the plan is to play jhr, keep the ball in art's hands and we storm the court.
And let Rodney take over.
I think we'll see a lot of DJamer tomorrow. I'm assuming JO's back will hinder his minutesI will be b ecstatic if anything but foul trouble limits JO's minutes.
rest the starters, play for what's important

Do you think it did tonight? He appeared kinda awkward (weird, I know) right after the tip off but I thought he ended up playing pretty damn well.

He played very well tonight, idk I just think coming back less than 24 hours later is going to be tough to do. I hope he proves me wrong though
Dear oscar; don't go with the play faster/attack the paint plan we used in Lawrence.
I'd rather much rather see 30 3PTAs again.

I would like to see both...attack Withey, and if it doesn't look good kick for a three. I just don't want JO or Gip trying to muscle the ball in there.

this. :bawl:
if we win it'll be because we hit an absurd amount of jump shots. we have no answer for withey's interior defense. I guess JO could have some sort of miracle game but that's hard to count on.

Cats will win.
100% guarantee we piss down our leg. KU is like, really, really in our heads.
I think Rodney puts the finishing touches on his tournament MVP resume, Angel has a good game, and the Cats win by six.

I so want this to happen. Pretty much since Huggs I've thought we were capable of playing with and beating KU, especially in Manhattan and on neutrals. But only twice have we managed to win those games, and often we've lost in very disappointing fashion. I hope I'm very wrong about the game, but I see us having 3-4 things that have to go right, and I'm not sure we'll get all of those done.

As a high school senior, I remember watching the 2nd half of that game in the Hays, Kansas mall after watching some 1A state tournament action. I had no idea I'd see only 4 more wins over KU in the next 20 years of my life and after a win in Lawrence the next season, the next win wouldn't come over KU for another 11 seasons.
KU by 11-16
It hurts to know how this will end because I want it so bad for Rod, Tay and JO. You can really tell how bad they want it and that's the problem; they want it too bad.
KState wins, and it won't be close.

Hard to argue he's wrong when we've spent the last 30 years hating them more than the taliban while beating them about once every 5 years.
Now allow me some time to go to twitter and KSO to see the meltdown about his comments.

I can’t remember such a time where it seemed to inject much enthusiasm and inspired play on the court.
We're going to win and it's going to be relatively easy.
I kind of agree with tang. Also too much of our fanbase is comprised of yokels who just want to beat ku and show up in big numbers for the annual fball bowl game. It%u2019s embarrassing and small minded.

he's exactly correct. I would have maybe added that people should be fired up and loud for the game also because it's a top 5 opponent at home. If he gets the program where he wants it, it will be just another big game to stay at the top of conf.
Thankfully i don't follow many dorks who were pissed about it. As soon as he said rent free, i knew the awful ksu twitter reply guys would be pissed. dorks
Also Baylor doesn't have a rival so he probably has no idea how that works with the fans

This is probably true. A small population with 2 P5 schools makes it nearly impossible not to interact with your rival on a daily basis.
Coach Tang's comments helped me to re-orient from a perspective of hate for my enemies toward renewed and deeper love for my Cats. Oh for sure, and I think he also made those comments from the perspective of someone who's been in the conference for nearly 20 years on the outside looking in. Like, it was a "this is obvious how do you not see that" that plenty inside the bubble just can't see like he (and many others) does.
Squawks pretending to not care about the cats is their living rent free analog. The sunflower is important to both sides and that's part of what makes college sports great!

It feels like this is directed at me. If so, I will say I would be happy for you guys (well, the cats I actually know. Not the internet fanbase) if you won. For me, it's just another day on the calendar.

K-State should be worried about two things moving forward. In both Football and the Hobby Sport winning Big 12 Titles and making it to the Final 4 are Top Priority. Tang has won National Championships and Klieman won them at a different level but that doesn't mean he can't do it in Manhattan.I kind of agree with tang. he is 100% correct. i was with some farmseed relative over the holidays who was celebrating that KU lost to Tennessee, and i was like don't you realize it's bad for k state when a b12 team loses a noncon game? and he looked at me as if i had just told him i was trans

1. Missouri is our rival.

I don't believe in santa, the easter bunny, curses, nor do I mythologize KU. They've beaten the crap out of us for most of our lifetimes. Those teams weren't these teams. I've watched them fall behind double digits to interior opponents all season, to this point. This game will be the toughest game they've had, I don't think it will be as easy for them to come back tonight as they have against ISU or the Oklahoma schools. I think we're going to win, because of the same reason I'd thought we would lose on Saturday. This conference is hard as hell and eventually everyone's got to pay for their shortcomings.

