We briefly talked about it during the season, but it's summer time and we have time to care about trivial (?) matters like this. Play it whenever. Could be a third down thing, could be after the third quarter. Whenever really, but it's a great song for K-State, especially the chorus, and especially the "LADADADADA!"

I love the passion, Dlew, but given your track record with pitching your fantastic ideas (see multiple lazy river variations), do you think it would be wise that we nominate someone else from the board to do the pitching?
Just spitballing here, I'm not saying I would do any better. Just really want to see this happen.

Do that for a couple weeks, then BAM, OSU has a 3rd down and 15 on their own 15 yardline on their first drive of the game, the students are in a frenzy, then all of a sudden you hear "SO YEAH HA!" and they lose their minds.

you don't fist pump until the end. you sway slowly staring at the field/ground for most of the build up. you can slowly raise your head in miniscule increments as the music builds if you like.

You know how the team used huddle up outside the locker room and do that whole, "Purple! Get ready to roll!, Purple! Get ready to roll!. SAY WHHAAAAT?!" before games?
......The percussion section could even do a really bass drum heavy cadence to go with it as we all screamed it super hard and made the opposing teams intimidated and scared.
Anyway...try it out...see what you think

think one of panjakes videos last year had SWP in it. I always meant to make one set to it, but I'm old and have a job and crap.

If it was up to me, we'd axe the band and just hire Gogol B to do every game.
But i think a more realistic option (my dream scenario) would be to play the song during pregame the first few weeks. Get some chatter going among the students ("this song is so weird...what is he saying? 'Start wearing purple?' Oh. Man still though - so weird.") until they become familiar with it and take a shining to it. But ONLY during pregame.
Then, when it's after a Baylor incomplete pass on 2nd and 7 from their own 18 on the first drive of the game, a "so. yeah. ha." belts throughout the stadium and the crowd goes nuts.
After a few more weeks of SWP during games, the band can pick it up. The fans need to be trained first though before the band starts playing it.

Guys I just watched the video again and I still think this is a very good idea.
I was talking to my dad about it last night and he thought the best idea was not to hope that "the suits" (his words) play it over the speakers, but rather, let Tracz do his thing. Do you think the students would know what to do? Would they follow the band's lead? I feel like to appreciate what the band is doing, you have to at least hear the song (and even the video) first to know how nightmarish and fun and booze infused the song is. Would it have the same impact as it would over the speakers? If the band plays it and sings it, will it seem too forced?
I don't really want this to just be another song in the band's regular repertoire a la purple haze, shout it outloud, etc. I want it to be an event. Like jump around.
Is that the right role? What would make everyone go bonkersest?

i would have to think the band's on board. tracz is emaw to the core. he's so emaw he got in trouble for using his musical servants to spell emaw for him. im sure he's down.
i just don't want this thing to fall flat on its face. i want the students to think that going apeshit for this weird polka type song was their idea. otherwise it's going to turn into some weird band inside joke like the family guy theme.
maybe i'm underestimating how many students are familiar with this song.

You just flood campus and aggieville with it via students on goEMAW (or younger goemaws posing as students). Have it played at parties and bars. Print off the Ron image and post it around town/campus with no goEMAW stamp or any other identifying logo. Make shirts, give them away (people go hilariously bananas for free shirts). Make tiny ones and give them to hot girls to wear. Make smedium ones and wear them to the gym. Really, you could pull off this type of operation for a few hundred dollars and 15-20 man hours with the right people in place. You just have to identify a few key influential communicators and opinion makers to target, which shouldn't be that hard.

The real version needs to be played every game during an extended timeout and/or before every game. I barely even care about the band version because I fear we would find a way to POWL it up. It wouldn't sound like the JMU one because we don't have an electric guitar or an electric bass or a badass on a drum set. I mean I guess we have a drum set at hoops games but that's it. We also don't have a super duper cavernous arena where we can clearly hear every word the band is saying.
I guess what I'm saying is we're missing some key ingredients so it needs to be the studio version cranked through our fantastic BSFS speakers. For at least half a season for it to really work.

