NCAA teams sponsored by adidas will wear short-sleeve uniforms in the NCAA Tournament.

OMG
-
Why would any recruit ever go to an Adidas school?
-
WOOF, i mean right guys? WOOF.
-
all joking aside, i can't imagine those skin tight short sleeves don't affect their shooting abilities. t's and p's.
-
Humiliated by your skinny pud arms? ADIDAS!
-
When I was in grade school, we had t-shirts for basketball uniforms and they didn't really seem to make it harder to shoot or anything.
-
Humiliated by your skinny pud arms? ADIDAS!
Is that why Spradling always wears a t-shirt under his shirt? Serious question. TIA.
-
I think he probably has some backne :frown:
-
I always just assumed Sprads was a Patrick Ewing fan.
-
Michigan was like "wut, lol no"
-
I just assumed Spradling is trying to be as white- and unathletic-looking as possible.

Expect to see adidas roll out its new short-sleeve basketball jerseys around a handful of its teams during the men's NCAA Tournament. adidas vice president/global basketball Lawrence Norman confirmed that some teams during March Madness will be wearing short-sleeve jerseys similar to those worn recently by the Golden State Warriors, but would not specify which schools.
"We are still working on teams, but it will be a very innovative story," Norman said.
No. 10-ranked Louisville has been told that it will be one of eight men’s basketball teams to wear specially designed jerseys during the postseason and that an announcement is tentatively planned for later this week. Louisville spokesperson Kenny Klein said the school has not been given specifics on the jerseys yet.
Officials at Michigan and N.C. State, two other adidas schools in position to make the NCAA tournament, said they will not wear short-sleeve jerseys, while Indiana said it has not heard from adidas on any special jerseys. Three women's basketball teams are also expected to sport special adidas uniforms during the postseason.
Here is a full list of adidas-sponsored college teams.

Notre Dame is getting camo uniforms, but the teaser picture from Twitter makes it unclear whether they will have sleeves.
-
all joking aside, i can't imagine those skin tight short sleeves don't affect their shooting abilities. t's and p's.
Jake's HS team had sleeve uniforms. Looked ridiculous, very ugly (prior to his K-State sexifying)
-
If someone ever tried to make Martavious wear sleeves I would walk up to them and kick them in the dick 17 times in a row.
-
Nike's dominance has made them lose their mind.
-
I personally think both Nike and adidas uniforms range from okay to horrible. Schools like Indiana, KU, UCLA, michigan, and notre dame aren't going to change the style of their standard jersey all that much anyway so it really doesn't matter who makes them. I seriously doubt KU or michigan or indiana is going to come out in this new jersey for the tournament but of course I could be wrong.
-
Yeah no way a big time program changes their uni's. Especially one that could affect shooting.

Disgusting.

If Adidas offers extra cash to a school like KU to wear the sleeves, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they agreed. These past few football seasons have really done a number on your athletic budget, and you have a track to move.

The big questions will be: how quickly can WalMart stock their shelves with sleeved KU jerseys?

and I know a guy who is taking Sports Marketing at KU. The intern he is 95% sure KU is going to wear them and they are in Lawrence right now, pictures will be leaked during the Big 12 tournament if they aren't worn during it.
I also went to h.s. with a guy who's sports marketing teacher at KU said they are going to wear them.
Its going to happen.

my wife is a KSU grad as is pretty much her entire family and half our friends. I wore it to a fiesta bowl watch party. I'll always support KSU when it doesn't involve KU.
I also bought two different KSU outfits for my 2 month old daughter fwiw. It won't bother me a bit if she's a KSU fan.

did you see the game that they broke them out? When I saw the pics two weeks ago I thought they looked very stupid, thought differently when I saw them worn in beautiful HD.
-
The Warriors went from the best unis in the NBA to the worst in one night.
-
The two tones of yellow are worse than the sleeves, IMO.
But still sleeves blow.
-
Looks silly with the shorts. Baggy shorts with tight tops. Not advocating for tight shorts, but they look silly together.
-
Yeah, I was watching a game that they were wearing them last Saturday night with some guys and we all pretty much agreed they were the worst basketball uniforms ever. Mismatched yellows? Pinstriped shorts? Sleeves? Weird mock V collar? Woof.
-
those uniforms are the worst i've ever seen.
-
Imagining *insert 7 foot tall skinny as hell Baylor freshman with no muslce tone here* wearing a highlighter yellow/mustard yellow sleeved shirt/baggy short combination...