If we could get them to wear someone else's jersey and convince the team it really wasn't the Jayhawks we were playing I would agree with you. Historically even our good teams who were capable of beating then got caught up in the whole "OMG We are beating them" euphoria and start doing stupid things.
My hope is that this team has enough new blood to the program that this is just a big game because it's a conference game against a ranked opponent and not focus on the stupid cartoon bird logo.
When do gates open tonight, I want to beat him in? :billdance:

2. Anything could happen. I don't have a strong feeling either way. We are ball Hawks, so it could go the way of TCU. Or maybe not!
3. I hope for a good, clean game with no injuries to these young sportsmen.

where the dummies talking crap about ish. 🤡
College basketball reffing is a complete mystery to meThat over the back call was unreal

Refs wouldn’t have made it out of the OOD alive had they called that

I think we can agree that we're all winners tonight. . .
Because we didn’t have to watch/hear/witness oscar Weber on the sidelines. Amen.
So, taking the game winning lead with an alley-oop over your top 5 ranked in-state rival, is an all-time historical "thing," right? It has to be.

i don't care if he wins 2 big 12s and goes to an elite 8. he's preachy and i don't like his voice
Tang might be the biggest upgrade we've ever had at the University. He has staying power type of crap. Like a tourney appearance every year kind of guy and dudes galore. He could be a top 10 coach in two years.
Do you, Fanning, actually believe that a grown man would change jobs because some college kids say "eff?"

the little man syndrome in our fanbase is going to get really old, really quickly, though. His name will always be up for big jobs, doesn't mean he's leaving. If his name is up for those jobs then that means we're having success, so enjoy it.

I think several on this board have already put forward pretty compelling arguments as to why the F-KU chant is one of the dumbest things to come out of the student section. The fact that a successful coach specifically says don't do it should really be the end of the discussion.
I'm just here for the Gems from the Phog

What all do you think motivates a coach to stay at a program? I'd put money (including assistant coach salaries), facilities, and AD relationship at the top, but you're telling me that fan support isn't a factor? Hell, even if Tang doesn't give a crap about whether fans support the team in the way Tang thinks is appropriate, I'm sure media partners have reached out to the AD's office about this kind of stuff.
Self's skin looked unhealthPeople who hide multiple affairs', a hair piece, NCAA infractions, etc. takes a toll on a person over time.

oscar was awesome for the first 6 years but he refused to adjust to modern day transfer portal NIL recruiting and went full Snyder 2.0 on his coaching staff at the end. We have been blessed with 4 straight coaches that have given us excitement and good times. I love Tang the most of them all though. You're always a premier truth teller
I think that chant will be gone by next year. There will still be people chanting it, but enough people will chant K-S-U to drown them out.Hopefully fans PI the dipshits that try and do it.

You don't find using the phrase "little man syndrome in our fan base" while caping up for the eff KU chant, ironic? Are you intentionally being ironic but I'm missing it? That's gotta be it, you're being much more clever than stunted.

Is the stunted thing a bit? I am just jumping back onto the board after a couple year hiatus, and I can't really tell. Whether it's in earnest or not, it sucks incredibly bad. Go cats.

