Title: A successful season?
Post by: CHONGS on March 17, 2013, 08:51:45 AM
If k-state wins no more games this year, was it still a successful season?  I honestly don't know what I would say.

How about just one more game? Does that make much of a difference?

Sweet 16 or bust.

For most here, I'd say K-State needs 2 more wins. 1 more win will satisfy some, but there will still be disappointment. A first round loss should be disappointing to everybody.

I think the season expectations for most college basketball fans are pretty simple; play good basketball during the season to get a high seed, then in the tournament at least play to your seed. The Cats gave us a bonus conference title this year as well, so that helps, but at the end of the day most college basketball seasons will be judged by March, and you set up your chances of success in March in large part by what you do during the season.

It's a successful season no matter what happens. The conference title was very nice even if the league was pure dogshit.

I am pleased with the conference championship, because it was necessary to fulfill the prophecy.  oscar is following his script.

I said before the season this team should win 25 games and make it to the sweet 16.

a conf championship makes the season successful, however it doesn't mean you shouldn't be irate if we don't make it to the s16.

If we exit early, we'll be all meltdown for a day or two, then say, oh well, we won a title after being picked 6th.

If we make the Sweet 16, we can avoid the meltdown.

Either way, we'll ultimately decide this was a successful season.

can we be clear about why we were picked 5th or 6th or whatever by the coaches?  it's because they all thought oscar rough ridin' sucks and Baylor was going to be good, not because we had a bad team coming back.

I think it was more a new coach/new system thing, but your right in that they drastically underestimated oscar, and that we'd have been picked higher with Frank.  Probably 3rd or 4th.

Pete is right.  This is exactly what was predicted.  Wait'll Will plays significant minutes and Angel has to completely carry the scoring.

Generally I'd say the season so far is a success. Could be more, but we got more in the pro column than the con by a lot. I'd like to think in terms of basketball our goal should be compete for and occasionally win a conference title, and make it at least to the second weekend in the tourney. We've done the former, now it's time to do the latter.

Assuming we get at least a 4 seed, we will be in KC and playing 2 teams ranked lower than us. Yeah, if we don't make it to the second weekend, fire oscar, bring in the other oscar.

It already is a successful season. Anytime you make the NCAA tournament it is successful.

This team should be competing for a conference title and it did and got a share. As long as this team doesn't lose the first round, I will call it a really good season.

This could easily be a great season and we can't rule out the chance of it being the best season ever if we get hot from 3 for an extended period.

any time you are an 8 seed or better it is a successful season, no matter what happens in the big 12 and ncaa tourneys.  really, any time you qualify for the ncaa tourney, it's been a successful season.

Already successful.  The math demonstrates:

major conference title joy > sweet 16 joy

major conference title joy = elite 8 joy

major conference title joy < final 4 joy

First title since 19-freakin-77.  You should be enjoying this more.

27 wins and winning a conf title  =   been a great season so far

Losing the first game would hang a cloud over this successful season,   a black cloud

Losing in R32 will bring dissappointment because we are playing in our backyard  and we have played well at Sprint

Get to the Sweet 16 and what happens....... happens

I don't think all conference titles (or sweet 16's or elite 8's) are created equal, but it's impossible to not consider a season a success when you get either a conference title or sweet 16.

Conference titles will almost always tell you more about the overall health of the program, though.

I enjoyed beating OSU in the tourney about as much as I've enjoyed any sporting event this year with maybe the exception of @OU.

And even saying that, I remember how fun the Rodney game at Baylor was. Watching it on ESPN3 on delay just added to the suspense, because I could see there was no OT and still had no idea WTF was going to happen.

No matter what happens from here, this season has been the most successful season we have had since 2010 and a long time before that. If we make the S16 it will be more successful than 2010 and the most successful season we have had since before I paid attention to KState basketball.

pretty much this.

the season has been a success no matter how you look at it. if we lose in the first round it will be disappointing but it doesnt change the season as a whole

we have decent recruits signed a couple of fist pumping wins a trophy and a 4 seed im not sure how else to look at it