The Pinstriped shorts wouldn't have been as bad if it wasn't paired with a goddamn soccer jersey of a different color. Very 90s NBA, which is the best era in NBA uniforms ever.

ku spends a lot of money. I don't think anyone is worried about it in the long run. Otherwise they wouldn't be building a completely new athletic complex, renovating the football stadium, and building a new addition to AFH. KSU should probably look at spending a lot more money if they want to keep up. getting weber his own plane would be a good start.
-
Fully agree that we should be spending more. Should be looking to basically break even every year, imo.

had a cousin working for nike in oregon in marketing, she said they can't even consider adidas a rival in america anymore. mainly because of stupid crap like this. europe, obviously is a bit more of a battleground, but she said most of their big changes in american sports have resulted in big losses for them.
can't wait for MARCH MADNESS NOW :excited:

so what are you going to do with the profits? put it in the bank for when Weber's poor recruiting ruins the program? you give the guy every advantage you can IMO. He needs to bring in talent, especially a good 2 or 3 and a 4 that can shoot plus defend the post.

We are using them to build a limestone castle on the west end of the football field and a basketball training facility.

what profits are you talking about? i assume you mean cash saved by flying commercial. maybe you haven't seen what's going on in our AD right now. that wouldn't surprise me because earlier you incorrectly said that KU has begun work on memorial.
bottom line is that the kid he's visiting isn't going to know or care how the eff oscar got to his gym. rick barnes flies commercial all the time, has it hurt UT? what are they doing with their profits?

imo he's got a few and with his offense it seems to me that he needs a SG/Wing and quality stretch 4 ideally. any decent PG can run that system but can you put Gipson at the 4 and still be effective? I don't think so but what do I know? :dunno: ;) I'm not sure how closely you followed Illinois but I watched them quite a bit and I always thought they needed shooters at 2,3,4 to be effective. If his 1 and 5 could score it was icing on the cake but not as important.

he's not a sock of anyone. you may know him better as oneuponaggie from way back. wore oakleys on a lanyard iirc.

You can't fly recruits in on a private plane. A coach can get places on a Private plane, but Cheyenne Zulu stated that ku had cut back on their private plane usage significantly because of budget concerns. "Lew is Building a Monster" left that place in financial shambles.
We all know K-State has a private jet and the athletic department uses it from time to time.
SD, I stand corrected.

LHCBS gets to use our private plane to go on vacation. What is that costing the taxpayers???????? :shakesfist:

but barnes recruits well, weber is great at x's and o's and has had some issues recruiting. I'd think that instead of running a major profit this year KSU should throw as much money into helping weber recruit as possible. pay off a couple more blue chippers perhaps? ;)
-
Yeah, I was watching a game that they were wearing them last Saturday night with some guys and we all pretty much agreed they were the worst basketball uniforms ever. Mismatched yellows? Pinstriped shorts? Sleeves? Weird mock V collar? Woof.
The Pinstriped shorts wouldn't have been as bad if it wasn't paired with a goddamn soccer jersey of a different color. Very 90s NBA, which is the best era in NBA uniforms ever.

I don't think Weber's problems recruiting have as much to do with being able to sell the program as they do with talent evaluation, tbqh. He told Jacob Pullen that he wasn't good enough to play for Illinois, and he signed Orris, then told Gray to hit the road to Tech.

I don't know how you can say that with a straight face. KU changes their uniforms often and they are not minor or subtle alterations. To lump them in with an Indiana or UCLA in that regard is ridiculous.

