I eat by myself all the time at quasi fastfood places(Chipolte,mr gyros, goodcents etc), if traveling for business i will eat at the bar by myself at regular sit down places.

Have a friend that will literally never eat anywhere by himself, will call around to everyone to see if anyone wants to go with him and if not will order his food to go and eat it at home.

I especially like to do it while on business, preferably at high end eating establishments that offer papers like the wall street journal to read. Makes me feel elite...  :gocho:

Did this at the hotel bar/restaurant in Rochester, NY last night. I was excited to have some buffalo wings, beer, and watch non-Royals baseball. The Yankees-Mets game was rain delayed, so they switched to the Royals.

If you are still in doubt, it is completely acceptable. Sometimes, when I am really tired, I order room service and 4 or 5 whiskeys and watch a movie- not preferred, but my second option. First option is a nice restaurant on my own and then a bar and grills/dive. Basically, be your own company and have a blast!

I'm not opposed to it, but I've never done it (or went to the movies solo).  I feel like if you're alone then maybe the server feels more of a responsibility to talk to you and get in your business and that is the last thing I want.  If you have people with you, I think they're probably more likely to piss off and stop hassling you all the time.  With company you can also shut them down without so obviously being a dick about it.

it's only a problem if you allow your server to feel that they need to talk to you.   again, that's your fault, not the server's.

Of course it is, but then maybe you alienate them and they do crap to your food that you would prefer they didn't.  Then you're left to wonder "Did I just insult that pud and is he back there licking my burger?"  Then my dear 'clams you are alone and you are eating a licked burger.  No good for you, no good for me, no good for anybody.

Business its better than sitting in the hotel room....few random hungover Saturdays I'll do it at the bar when friends are still down or not wanting to leave the house.

Kind of weird in Vegas even at the bar but not so bad.

I usually get a table if I can't get a spot at the bar when traveling.  I like having TV's and the random chance at good conversation at the bars.  One of the best conversations I've ever had was with a 50ish year old guy from Denver that grew up in Topeka and lived in KC around my age.  We were both hanging out at the really nice hotel bar/restaurant in Ontario, CA.

It was a small world thing, but we pounded booze, talked Topeka, and watched the NBA playoffs.  It was a great night.

I also went and saw Iron Man 3 alone a few weeks ago.  It was fantastic.  Sat exactly where I wanted, ordered a huge ICEE, and I shut my brain off for a few hours.  I plan on doing the same thing with Star Trek soon.

Do it regularly and every chance I get.   Spend a bunch of the day having to talk to people, and it's fantastic to have the solace, eat and have a drink, watch a game without having to carry on a conversation.

Agreed. The two of us would have a good time not eating together.

airports are one of the most disgusting places on earth.  i understand drinking at them, because you forget where you are.  i don't eat at airports unless mandatory and then more than likely it's prepackaged (skittles, maybe some gatorade, etc).  everything about airports are laced with germs.  good grief.

I don't travel as much as I used to, but airports are the thing I miss most about traveling.

I used to love walking around them after a flight delay just to see what was there.

My favorite is still Charlotte.  Really solid food options and not so big that you can't just eat wherever you want.  I always stop at the Jamba Juice in Terminal C because it's right off of the main area.  I also watched the Home Run Derby last year at the Chili's Too.  Good times.

I started going to concerts by myself a couple years ago. I really enjoy it, but I think I like going with one other person more. going alone is better than going with two or more people.
