Expect to see adidas roll out its new short-sleeve basketball jerseys around a handful of its teams during the men's NCAA Tournament. adidas vice president/global basketball Lawrence Norman confirmed that some teams during March Madness will be wearing short-sleeve jerseys similar to those worn recently by the Golden State Warriors, but would not specify which schools.

"We are still working on teams, but it will be a very innovative story," Norman said.

No. 10-ranked Louisville has been told that it will be one of eight men’s basketball teams to wear specially designed jerseys during the postseason and that an announcement is tentatively planned for later this week. Louisville spokesperson Kenny Klein said the school has not been given specifics on the jerseys yet.

Officials at Michigan and N.C. State, two other adidas schools in position to make the NCAA tournament, said they will not wear short-sleeve jerseys, while Indiana said it has not heard from adidas on any special jerseys. Three women's basketball teams are also expected to sport special adidas uniforms during the postseason.

Here is a full list of adidas-sponsored college teams.

Title: Re: Adidas Teams
Post by: cork_sniffer on February 27, 2013, 10:18:50 AM
I personally think both Nike and adidas uniforms range from okay to horrible.  Schools like Indiana, KU, UCLA, michigan, and notre dame aren't going to change the style of their standard jersey all that much anyway so it really doesn't matter who makes them.  I seriously doubt KU or michigan or indiana is going to come out in this new jersey for the tournament but of course I could be wrong.

I also bought two different KSU outfits for my 2 month old daughter fwiw.  It won't bother me a bit if she's a KSU fan.

The Pinstriped shorts wouldn't have been as bad if it wasn't paired with a goddamn soccer jersey of a different color. Very 90s NBA, which is the best era in NBA uniforms ever.

ku spends a lot of money.  I don't think anyone is worried about it in the long run.  Otherwise they wouldn't be building a completely new athletic complex, renovating the football stadium, and building a new addition to AFH.  KSU should probably look at spending a lot more money if they want to keep up.  getting weber his own plane would be a good start.

so what are your worried about?

I'm not worried about anything, our net revenues over the last 3 years are in the tens of millions of dollars . . . from an operational revenue/expense standpoint, it appears that ku athletics finished FY 2012 about $8.7 million in the hole.

ku spends a lot of money.  I don't think anyone is worried about it in the long run.  Otherwise they wouldn't be building a completely new athletic complex, renovating the football stadium, and building a new addition to AFH.  KSU should probably look at spending a lot more money if they want to keep up.  getting weber his own plane would be a good start.

you haven't even seen our new rowing facility construction have you :kstategrad:

had a cousin working for nike in oregon in marketing, she said they can't even consider adidas a rival in america anymore. mainly because of stupid crap like this. europe, obviously is a bit more of a battleground, but she said most of their big changes in american sports have resulted in big losses for them.

what about a 1 and a 5?

imo he's got a few and with his offense it seems to me that he needs a SG/Wing and quality stretch 4 ideally.  any decent PG can run that system but can you put Gipson at the 4 and still be effective?  I don't think so but what do I know?   :dunno:   ;)  I'm not sure how closely you followed Illinois but I watched them quite a bit and I always thought they needed shooters at 2,3,4 to be effective.   If his 1 and 5 could score it was icing on the cake but not as important.

You can't fly recruits in on a private plane.   A coach can get places on a Private plane, but Cheyenne Zulu stated that ku had cut back on their private plane usage significantly because of budget concerns.   "Lew is Building a Monster" left that place in financial shambles.

We all know K-State has a private jet and the athletic department uses it from time to time.

SD, I stand corrected.

Yeah, I was watching a game that they were wearing them last Saturday night with some guys and we all pretty much agreed they were the worst basketball uniforms ever.  Mismatched yellows? Pinstriped shorts? Sleeves? Weird mock V collar?  Woof.

The Pinstriped shorts wouldn't have been as bad if it wasn't paired with a goddamn soccer jersey of a different color. Very 90s NBA, which is the best era in NBA uniforms ever.

I don't think Weber's problems recruiting have as much to do with being able to sell the program as they do with talent evaluation, tbqh. He told Jacob Pullen that he wasn't good enough to play for Illinois, and he signed Orris, then told Gray to hit the road to Tech.