Tech is Tech, able to screw up anything with very little effort. It's their destiny.

Guys, my 4 year old just saw a picture of those jerseys. Can't stop crying. Can't go to sleep. It's awful. Now whenever she looks at the computer she just starts screaming and telling the monster to go away. Really tragic experience for everyone involved.

i was going to tweet something to this effect after seeing their football jerseys the other day but thought better of it because it was a pretty absurd thing to wonder about in that medium. so i'm glad you brought it up here. i'd only like to add that their mascot is essentially a cowboy which should be just about the easiest thing in the world to brand. Yet their new football jerseys are just lackluster. they're not horrible (although i hate the alternative logos on the helmets), but with red and black, they could do a lot better. under armor has let them down in a big way imo.
those bball jerseys are great though. love the fadey stripes on the side.

The adizero uniform system gives players the leading performance technology with a distinctive on-court style,” said Chris McGuire, adidas Director of Sports Marketing. "The NCAA postseason brings together the best teams in the country and these uniforms celebrate the excitement of the game letting players stand out during college basketball’s biggest moments. These programs will wear the most innovative basketball uniforms and footwear to help them elevate their game during the most important time of the year.”
Designed for a bold on-court look and engineered to enhance player performance by improving fit, comfort and mobility, the adizero short sleeve uniform system is made from 60 percent recycled materials and features FORMOTION technology for comfort and maximum mobility during shooting and dribbling. Jersey armhole insets with 360-degree stretch fabric promote free range of motion for the arms and shoulders.
Both sets of uniforms feature adidas’ quick drying Revolution 30 technology found in current NBA uniforms and ClimaCool zones which move heat and moisture away from the body to keep the jersey light and dry during heavy sweating. The super-lightweight woven short is designed for improved breathability and a closer, more comfortable fit with compression base layers.

They are going to be wearing whites all the way to the elite 8 and maybe even final 4. I wouldn't get too worked up about it unless they are going to wear those shorts regardless. They probably won't make it that far.

gE.c will build up your immunity to such discourse. You're welcome

KU should just embrace this to the fullest. Bill should wear a Zubaz suit during tournament games.

I'm all for these unis if HCBS wears a zubaz suit during games. That would be amazing.

That'll just take his stud status to a whole new level

If ku fans don't roll with a "this is the coolest thing ever" mindset then I'll be extremely disappointed.

Those guys are hardline with their facts. This baby is gonna have to be born/worn before they believe it.

If you are going to wear the zubaz shorts you might as well go all-in with the sleeved shirts
-
do you guys think they got such a bad reaction from the sleeved shirts that they decided to make the shorts even worse so nobody cared about the sleeves anymore?
-
The adizero uniform system gives players the leading performance technology with a distinctive on-court style,” said Chris McGuire, adidas Director of Sports Marketing. "The NCAA postseason brings together the best teams in the country and these uniforms celebrate the excitement of the game letting players stand out during college basketball’s biggest moments.
Except Baylor won't be in the NCAA postseason.

i wish k-state would get the new nike uniforms. those are awesome looking, imo.

If K-State started wearing zubaz unis, I would probably buy one from Varneys and start wearing it around Manhattan.
-
If KU was smart, they would demand a red based uni rather than blue. They would convert half of KC in one off season.

Some Adidas promotional photos surfaced online on Thursday, featuring a Kansas version of the jersey along with others from Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Baylor, UCLA and Louisville. (KU has a licensing contract with the shoe company.)
But a Kansas official said Thursday the final decision on the jerseys rests with the school — and no decision had been made as of Thursday.
"There's been some talk internally," said associate athletic director Jim Marchiony. "But we haven't made a final determination."

I would like to voice my concern over the possibility that KU may be wearing Adidas alternate uniforms during the 2013 NCAA Tournament. I fully understand and appreciate the business relationship with Adidas and its value to KU but KU is above the gimmicks that schools like Baylor, Cincinnati and Louisville must employ to garner attention. I urge you to deny any request or demand by Adidas that KU wear these uniforms during the 2013 NCAA tournament.
Thank you for your time.

