"According to an email from Warren Strauss, K-State director of internal auditing, the K-State Policy on Alcohol Cereal Malt Beverage has been updated with a revised section .040. The section, titled Athletic Facilities and Athletic Events, now states that “all sales of alcoholic liquor and cereal malt beverage shall be conducted by a third-party concessionaire.”
Previously, alcohol was not sold in the general admissions sections of home football and basketball games. The new policy allows for third-party vendors to sell alcohol to those of legal drinking age provided that they hold liability insurance and indemnify the university with respect to such sales.
The policy still bars spectators from bringing alcohol into the stadium and reserves the right of the university to eject unruly fans from the stadium."

It sucks that there is no way these vendors near students. And even less chance they let us take it to our seats. :(

to me, heaven is sitting in my seat at 4:30 on an bright october afternoon and watching jake waters run out the clock against some overmatched conference opponent while sipping on my 5th tallgrass-brewed pounder and discussing next week's top 15 ranking with my old man. i'm tearing up thinking about it.

God Bless You, Friend.

They will likely cut off sales before the four quarter, right? Isn't that the way it works at Chiefs games, for example?
-
I pray they invest in many, many kiosks to sell this stuff.
And, what golden age for the upper deck. First bathrooms, and now beer. Amazing.
-
How long until KU copies big bro?

it will be half time.

He said it starts this weekend.
Kellis Robinett @KellisRobinett
In regards to this article from the K-State Collegian kstatecollegian.com/2013/04/23/uni… I can confirm K-State will serve beer at baseball this weekend.

Meh, Pandora's box. Once it's open
-
I assume the "experiment" will be a rousing success with baseball and they will expand the "experiment" to football in like August

Did WVU have something to do with this?

wvu made $700k and reduced the number of excessive drinking incidents by 30%

A keg of bud lt costs like 95$. Say you get 150 12oz servings at 4.50 per serving. How many kegs do they go through in a weekend?

The angriest fan base in America just got ALOT angrier

T's & P's KSUbrian

I just crapped my pants with excitement.
This guy, but drunk. >>>
-
Hell, I might even go get mumped up watching some Women's Volleyball with MIR.
-
man, how pissed is everyone going to be when this is just a ploy to get more people to go to baseball games?
-
So does this mean they're going to stop being such tight asses about alcohol in the parking lot and we won't have to use plastic cups anymore?
-
Guys, I can't wait to drink in front of my children.
-
Guys, I can't wait to drink in front of my children.
Why wait?
-
Too bad they didn't do this when Ron was around. We wouldn't have thought twice about singing that rough ridin' power towel song by the 4th quarter.
-
So does this mean they're going to stop being such tight asses about alcohol in the parking lot and we won't have to use plastic cups anymore?
probably the opposite since they stand to make money from you buying your booze from them.
Edit: the tailgaiting is unlikely to change. it will remain awesome, except at halftime when it will cease to exist.
-

I was worried about that, but they aren't going to be selling beer six hours before kickoff when the lots open so no competition there. IIRC the reason they are sticklers about booze is that alcohol isn't allowed on state property. But if they're selling beer in the Bill maybe that isn't a rule any longer, or at least for sporting events on state property.
-
the absolute best thing about this whole thing will be that it will stop all the rough ridin' retards from leaving with 5:00 left in the 2nd quarter and not coming back until 5:00 left in the fourth quarter.

There is no shame in loving alcohol. It was KSU's error to not allow devotees to drink in the stadium. Now everyone wins and no one has to call their fellow fans "retards" ever again.
-
Man, the collegian better bring back Mendenhall to deal with this shitstorm.
-
Sneaking in booze isn't very difficult. I'm pretty cheap so I'll probably stick to doing that rather than a bunch of $7 12oz Miller Lites
-

Once I know what containers they'll be using, I'll start tailgating with it and then stick a few in my back pockets on the way in. That way I can be cheap without anyone noticing.

nope, 4th quarter is buy one, get one free

Buddy in the AD told me it is true. However, ONLY beer will be sold and it WILL be 3.2%. :dubious:
My high on this news came crashing immediately. $8 for a 16 oz 3.2% beer? I will still  just not nearly enough. I'll still head out to my car during half-time.

I enjoy cat games sober.

people who fret about the alcohol percentage of domestic light beers are wasting their time. at the end of the night it might be the difference between drinking 17 beers vs. 18 beers.
you won't be able to head out to your car at half-time.