Obvious solution. The first time SWP graces BSFS, it'll be played by a band alright. That band? Gogol Bordello. PR guy can surprise everyone at the end of the 3rd quarter with a hokey "from the big apple to the little apple" intro. They come out on a rolling stage towed by some vehicle driven by Willie, rock out, get rolled off, and it's the stuff of legends.
At subseqent games, the song is played via video of that performance (audio sweetened if necessary) during the 3rd quarter/4th quarter break. Currie et al can KSTATEO some football clips into the video if that'll make it more copacetic to the BSFS patrons who don't "get it."
Then, if the ksu band can get it together sufficiently, they can take over on occasion.

Finally, the music failed at practice today so for most of the 20 minutes we could hear everything a little better than normal. While that was pretty cool, it also felt a little like being in someone's living room while they were taking a nap in the next room. I just kind of wanted to sit there and not draw too much attention to myself. The music disappeared for good during the Coach Weis song of the day (It's My Life, by Bon Jovi) and instead of just giving up on it, the players carried out the song acapella – or at least they tried to. Not bad. But, fortunately for everyone within ear shot, most didn't know all the words so it faded out.

here's the deal: i don't think there's a lot we can be doing right now (other than continue to be excited about this). either they'll play it over the PA system (like they really should), or the band is going to play it (and hopefully not play it to death a la "shout it out loud") or we're on our own.
if we're on our own, we're going to need a few heroes to start it in the student section and really do this thing organically. which is possible. that's how the first down cheer got started. that's how the OOD got started. that's how we resurrected EMAW. soccer hooligans do much more elaborate chants than what we'll be doing.
if it has to start in the student section, it should be just the chorus over and over and over again:
"Start wearing purple wearing purple,
Start wearing purple for me now
All your sanity and wits they will all vanish, I promise
It's just a matter of time
SO YEAH HA
Start wearing purple wearing purple..."
worst case scenario, just do the chorus three times or so.

Several years ago I emailed the AD suggesting the band play it. I also suggested they play "Wildcat" by Ratatat as our entrance music for basketball games. Never heard back.

here's the deal: i don't think there's a lot we can be doing right now (other than continue to be excited about this). either they'll play it over the PA system (like they really should), or the band is going to play it (and hopefully not play it to death a la "shout it out loud") or we're on our own.
if we're on our own, we're going to need a few heroes to start it in the student section and really do this thing organically. which is possible. that's how the first down cheer got started. that's how the OOD got started. that's how we resurrected EMAW. soccer hooligans do much more elaborate chants than what we'll be doing.
if it has to start in the student section, it should be just the chorus over and over and over again:

SO YEAH HA

worst case scenario, just do the chorus three times or so.
but it's going to take heroes. some EMAW elite is going to have to get bombed on alcohol, get on his buddies' shoulders near the front of the student section, turn around so you're facing the crowd, and just belt it out. it'll be awkward at first, but it should pick up relatively quickly. and you'll look very, very cool and be starting something very special. it will be iconic. a student should jump at this opportunity.
that's the worst case scenario, and it's really not so bad.

But i think a more realistic option (my dream scenario) would be to play the song during pregame the first few weeks. Get some chatter going among the students ("this song is so weird...what is he saying? 'Start wearing purple?' Oh. Man still though - so weird.") until they become familiar with it and take a shining to it. But ONLY during pregame.
Then, when it's after a Baylor incomplete pass on 2nd and 7 from their own 18 on the first drive of the game, a "so. yeah. ha." belts throughout the stadium and the crowd goes nuts.
After a few more weeks of SWP during games, the band can pick it up. The fans need to be trained first though before the band starts playing it.

I too once had hope. Unfortunately, SWP is not on Jock Jams so it’s never going to pass muster. Agree that our athletic department dropping the ball on this obvious slam dunk is one of the most K-State0 things they could possibly do.
