. I think that's why I (and apparently most others posting in this thread) need to be watching a game, reading the paper, or doing something on my phone/device.
-
when eating alone at a place like a grocery store, put some headphones in your ears.
they don't need to be plugged into anything, though. :sdeek:
-
I usually read a book if I am eating alone.

"oh, i love those books! mind if i sit down?"
"well, gee, okay..."

oh, okay. you probably look mean and unconversational, so you're probably fine.

airports are one of the most disgusting places on earth. i understand drinking at them, because you forget where you are. i don't eat at airports unless mandatory and then more than likely it's prepackaged (skittles, maybe some gatorade, etc). everything about airports are laced with germs. good grief.
-
What about eating with your S/O? Especially if you're been together for like 5 years? It's like what do you talk about that you didn't just talk about already this week or whatever. Awkward.

I don't travel as much as I used to, but airports are the thing I miss most about traveling.
I used to love walking around them after a flight delay just to see what was there.
My favorite is still Charlotte. Really solid food options and not so big that you can't just eat wherever you want. I always stop at the Jamba Juice in Terminal C because it's right off of the main area. I also watched the Home Run Derby last year at the Chili's Too. Good times.

Especially when he has the attitude and says things like, "What made you think I would care about that?" Really? WTF!? Would you rather I just sat here and stared at you while I eat?

yum hey this burger tastes great! so glad i found a place to chow at this busy airport sports bar where i waited for a seat and then finally found one when the saudi guy with coronavirus got up to go die.
i'll take another ice cold brew, hope you washed the glasses really well!

I don't like a high percentage of airport people. Hate the food, too. (Rick Bayless's thing excepted)
-
I love going to the movies alone. I get to pick the film and don't have to watch something craptastic like Fast & Furious 9000.
Don't mind eating alone either. I don't see what the big deal is.
-
I started going to concerts by myself a couple years ago. I really enjoy it, but I think I like going with one other person more. going alone is better than going with two or more people.