Hey friends, just talked to EMADUB. He's as steamed as Jesus was when he found out people were gambling in the temples. Apparently the MCC server won't let him open this thread because of the inappropriate pictures. Can we just put up the links to the jerseys and let people click on them at their own risk? Honestly, you can't unsee those.

I don't know how you can say that with a straight face.  KU changes their uniforms often and they are not minor or subtle alterations.  To lump them in with an Indiana or UCLA in that regard is ridiculous.

i was going to tweet something to this effect after seeing their football jerseys the other day but thought better of it because it was a pretty absurd thing to wonder about in that medium.  so i'm glad you brought it up here.  i'd only like to add that their mascot is essentially a cowboy which should be just about the easiest thing in the world to brand.  Yet their new football jerseys are just lackluster.  they're not horrible (although i hate the alternative logos on the helmets), but with red and black, they could do a lot better.  under armor has let them down in a big way imo.

those bball jerseys are great though.  love the fadey stripes on the side.

The adizero uniform system gives players the leading performance technology with a distinctive on-court style,” said Chris McGuire, adidas Director of Sports Marketing. "The NCAA postseason brings together the best teams in the country and these uniforms celebrate the excitement of the game letting players stand out during college basketball’s biggest moments. These programs will wear the most innovative basketball uniforms and footwear to help them elevate their game during the most important time of the year.”

Designed for a bold on-court look and engineered to enhance player performance by improving fit, comfort and mobility, the adizero short sleeve uniform system is made from 60 percent recycled materials and features FORMOTION technology for comfort and maximum mobility during shooting and dribbling. Jersey armhole insets with 360-degree stretch fabric promote free range of motion for the arms and shoulders.

Both sets of uniforms feature adidas’ quick drying Revolution 30 technology found in current NBA uniforms and ClimaCool zones which move heat and moisture away from the body to keep the jersey light and dry during heavy sweating. The super-lightweight woven short is designed for improved breathability and a closer, more comfortable fit with compression base layers.

No, it's saying that KU decided to participate in the crappy uniform thing with the other adidas schools.

Why would a school with the stature of ku voluntarily participate in anything that is known as crappy?

Probably because KU can make a shitload of money from selling those crappy uniforms.

The only reason big bro is an adidas school is because adidas wanted big bro's nuts really bad and decided to pay big bro $30+ million to wear their shitty uniforms.  lil bro's contract with Nike is laughable compared to big bro.

Adida's did not hand ku $30 million in cash.   You can play all kinds of fun with numbers on those deals, and Lew Perkins did, because that's what Lew did best, and the reason why he's sitting at home smoking big cigars spending ku's money.

Nice try.

Quote
Officials on Sunday announced an eight-year sponsorship and product-allowance agreement with adidas worth $26.67 million, which breaks out to about $3.33 million per year through 2013.

KU previously was tied to Nike, though the contract only covered football and basketball. That deal, worth $650,000 annually, expires June 30.

It should be a technical foul if a player zips on two sleeves from another school onto his uniform to try to fool the other team into passing him the ball.

Apparently KU fans are in tears over these new jerseys and are petitioning Obama to let them hide from it:

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/stop-kansas-basketball-wearing-new-uniforms-proposed-adidas/8lmsVMgs?utm_source=wh.gov&utm_medium=shorturl&utm_campaign=shorturl

I took it upon my self, in the spirit of EMAW to create a better petition to serve the needs of Kansans and the Merican nation:

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/force-university-kansas-permanantely-wear-new-adidas-striped-jerseys-may-it-be-mark-their-shame/3KTmZ4w0

Feel free to sign it multiple times, there is no way that Kansas had 500 fans smart enough to use such a high level of internet. Hopefully we will have more signatures than they do. Then the delicous tears will really flow.

Self said KU wouldn't wear the jerseys after the Big 12 tournament, meaning the NCAA tourney is safe from the wild designs.

Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/2013/02/28/4092071/will-kansas-wear-those-wild-adidas.html#storylink=cpy

sorry guys.  just wearing them for a game or two in the exhibition tourney.

Atleast you understand they wont win the B12 tourny

if I was the coach i'd leave all my starters at home and let the coaches kids and other scrubs play.  ksu can have that waste of time and energy if they want it.

conference tournaments are chances for scrub teams to improve their seeding or make the tournament.  i hope we lose in the first round and get some practice time before the real deal starts.