For some reason, i think BSFS should have cheaper drinks than the Sprint Center

Agree with cheaper drinks. The cheaper I can drink, the better I like it. Also consistent with market dynamics, I suspect.

The royals and chiefs get bulk discounts that aren't allowed in ks. 8 sounds right.

getting completely blasted in the stadium sounds delicious and I am excited to do it

wrong. no turning back now, at least for football.

Currie will end up moving this experiment over to football, then quickly intricate a breathalyzer system that checks each driver's BA while leaving the parking lot. Bank on it
Why the eff not? Just more $, and trust me we can hold our alcohol

If I get to enjoy a beezy inside BSFS I'm gonna have to reevaluate the legacy of the Currie/Shultz regime.
-
thought this would devalue club seating?

thought this would devalue club seating?
maybe somewhat. Does the club continue to serve the whole game?
-
I don't get the haters. You have been given an option, no one is forcing you to exercise the option.
not if you can't leave at halftime, then that option is taken away.
Has anyone said that will be the case? I missed it if so and would agree with you. But honestly I'd rather enjoy a beer in my seat than have to walk to the tailgate.
-
Is it really even worth debating in-game liquorsmithing v. no readmission? I mean 3 hours of booze is more than 20 minutes, amirite? :dunno:
And 3.2? Who cares? Id wager the avg human can't tell a difference.
-
Awesome news. Congrats, friends.
:tsc:
-

Maybe club seating will be allowed to leave at half and come back 5 min into the 4th? :dunno:

Nothing about this crew is average.

important question: are they going to let me buy 2+ beers per trip to the vendor or am I going to have to get random sober dorks to buy a beer with me so I can haul 3 or 4 sudsy fun bombs back to my seat?
-

Yeah, they'll probably do this and sell them at the bottom of the student section but with no real like vending station set up just like a tap and a bunch of red cups.

what if willy packed the shirt cannon with a bunch of PBR talls and just started blasting them into the stands. I would go rough ridin' nuts you guys. I really want to catch one.

Wonder who would need to indemnify Willie/KSU Athletics in that situation... the distributor? PBR? the Shirt Cannon manufacturers? Combo?

What kind of Boozecat would sue Willie if he rifled a cold can of PBr at their earhole?
-
wonder if this shirt gun would fit 24 oz busch cans or if it was made specifically for pbr. then again the camo buschies could be kind of hard to see and catch especially if theyre coming at you like 67 mph.

maybe a new thing for BSFS is that right at the end of the national anthem we all say "home...of the...." and just chug our brews instead of saying brave. to show respect for our fallen brothers.

I agree with the other wetblankets. Alcohol has a very long track record of making social and sporting events absolutely horrible. I have no doubt that each cat game that has booze will be the worst. To the point that each individual one will be worse than the one before it, escalating on and on until the game doesn't even matter any more and the stands are one large beer-lubed orgy with everyone high on smack and dope and reefer(SP, don't know how to spell it since I am a wholesome non-doping non-longhaired non-FM type whateverthatquotefromthattuckwas person).

I'm going to drink a beer and think about how great it is going to be to drink beers at BSFS

OMG, great timing on this post. I've been officiating a kickball league on wednesday/thursday nights and there's a lot of hipsters in it. You should see all the creative low budget beer they bring. They always hand me old styles.

OMG, great timing on this post. I've been officiating a kickball league on wednesday/thursday nights and there's a lot of hipsters in it. You should see all the creative low budget beer they bring. They always hand me old styles.
I also favor the team who gives me the most amount of beers. Works like clockwork.
i need to find where this place is an heckle the crap out of wackycat
Penn Valley Park. :gocho: Last night I wore a striped red and white tommy hilifer polo and one of the teams heckled the crap out of me. They kept saying: "Where's Waldo, make a better call!

What part of fanning being an adult kickball ref is off limits for making fun of? No one seems to be doing it, low hanging fruit, I guess?

Extra beer money? Easy money? Hanging out with young professionals and networking? Free booze? Man, what a loser!

Sounds fun. Not like it's his career.
:dunno:

Maybe adult kickball is more fun than I would expect. I imagine it as unatheltic, awkward, losery people playing a "sport" that is at least one level below beer league softball. Maybe I'm wrong.
-
I can't believe there will possibly be drunk people at future games played in our fair stadium

fanning being an adult kickball ref is about #4,356 on the list of things we should make fun of about fanning.