Adida's did not hand ku $30 million in cash. You can play all kinds of fun with numbers on those deals, and Lew Perkins did, because that's what Lew did best, and the reason why he's sitting at home smoking big cigars spending ku's money.

Nice try.
Officials on Sunday announced an eight-year sponsorship and product-allowance agreement with adidas worth $26.67 million, which breaks out to about $3.33 million per year through 2013.
KU previously was tied to Nike, though the contract only covered football and basketball. That deal, worth $650,000 annually, expires June 30.

I'm going to round KState's up shitloads to make us look like super studs
-
I like how Beems is playing this off like he doesn't understand what the difference is between rounding up and rounding down in this situation.
-
this is really when i enjoy oregonbmwsmockhawk the most
-
if this was the price is right belvis would be in the showcase showdown and beems would still be sitting down on losers row
-
Well I am over my despair of these uniforms. Since they are getting worn for the Big XII tourney I am taking gE advice and rolling with it.
ZUUUUUUUUUBBBBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's the only way to take it, really.
THUNDER! Zoo ooo ooo ooooh ooo oo oooooh baz THUNDER!
-
Guys he lives 6.4 miles from Nike, I think he gets rounding.
-
beems says $30, belvis says $25, beems tells him "nice try" and throws the actual figure of $26.67 in his face. makes sense?
By The Price Is Right rules, Belvis totally won that round and is walking from Contestants Row toward the Plinko board as we speak.

I live about four to five miles from Nike headquarters.
Nike headquarters is literally 6.4 miles from my house.
I just don't know who to trust anymore.

it's pretty sad that nike doesn't think enough of King oscar to give us some great gear for the tourney. that is, if we make it.

i wonder aloud if the jerseys are sleeve optional. i think the sleeves would make them look more elite imho
-

They should have made the jerseys with velcro sleeves that can be added or removed at the player's discretion. The biggest studs would probably roll with one sleeve.

They would look better for sure, but they would chafe too much for my liking.

Sorry about those hideous unis. Sorry your school sold out to Adidas. I'm sure you'll look great in the zubaz shorts.

It should be a technical foul if a player zips on two sleeves from another school onto his uniform to try to fool the other team into passing him the ball.

But after games in a show of good sportsmanship players from other teams could trade sleeves. Would be fantastic.

I would coach my guys to pay attention to the entirety of the jersey and not just the sleeves part to make sure we aren't turning it over 24/7/365.

yes, confirmed

That jersey is nice, but the white shorts don't allow the Zubazziness to come out like the blue shorts do.
-
Seems like a good trade off...look awesome for most of the tournament...only look like ass when playing in a reg. or nat. championship. :dunno:

I was kinda disappointed when I found out 2 live crew wasn't getting back together after I saw those.

Adidas doesn't tell KU what to wear.

And by the way, I've heard rumors that KU is going to go Nike next year once our adidas contract is done.
that's great news for you guys Beems. trust me. Nike is elite.
I live about four to five miles from Nike headquarters. Believe me... I know.
I thought you lived in Corvallis? HQ is in Beaverton.
Nope. Nike headquarters is literally 6.4 miles from my house.
Damn. Must be nice.
When you live that close to a company's HQ, you're like an honorary board member, you practically. Insiders news like you would not believe.

I guess this is one of those "any press is good press" situations. I mean can Adidas really stand behind these and be like "yea these are pretty fuckin' sweet" ? Cause they're not...and now Beems and other EMAJ fans are embracing it just so it doesn't hurt as much.
Will be happy times in Larryville if and when a Nike contract is announced.
-
The thing is they have options, like a full on bidding war, basically. Except where the bidding war results in not getting what you want.
-
Apparently KU fans are in tears over these new jerseys and are petitioning Obama to let them hide from it:
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/stop-kansas-basketball-wearing-new-uniforms-proposed-adidas/8lmsVMgs?utm_source=wh.gov&utm_medium=shorturl&utm_campaign=shorturl
I took it upon my self, in the spirit of EMAW to create a better petition to serve the needs of Kansans and the Merican nation:
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/force-university-kansas-permanantely-wear-new-adidas-striped-jerseys-may-it-be-mark-their-shame/3KTmZ4w0
Feel free to sign it multiple times, there is no way that Kansas had 500 fans smart enough to use such a high level of internet. Hopefully we will have more signatures than they do. Then the delicous tears will really flow.