I'm talking about how any mentions of Tang going elsewhere sends our fanbase into panic mode. It's a great thing if our coach is someone other schools would be interested in.
I'm done in regards to the chant. I'll never see eye-to-eye with people who worry about a word.
The fam and I were noting how unhealthy Bill looked during the broadcast last night. He may soon rival Bob Huggins for most likely to require defibrillation during a game. In contrast, our Coach radiates health and vitality. The contrast could not be more stark.Self's skin looked unhealth.
Bloated and red. Like he drinks a lot. Looks very stressed out too.
It's super easy to point at one instance like that, but there were 3-4 of very similar instances last night and none of them were called(both sides). There were an absolute crazy amount of fouls not called last night. If you are someone who wants all fouls called, the refs were awful. However, they did it very evenly, imo.
The main thing I had issue with was at the end when we had a fast break with the ball in Johnson's hands, and they stopped the play because Wilson had a slight limp on the other end of the floor. He was on his own two feet, slight limp, they blew the whistle, limp immediately went away and he wasn't made to leave the court at all. Some bullshit theater kid crap took away a fast break from us at the end of the game. That made me ragey, but the rest was pretty even, imo.
Most fun I’ve had watching KState hoops in a while. I was a junior at MHS when Beasley and co beat KU at home in 2008. Remember running through campus and by Bramlage earlier that afternoon seeing the crazy line of students waiting for entry. That was a fun game to watch and last nights matchup kind of took me back to that same feeling.
Enjoying the ride Coach Tang and this team are taking us on.
If anything, our student section is a big reason why a coach would take this job (as stated by Tang), and a big reason to stick with the job (if you can get a kid to visit and see our wall of students along the court, it makes an impression).
I guess I'm weird. I admittedly am not much of a basketball guy, but aside from winning and the opp to take the lead, this game was brutal. Especially the second half. Watching dudes shoot free throws for 3 hours just isn't my idea of a good time. I love coach and am really glad we won though!!! :ksu:

I thought the worst call of the game was when a KU player went over the back for a put back and drew a foul call in the process. Don't remember who it was, but it was a god awful call. Also, there were so many whistles where a driving player jumped away from the basket. Weak shots like that should never draw fouls.

I don't understand why other teams, particularly KU, get upset about people praising the Bramlage atmosphere. We have 30% or so of the crowd being rowdy students. Most schools don't. They'll consistently make more money on tickets (even against our best years) because of their ratio, but those donors can't compete with student energy. It's comparing apples to oranges.

It’s an advantage present at KSU that is tougher to replicate at most places. Tang thinks it needs fine-tuned both to jive with his values and convictions, but also to provide the most decided advantage. I agree with him that an joyful, exuberant crowd is more advantageous than a bitter, angry antagonistic crowd.

In general I would agree, but I could also see the viewpoint of “I’m fine with the students being angry bc students can boo at the refs all they want and the players can’t” so even when the players would love to protest a crap call, they know the students will give them the business.
But! The constant booing at every perceived sleight is very small timey Iowa state crap, so I suppose there’s a fine line

I can’t think of a single instance in all my years of watching bball in the OOD where rampant booing, bad vibes led to inspired play or a KSU run.

I kind of like the anger at every little thing. It might not inspire better play on the court but I do think it subconsciously weighs on the refs over the course of the game.
Bill Self (and plenty of other good coaches) basically do the same thing by constantly being in the ref’s ear.
I say play sandstorm and let the chips fall
So I'm watching the WVU student crowd chant "bad person," "bullshit" and "dumbass" throughout the game. I don't imagine Huggins is goin to lecture themYeah, he’s a washed blowhard and 0-6 in league. Great observation!
Shut up about the chant, this is honestly worse than the chant itselfIt’s a tough conversation for some who hold it dearly, I get it, but I’d rather have consistent success with thee guy, over getting your anger out for a few hours a year. Just go see someone.
So I'm watching the WVU student crowd chant "bad person," "bullshit" and "dumbass" throughout the game. I don't imagine Huggins is goin to lecture them
the little man syndrome in our fanbase is going to get really old, really quickly, though. His name will always be up for big jobs, doesn't mean he's leaving. If his name is up for those jobs then that means we're having success, so enjoy it.
You don't find using the phrase "little man syndrome in our fan base" while caping up for the eff KU chant, ironic? Are you intentionally being ironic but I'm missing it? That's gotta be it, you're being much more clever than stunted.
I'm talking about how any mentions of Tang going elsewhere sends our fanbase into panic mode. It's a great thing if our coach is someone other schools would be interested in.
I'm done in regards to the chant. I'll never see eye-to-eye with people who worry about a word.
Really? smh
The chant is dumb, talking about the chant is dumb, seeing a bunch of k-state fans pointing out mizzou doing it is dumb. It's gotten to the "culture wars/cancel culture" level of back and forth from a bunch of people on all sides giving too much care what some 18-22 year olds do for one song. I wish it didn't happen, but stopping it is impossible.
ku fans do the same things but for other stuff, rip their rough ridin' heads off was a thing I heard plenty of times from them on kick offs, tons of dumb people do dumb things,
It's not impossible to stop. Jerome Tang will have it stopped very soon.
So I'm watching the WVU student crowd chant "bad person," "bullshit" and "dumbass" throughout the game. I don't imagine Huggins is goin to lecture them
Tang's made it very clear its not about the F word, it's about focusing on the other team rather than our own. He hasn't said anything about a "BULLSHIT" chant or any other time the fans use bad words
You can post tweets here TPTCan't see Tang's retweet annotation, but here it is:

My gawd that is sad. It screams "tiny weiner". No wonder KU doesn't take our fanbase seriously.
I mean, the Rec is for students, in that you can’t just get a membership if you’re a regular old townie. (At least I don’t think you can, or you couldn’t decades ago.) Games are totally different. It’s a public university and the games are open to — and also dependent on — the public.
Without students, there is no university. Without a university, there are no games.Without alumni, their donations and their support, there is no athletics department and pretty much no university. I'm sure Dax has more insight but pretty sure the university would struggle to exist without the private money.
Could also lobby the county or city to pass a $1000 fine for chanting "eff" in a public place. Have the same cops police the OOD that normally walk around Aggieville handing out MIP's. Grab a few kids, hit them with a $1K fine. Grab a few more each time it happens. It will stop eventually.
What if they just change the Chant to like Lets Go Brandon (Rush)!
Everything we have tried to dissuade the students from doing the chant has failed. All this clutching at pearls...and zero real action. Either people are lying about being offended about the chant (secretly loving it), or they are ineffective leaders that should themselves be removed.
Certainly the alumni and non-student fans in attendance would not object to taking this stand have their entertainment shortened for the evening when the game is forfeited.
Take real action, or shut the eff up.
An idea I’ve been mulling over is politely asking the chanters not to be whiny little baby bitches about it and act like they’re supporting a team that is obsessed with competing for championships instead of beating one team.I HAVE A SNEAKING SUSPENSION THAT WILL NOT WORK AND THEN YOU WILL USE THE S WORD!

(I hope any other spec writers/editors read this blog post and go make their specs better if they aren't already)
My memory of The Chant is that it started during a timeout in a game against the squawks while sandstorm (a sarcastic nod to jersey shore’s popularity at the time) was playing and when massa seff thought it was a 30 second timeout and sent his players on the floor to stand there and be serenaded with eff KU. It was hilarious and we won and everyone was exuberant and for some time The Chant had nothing to do with basketball or squawks or anything other than calling back to that great time EMAW’s had in unison at that moment.
And then the school made a big deal about it as if it was some official tradition that needed to be regulated and it’s carried on only because of the attention it got, with the battles over it being pretty amusing and distracting from anything on the court/field.
Am I misremembering?

This is correct, even "must" is not a good thing to do. As is insure/ensure/guarantee and other such no go words.

I’ve decided that if they win, I am ok with them rushing the court.
how does one steal espn+
How do you access it through HULU? I just checked and the sports section is blank.do you have "hulu plus live TV" or just plain hulu?

First, we won't rush the court. Give me a break ...
Second, how is a traditional rivalry game among top 10 teams, one of whom is the defending champy, relegated to ESPN+? Is it because it's just the State of Kansas? Is it because the network folks expected KSU to be dead last when the TV schedules were made? I'm outraged that more people won't get to see us wax that #7 ass.

ESPN sets the time and channel for all of its basketball games before the season starts, and KSU has finished around last for the last few years.

Spracne is absolutely correct. All the middle-aged Johnson Countians won't have the moxie or energy to rush the court if the Squawks win.IF KU beats us they rush the court IMO

And that was what I thought, but what I didn't know was whether there were any ability to flex scheduling during the season, like the NFL does. I guess the answer is no?

