Title: 2013-14 Scoring
Post by: KST8FAN on March 17, 2013, 01:01:45 PM
Who becomes the "go to guy" next year for this team?  How do we replace PPG/RPG that Rodney gave us?

Shane not playing the 4, moving to the three

Losing Rod well hurt, but we have 3 very efficient scorers coming back in Angel, Shane, and Gip.

Foster - Australian for "I'm going to score a crap ton of points."

Angel will have a more defined scoring role.

But if you are asking who will be the 3 next year, I think Shane moves into that role. And his backup will be Omari.

You are right KKK. Focus on the next game. don't want to get caught looking ahead. That 14 seed needs our full attention come.

I want to move Shane to the 3, hope a combo of DJamer Swagu Nino or one of the two
incoming freshmen who are taller than 6'5(doubt it) really steps up and can play the 4, and Gip improves and can go 25-29 minutes effectively. Bench Will start Foster and we will get points. Angel studing is a given.

Shane not playing the 4, moving to the three

Doubt it. We have no other bigs to take his spot.

Nino/Fincher.

I think we will have to play bigger next year. We just don't have 4 good guards next year, or the depth to keep them on the floor.

Yeah, I like Omari at the 3 too. But where is the depth behind him?

1: Angel, Jevon Thomas
2: Sprads, Marcus Foster
3: Omari, Westicles
4: Shane, Nino, Neville Fincher
5: Gip, DJamer, Diaz

Either way, our weakness is at the 3/4 next year. I suppose it just depends on which freshman come in and play well.

If Omari goes out, Shane moves to the 3 and Nino comes in at the 4. We'll be fine.

It's probably unlikely, but I hope at least one of Foster/Westicles can beat out Will/ Omari.

Come on FAN, we both know Will is still going to start and get over 25 minutes a game. Probably more because Irving is gone.

DIAZ is going to shock the world. Has the most talent of all the post players.

Angel / Orris / Thomas
Will /  Foster or EMAPE
Shane / EMAPE or Wesley
Diaz / Shane / Nino
Gip / DJamer / Flincher

Pro Tip: oscar doesn't get freshmen ready to play their first year, only one of the freshmen will be able to step in and play right away.
Shane and Angel are going to play a ton of minutes.

Diaz f'ng sucks.  Soft as rough ridin' crap.  LOL at expecting anything from Omari.  Garbage.

We have Angel and Shane, then Gip. Pretty meh.

PG: Angel/Thomas (Orris until Thomas is eligible)
SG: Will/Foster (Foster has to play, but his lack of defense, allegedly, scares me)
SF: Shane/Omari/Westicles
PF: DJamer/Niño
C: Gipson/Diaz

Depending on whether or not Omari can develop considerably, and we can get quality minutes out of Westicles, we may be able to play Shane at the four enough that Fincher can redshirt. That's my hope anyway.

Jevon is reportedly our best recruit, but hr can't even practice with the team until the second semester, can he?

If so, tough to imagine him adding anything until February.

I'm hoping for huge jumps by a lot of guys. Otherwise, I feel we're a bubble team most of the year.  I can't bet against a team with a PG like Angel, though.

I thought he could play around Christmas, but would love to know for sure. He's a huge X factor.  He's damn good.

I have hopes for Foster and Westicles, but not next year.

Players get better under Weber, he is really good at developing players. He sucks at getting freshmen ready to play college basketball. I expect to see big strides from Gip, Shane, Diaz, Orris and DJamer. Angel will become a better shooter. I really don't know what to expect from EMAPE. I don't think Will will become better.

Bubble sounds about right.  Others have pointed out the conference isn't exactly going to be great next year.  Half a season of Orris as our backup PG and Spradling/Foster at the 2 are both troubling.

i sorta agree, but art and gip are enough to make it a tourney team.  the 2 and 3 are pretty scary; if southie reverts to mean, it could be a very frustrating year.

Big 12 play:
Gip nearly 30 pts per 100. Angel 26. Shane 22. Pretty solid trio.

oh, yeah.  i'm not worried about art and gip.  they can score and will score.

southie worries me some, mostly in terms of 3fg%, but even if he falls off in that respect, he is a competent player, and is great at the 4.  i'd be a lot less enthusiastic about seeing him at the 3 and a couple of conventional bigs playing at the same time.
Title: Re: 2013-14 Scoring

Hope for Diaz is wasted hope.

DJamer will sub for Gip and we will play the exact same set as when Gip is in only maybe look for Shane more before feeding the post than we would when Gip is in.

I think Nino starts at the four and Shane at the 3.

We're really going to miss Martavious off the bench. He really made up for those moments when Will needed to sit. We may not have much in the way of a replacement for those moments next season, although Foster could surprise...

Angel is a first teamer in conference next year, we dance. If not, we don't.

Title: Re: 2013-14 Scoring

I am afraid that Shane will be less efficient when relied upon for more than he currently gives. He will need to improve off the bounce. As it sits now Angel is the only player capable of getting into the paint if that's the case the defenders will be able to sit on shooters.

I think we have to play big, as previously mentioned we won't have the guard depth to play small again.

If we are going to be a very good team we will need Spradling, hurts to type.

Jevon can participate in unofficial workouts with the team and he will get to play the first game after the completion of the fall semester so depending on the schedule he may get up to 5 non con games before conference play starts.