if I was the coach i'd leave all my starters at home and let the coaches kids and other scrubs play. ksu can have that waste of time and energy if they want it.
conference tournaments are chances for scrub teams to improve their seeding or make the tournament. i hope we lose in the first round and get some practice time before the real deal starts.

Don't be this KU fan. KU fans want titles, all titles, every title ever. KU fans know that the Hawks would win every conference regular season and conference tourney title if the powers that be would let them.

You know Adidas would love nothing more than KU to shock the world and come out wearing the blue 'baz in Waco vs. Baylor in their highlighter yellows on the last game of the conference regular season on ESPN. Viewers would need

The only reason big bro is an adidas school is because adidas wanted big bro's nuts really bad and decided to pay big bro $30+ million to wear their shitty uniforms. lil bro's contract with Nike is laughable compared to big bro.
And by the way, I've heard rumors that KU is going to go Nike next year once our adidas contract is done.

So Adidas is paying ku $30 million in cash and providing the uniforms and equipment? (highly doubtful) Or, is the deal worth about $30 million and like all other deals like this, that dollar amount includes the value of all the uniforms and equipment PLUS cash?

My niece is on a women's varsity team at KU, and she said that Adidas shoveled shoes, jerseys, bags, and all sorts of crap at her each month. She doesn't even know what to do with all the stuff, except to donate it to Goodwill. I'm pretty sure that Adidas is passing this gear off to KU, and including the full retail price of the gear as meeting their contract obligation to KU. I would say Ebay, but the auctions fees would probably be preventative given that there is no way she could get more than $15 for new Adidas shoes. Maybe find a store in the really run down section of town and try to barter? :dunno:

The story illustrates the fact that ku isn't having to buy vacuum cleaners to pick up all that money from Adidas, that a substantial portion of it is not money, but Adidas gear that is largely going to waste. My apologies for not casting that narrative in color-by-numbers simplicity that you could understand.

Bill should have praised those unis rather than saying how much he hated them and how he was simply doing adidas a favor by wearing them in one exhibition post season game in Kansas City.
Michigan owned those ugly fuckers and look at them. Not only did they do better in the tourney, but they are getting much more cash and product. I bet Adidas isn't even counting MSRP for their merch sent to Michigan. They probs get all that money and a discount like a Foot Locker or some other mall store that used to be cool would.

Found my answer:
http://of $26 million in cash and merchandise through 2019.
The Jayhawks will receive $10 million in cash and slightly more than $16 million in products over the next six years,
Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/2013/06/06/4277949/kansas-athletics-renews-its-deal.html#storylink=cpy
I also suspect that Adidas wants to value the products at full MSRP as well.
That Lew sure is a shrewd dealmaker.
Yeah, getting tons of free gear as an athlete must suck hard.
The story illustrates the fact that ku isn't having to buy vacuum cleaners to pick up all that money from Adidas, that a substantial portion of it is not money, but Adidas gear that is largely going to waste. My apologies for not casting that narrative in color-by-numbers simplicity that you could understand.
$26 million in cash and equipment is a lot more than what K-State's deal with Nike is worth. Just seems like you guys are really butthurt about everything related to KU.

ku just took on another $39 million dollars in debt with Rock Chalk Park and K-State already has millions on account to help pay down the debt. Over 2/3's of K-State's debt has gone towards projects that are pure revenue producers, as in the bonds built things that by their existence produce revenue; suites, stadium clubs, additional seats in the football stadium. ku has plowed millions of dollars of their debt into items that by themselves do not produce any revenue.