Would be pretty cool if ku missed a 3 but I don’t really see that happeningI mean they shot like 10% last game
Spracne, what's with the jayhawk chop during free throws?

Travis Kelce appears to be a KU fan.Definitely not a Cincinnati fan
We had two flukey wins on the road early in conference play and have looked like ass ever sinceExcept, no one is winning on the road in this league at a good clip. I'm not sure how you expected this game to go any different. I would guess we claw back to 5 and then they win by 15.
rough ridin' sloppy ballhandling rears its head again. Cleanup the TOs, ffs. Never win on the road with that many mistakes. Some real wtf TOS in the first half and KU’s patented runs and here we are…

K State fans are so insecure. I saw people on twitter butthurt that Kelce casually watched the game and enjoyed himself in Lawerence.I am quite glad I’m hardly ever exposed to this part of the fan base.
Did Kelce have bodyguards with him at the game? It looked like two very large men were accompanying Kelce as he left his seat at the end of the game. Tomlin needs to get more aggressive specifically at the rim. He makes really good moves, handles the ball great, and then even though he can jump out the stupid gym, he goes up soft and light for finger rolls or little pup shots at the rim. I would love to see him do exactly what he does now to get to the rim, but then get more explosive at the rim. Play to go through the defender.

I don't agree with this. They fought really hard all the way.
I went to the game last night. Admittedly, first time in Allen Fieldhouse.
Game Thoughts:
- I don't know if I've ever seen so many missed dunks and layups in one game.
- Defense did not play well.
- KU had players step up that haven't rest of season. They really wanted this one.
- Officiating was not consistent. Too many fouls.
Overall Allen Fieldhouse Experience:
- Fans were great. You could tell this game meant a lot to them. Lots of booing and even started "little brother" chant. Pretty amazing.
- The place is a dump. At some point you have to give history the middle finger and build a better venue.
- HVAC was all kinds of mumped up. It was in the mid-80's with no air movement. Absolutely miserable.
- Audio was not good. I think their sound system is pretty new, but unfortunately difficult to hear and understand the PA announcer.
- Intro video was overhyped. A few of my KU coworkers have stated to me that the intro video sets the tone and is the best experience in the Arena. Possibly the best intro video at any sporting venue. Well friends, that is debunked because it was nothing special. I was expecting lights to go out with other cool crap and none of that happened. I actually think I missed the first part of it because it did not draw my attention away from people watching.
The defense is just comically bad at times, some of the worst floor recognition on the defensive end I’ve seen at the P5 level. Even Tang’s sister was saying they look completely lost out there.
KJ at times thinks he’s already in the NBA.
Our “bigs” were no shows, Sills is at rock bottom and Carter did nothing.
Bad night.

Enjoyed this synopsis. I know there has been a lot of gE/general katz hate of AFH but the more I see/read about it it comes increasingly clear it's objectively needs significant overhaul and is part it's prime.
Like I went to Cameron indoor a few years back, and it's a tiny, but super nice high school gym. It's crazy how much these storied places are like, actually fairly meh.

The best team we have had since the rebirth of KSU hoops(NCAA 2 seed, elite 8 participant) got thumped by 17 in the field house. This teams future should not be predicted using last night as a data point. This team looked somewhat less shell-shocked than what we normally see in AFH...

I guess I considered missing a large number of bunnies as a symptom of being shellshocked. We ran some putrid half court offense. And when we did get something good to happen on offense to cut into the lead, KU would drill a three to extend the lead again. The best team we have had since the rebirth of KSU hoops(NCAA 2 seed, elite 8 participant) got thumped by 17 in the field house. Didn’t look shell-shocked at all. Just missed too many bunnies and didn’t force KU to rotate on defense. Bilas was harping on our lack of ball reversals all night, and he was right. Too many one pass or no pass possessions trying to score of first action.

After looking at the box score I thought it was borderline criminal that Cam only played 19 minutes.

I though he looked good offensively, but if I were to guess I'd bet he was probably lost defensively.
It seemed like whenever the referees would make an awful call, we would spend the next 2 or 3 possessions doing something stupid to completely negate any run that we would go on.
