Title: race for the big12 championship (week of 9-29-2012)
Post by: Dr Rick Daris on September 26, 2012, 01:10:28 PM
now that we're frontrunners for this thing, we should prob start keeping track of other games that might come into play down the stretch. i listed the games below and think i did a pretty great job breaking them down, but feel free to weigh in with any other additional thoughts.

baylor at wvu (-12.5) 11am FX *can baylor make this a game? idk, i mean they almost came into mhk and won last year. no rg3 though this year. do they have an rg4? again, idk but this game might go quite a ways in trying to help decide that.

texas (-2.5) at osu  650pm FOX *this should be quite the game. orange vs orange. who is the fairest orange of them all? i don't know. do the pokies have the offensive weapons to quick strike the bevos? i think they might you guys. can they rattle the texas qb guy? maybe/probably?

it would not shock me at all to see texas and wv lose this weekend. still scared to death by texas tech for some odd reason. hopefully we just keep winning and other teams knock each other out of it

Dream scenario: Texas beats WVU, then loses to OU. Everyone in this thing has one loss right off the bat, and we're sitting pretty about to hand them their second loss. Less pressure, less anxiety, just pure domination.

They've got the potential to shock a lot of people. I watched them in person at the Texas State game and they look a lot faster and more athletic than last season. They've got some talent at receiver. Not OU talent, but enough to make life hell for a number of defenses. Plus, their defense is miles better than it was last season. It doesn't matter that they haven't played any really strong teams yet, they've looked like a top 25 team in crushing everyone they've faced. We're lucky we have them in MHK, otherwise this would be my official trap game instead of istate0.

Better dream scenario: Baylor beats WVU, OSU beats Texas, OU doesn't lose another game from here on out.  That way the 11-1 'Cats would go to the Fiesta Bowl or the 12-0 'Cats go to the MNC.

Texas Tech (-2.5) at Iowa State.

Personally, I'm very interested in this game as well.

Why is Tech wearing orange? I'd think that would be more of something that guns up would do.

It assesses the potential threat levels that Tech and istate0 pose to our championship run. That's at least kinda related.

Best dream scenario: Texas beats OSU, OU, and everyone else they play before Dec. 1. Alabama loses and Texas is ranked #1 when we crush them, then we go on to annihilate a shitty FSU squad in the MNC game.

I want to thank Rick for reminding me how fun it was to actively watch other teams and root for them to lose to help us in our title chances.

I can't tell you how many NU and CU games I used to watch (almost as religiously as ours) because of the title implications.

So much fun.

then next weekend, ksu cats have the morning game. after that we get treated to oklahoma at tech 230pm followed up by west virginia at texas 6pm. i'm waiting until next week to break those games down though.

but my god. the kstate vs ku game isn't in the top 4 of games that i actually want to watch in the next two weeks.  what a treat!

Yeah, really thinking about getting an early round of golf in on the 6th.  Maybe tee off at 9:00 to make sure I'm at my favorite bar in time for kickoff of OU @ TTU.

I think he means actual slugs. I wouldn't be too worried about them, though. They are harmless. I've checked the forecast, and thankfully it looks like the players won't have to worry about leeches on Saturday. Leeches are disgusting.

I know WVU struggled against Maryland, but Baylor's defense is just terrible. I like WVU in this one by a couple of TDs.

I'm going with OSU over Texas simply because I always assume Texas is way overrated until proven otherwise.

Who are those teams? It's better for us if Texas and WVU win, but it doesn't really affect us all that much if either of them lose, either.

I think the assumption that david ash still sucks at quarterback is unfair at this point. He went 19/23, 326 yards and 4 tds against ole miss.

well the way i see it is that this is a classic football game of "who can score more points". whoever scores the most will win. can baylor and their new quarterback go in and beat this upstart big12 newbie in their house? maybe. this writer thinks that they certainly have a fighters chance. one thing is for sure though, you'll have to tune in to FX at 11am tomorrow to find out.

well the way i see it is that this is a classic football game of "who can score more points". whoever scores the most will win. can baylor and their new quarterback swagger go in and beat this upstart big12 newbie? maybe. one thing is for sure, you'll have to tune in to FX at 11am tomorrow to find out.

great breakdown rd.  thanks for all you do

well the way i see it is that this is a classic football game of "who can score more points". whoever scores the most will win. can baylor and their new quarterback go in and beat this upstart big12 newbie in their house? maybe. this writer thinks that they certainly have a fighters chance. one thing is for sure though, you'll have to tune in to FX at 11am tomorrow to find out.

can you go game by game and tell me who ksu cat fans should be rooting for?  :crossfingers:

wow what a game huh guys? we (cat fans) we're all pulling for baylor to pull off the upset but guess what? it didn't happen. close but no cigar. now we get a nice little four hour break before firing up the ol' bigscreen for what looks to be a good down home battle for top prize in the land of the orange. it's texas. it's oklahoma state. it's on your television tonight at 6:50 FOX.

ps-we're going for the cowboys you guys. horns down cat fans.

Didn't know they did that before I went to the game last year.  Pretty neat!  It's amazing that people ride on horses.

so, i decided to fire this thread back up do to a recently popular but much worse knock off thread. be sure to check in here for weekly updates about important big12 games and the breakdowns of them.

Week 7

Kansas State at Iowa State   11:00 a.m.   FX (HD)
Oklahoma vs. Texas (Dallas)   11:00 a.m.   ABC (HD)
Oklahoma State at Kansas   2:30 p.m.   FSN Affiliates (HD) / FCSC (cable)
West Virginia at Texas Tech   2:30 p.m.   (ABC (HD) / ESPN (HD)) *7? / ESPN-GP
TCU at Baylor   6:00 p.m.   FSN Affiliates (HD) / FCSC (cable)

We are rooting for:

KSU:  cats vs clones. clones vs cats. throw out the record book when these teams meet.

OU: You cheer first for the teams you have beaten, second for the one's you will play, before everything else

OSU: tsc. go hawks.

TECH: I believe that we DON'T have to beat WVU to win the conference. we want them to lose to teams like tech.

BU/TCU - TOSS UP: Pick your poison.  We recruit against both. Both have a conference loss already.  Personally, I'll root for Baylor to get ranked and TCU to die on the vine.

Still a little bittersweet on the heels of the Baylor game. But had I known we had a title town in the works I would have been a lot more excited.

KSU Wildcats with the press box and Stand Up 2.0 were my favorite moments. Only 1998 and 2000 Nub are ahead of this game in terms of BSFS memories.

It's so rare that even the 2012 game wasn't a conference championship game

Was it the eff up with Baylor/TCU keeping us out of the CFP that caused the start-up of the CCG the next year?