Don't be this KU fan.  KU fans want titles, all titles, every title ever. KU fans know that the Hawks would win every conference regular season and conference tourney title if the powers that be would let them.

You know Adidas would love nothing more than KU to shock the world and come out wearing the blue 'baz in Waco vs. Baylor in their highlighter yellows on the last game of the conference regular season on ESPN.  Viewers would need

The only reason big bro is an adidas school is because adidas wanted big bro's nuts really bad and decided to pay big bro $30+ million to wear their shitty uniforms.  lil bro's contract with Nike is laughable compared to big bro.

And by the way, I've heard rumors that KU is going to go Nike next year once our adidas contract is done.

So Adidas is paying ku $30 million in cash and providing the uniforms and equipment?  (highly doubtful) Or, is the deal worth about $30 million and like all other deals like this, that dollar amount includes the value of all the uniforms and equipment PLUS cash?

The story illustrates the fact that ku isn't having to buy vacuum cleaners to pick up all that money from Adidas, that a substantial portion of it is not money, but Adidas gear that is largely going to waste.  My apologies for not casting that narrative in color-by-numbers simplicity that you could understand.

Bill should have praised those unis rather than saying how much he hated them and how he was simply doing adidas a favor by wearing them in one exhibition post season game in Kansas City.

Michigan owned those ugly fuckers and look at them.  Not only did they do better in the tourney, but they are getting much more cash and product.  I bet Adidas isn't even counting MSRP for their merch sent to Michigan.  They probs get all that money and a discount like a Foot Locker or some other mall store that used to be cool would.

ku just took on another $39 million dollars in debt with Rock Chalk Park and K-State already has millions on account to help pay down the debt.   Over 2/3's of K-State's debt has gone towards projects that are pure revenue producers, as in the bonds built things that by their existence produce revenue; suites, stadium clubs, additional seats in the football stadium.   ku has plowed millions of dollars of their debt into items that by themselves do not produce any revenue.

I did the escrow for that transaction.  The cash transfer was $26.01 million over 5 years and 364 days, but here's the kicker, kstate gets $135.39 million in apparral (msrp of course) and $789.39 even in posters and Michael Jordan Cologne (salvage value, not original msrp).

Apparently its the 16th best apparel contract in sports.  No rough ridin' clue what beams is talking about with that pud contract being the 3rd best.  Its actually 89th, 20 spots higher than the Ku football program so still a good deal.

It's pretty embarrassing. Everyone's trying to market the state of Kansas as the basketball state, and it's really sad to think of people's reactions nationwide when they turn on their TVs and see that. Listen, I studied psychology in college, and in the average person's mind K-State, KU and Wichita State are all stored together in their memory. So when people associate those jerseys with KU, they're basically associating them with us.

I agree. as they make their way through the most marketable programs in Kansas in their minds, they think Wichita State- nike, cool. Kansas State- nike, awesome. Kansas University- adidas. ugh, gross, yucky cursive writing and camouflage. :barf:

we need to help if we want the proud state of Kansas to be an elite basketball state. we have to become solely nike schools. lets stop beating this dead horse (what KU jerseys look like except rotting and smelly) and think of solutions. anyone got an idea? I don't know if simply throwing our fat stacks of cash will help.

Shut up about the grays. Don't go there. My favorite uni.

They are awful, especially compared to these:

Does anybody really like a pinstripe like look on basketball uniforms?  Also, do KU fans really prefer being an Adidas school over Nike?

Those KU pinstripes are awful. AWFUL.

These are the only bball pinstripe unis that I've ever liked. BTW, they were great in the 90's and should stay there forever.

Oh. Oh no. Aside from the absurdity of putting an attack command normally associated with dogs on a college basketball jersey, the “Sic ‘Em Bears” slogan is in especially poor taste given past issues in Baylor’s basketball program. Sure,”Sic ‘Em” is an old school slogan and the aforementioned scandal happened years ago, but it’s a connection people outside Waco will immediately make when they see the jerseys.

I mean what the hell is that? People will make a connection between sic em and a dude shooting someone else? Is sic em a command white people use when hunting or something? WTF is this dude getting at?