It's pretty fun man. I've met a lot of ppl through it. I've played for years. It's fun to watch them play with beer in hand and then try to catch a pop fly while PAK'd.
-
adult kickball seems way more social and pak-friendly than softball, and that's saying something. i'd give it a whirl :dunno:
(not in fanning's league though) :fatty:
-
i gotta be honest, i think i'd really enjoy some adult kickball.
wack on wackycat!

Picture co-ed softball. Eliminate the guys trying to relive their high school glory days. Eliminate the super crappy people that are kind of annoying (nobody can be crappy at kickball). Add in more boozing = Adult Kickball
-
See, I told you 8man. :D

hold your horses, no one said being a ref would be cool.

Great, great description. You also can't be great at kickball. No matter how strong your leg is you can't just blast the ball and get on base every time.

Wow fanning has a fascinating life....
Anyone go to the baseball game last night? What was the beer situation?

NETWORKING!!!!! That is effing awesome! "What can I do to get myself out there and meet people in the know that will help me personally and professionally? I know, I'll be an adult kickball ref." PROFIT!!!!
I was letting it go until you claimed "networking." Put this in Wackycat Stuff.

you're at the most beautiful and historic football venue in the world (the parking lot of BSFS) and all of your best buds are there. It's a 65 degree fall day and the sun is shining. you can hear marching band music and smell charcoal and you could not feel more amazing than you do because you are completely shitfaced on booze.

If boozing is encouraged enough, we should be able to oversell our seats by like 20% without problem due to shitfaced ppl not actually making the game due to being too shitfaced.

This sounds like a good weekend to end my experimentation with a lifestyle rooted in moderation.

If they could identify the most commonly shitfaced people and issue them non-existant seat numbers, that would be ideal!
-
There was a nice argument earlier in this thread about which beers are hipster

consider my dick out

Let's all raise our cans of beer together and be #1Cat regardless of beer choice

BSFS parking lot: 27 square miles of uninterrupted asphalt and great people.

This may of may not have happened to Metalhead during the 2012 CTR. He may or may not have been time-traveling.

BSFS parking lot: why have trees when they just get in the way of the people boozing their faces off?

Great poetry but it doesn't answer my question

And then they bulldozed our parking lots to put up some campus buildings and a pond. because ku fans made fun of us.

our lovable shaggy orange brethren sold $1.8M of booze at football games last fall, including $500k worth of miller lite
http://www.chron.com/local/education/campus-chronicles/article/UT-made-half-a-million-off-Miller-Lites-this-6738757.php
University of Texas officials might feel a bit of a buzz after selling more than $1.8 million during the school's first year offering alcoholic beverages at Longhorn football games.
More than half of the total came from sales of light beer.
The school sold 62,275 Miller Lites -- the top-selling beer at the stadium, totaling $494,000 alone, according to records provided to the Houston Chronicle. Miller was the second-highest sold item at stadium concessions, behind only bottled water.
Coors Light, the third-highest selling product, and Bud Light, the sixth-highest, brought in $433,290 and $182,828, respectively. Sales of wine and hard liquor were far lower.
See the full break down of sales in the gallery above.
Officials at the flagship sought for years to sell alcohol at football games, a move that was blocked by the university system in the past. UT Chancellor Bill McRaven, who was hired last year and had yet to weigh in on the issue, gave the OK in June.
Dozens of schools, including West Virginia and Kansas State, have started selling beer at games, in some cases citing binge drinking at pre-game tailgates as a reason. The Austin flagship became the fourth UT System school — after The University of Texas at El Paso, The University of Texas at San Antonio and The University of Texas at Arlington – to serve adult beverages at sports events. Other in-state institutions offering similar service are the University of North Texas, SMU and the University of Houston.
UT Austin President Gregory Fenves said on his first day on the job that he wanted to sell alcohol at games. But it wasn't about the money, officials have said. UT already provided football fans a world-class experience.
"I think being able to serve beer to them is part of that experience," Fenves said at the time.
Alcohol accounted for more than half of the $3.7 million in food and drinks sold at the stadium.

I enjoyed a few Miller Lites at my last visit to DKR.
-
I'd be curious to see if they have stats on alcohol related medical calls around the stadium.
Last football game at BSFS there was a guy tossed out for puking all over. Kept trying to give the attendants (looked like student workers) money as an apology and the supervisor wouldn't let them keep it.

Incidents actually went down after WVU implemented. With access to booze during a game people are less likely to binge before and at half. Halftime is what got me for TCU.

Exactly what I hope they tracked. But in moderation.