Beems, why does Adidas view KU as second class to those two blue bloods? Doesn't seem nice. Especially after bill did them such a huge favor as wearing those god awful unis one them trashing them in the media immediately afterward. After all, no pub is bad pub.

Like I've pointed out multiple times in this thread, KU's contract is worth $26+ million over 6 years, good for the 3rd-best sports apparel contract in the country. I know it kills you, but for once in your life, accept reality.

When I read the words "pay" "paying" "paid" . . . in sentences like "A Company is PAYING B entity X" I think cash transactions, not a percentage of that being cash and the rest being items valued at full MSRP.

Didn't I read somewhere awhile back that Nike has started making Nike Schools sign non-disclosures on the value of their contracts. According to CC or someone, Nike wouldn't allow K-State to disclose the value of the latest contract.

In press conference, Currie claimed we have a "long term contract with Nike, an important partner in the basketball world."
Just FYI, K-State did re-sign with Nike this spring. Nike has requested that schools no longer do press releases regarding these deals.

I did the escrow for that transaction. The cash transfer was $26.01 million over 5 years and 364 days, but here's the kicker, kstate gets $135.39 million in apparral (msrp of course) and $789.39 even in posters and Michael Jordan Cologne (salvage value, not original msrp).
Apparently its the 16th best apparel contract in sports. No rough ridin' clue what beams is talking about with that pud contract being the 3rd best. Its actually 89th, 20 spots higher than the Ku football program so still a good deal.

Yep. Nike is lucky they re upped when they did. If we had 3MAW already during negotiations, we would have broke them.

Here's the real question, how much would Adidas have to pay us to get us to wear their stuff? Couple billion at least.

The new contract might be closer to something like $16 million over 6 years, but I doubt it increased by much more than that. Nike doesn't pay like adidas does (and rightly so, because even I'll admit, Nike is the superior brand).

I guess i'm just waiting for adidas to come out with something truly unique or original like the pro combat line instead of restarting production from 1986 and openly naming it 'original'.

maybe we should do KU a favor and take that $60M and buy out their contract with adidas so the state of Kansas stops looking bad?
It's pretty embarrassing. Everyone's trying to market the state of Kansas as the basketball state, and it's really sad to think of people's reactions nationwide when they turn on their TVs and see that. Listen, I studied psychology in college, and in the average person's mind K-State, KU and Wichita State are all stored together in their memory. So when people associate those jerseys with KU, they're basically associating them with us.

I agree. as they make their way through the most marketable programs in Kansas in their minds, they think Wichita State- nike, cool. Kansas State- nike, awesome. Kansas University- adidas. ugh, gross, yucky cursive writing and camouflage. :barf:
we need to help if we want the proud state of Kansas to be an elite basketball state. we have to become solely nike schools. lets stop beating this dead horse (what KU jerseys look like except rotting and smelly) and think of solutions. anyone got an idea? I don't know if simply throwing our fat stacks of cash will help.
-
I think they're okay looking. :dunno: Not like cool or anything but not gross either. :dunno: :dunno:

this may seriously be the dumbest thing I have ever read in my life
Oh. Oh no. Aside from the absurdity of putting an attack command normally associated with dogs on a college basketball jersey, the “Sic ‘Em Bears” slogan is in especially poor taste given past issues in Baylor’s basketball program. Sure,”Sic ‘Em” is an old school slogan and the aforementioned scandal happened years ago, but it’s a connection people outside Waco will immediately make when they see the jerseys.
I mean what the hell is that? People will make a connection between sic em and a dude shooting someone else? Is sic em a command white people use when hunting or something? WTF is this dude getting at?

Baylor's "Sic 'Em" jerseys violate NCAA policy specifically and good taste generally.

Still hate the Wisconsin reds because they look like an odd 1950s swimsuit.
Not a fan of these Duke unis. The fade on the sides at times looks like a stain like someone washed a blue shirt with their white unis.

I had to google cummerbund because of wisconsin's uniforms. So at least I learned something.
