Title: Big Idea
Post by: DQ12 on June 18, 2012, 02:28:35 PM
So fellas, I've been doing a lot of research lately.  This was spawned by the realization that WE, THE FANS, can make a real difference in the way our favorite team (ksu) operates.  We've seen the stuff _Fan has done and the way the University has embraced it.  I know we've visited this subject in the past, but I think now, as LHOFHCBSFS embarks on a major construction project, is the time to really push for it.

First of all, we all love LHOFHCBSFS.  It's a great stadium.  One of the best in the country.  But if we're being honest with ourselves, the stadium has a huge black eye.  That black eye is that idiotic asphalt track that goes around the stadium.  Squawk fans give us hell about that, and I'm humiliated every time they bring it up.  We need to replace that with a unique tradition that will give Kansas State an instantly recognizable brand.

What I'm trying to say is this, guys. It's time to get this Lazy River business off the ground.

I know this concept has been brought up in the past, but I think we were putting the cart before the horse.  Before, we had tried to give the greater MHK community a public transportation system with the river.  There were talks of it being underground and heated.
(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi4.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy110%2FTHE_agnax%2FULRTunnel.jpg&hash=47fbb68a45aad46f5116fcdadcf6768b0e2eae80)
(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi4.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy110%2FTHE_agnax%2FLazyRiver.jpg&hash=cf3a7b3a6ac3a1250b24172290e72403c10c6d5e)

Do not get me wrong; that should still be the endgame, but a project like that takes an insane amount of capital and cannot be achieved overnight. To assume it could is asinine and ridiculous.  Time to be rational about this.  There has got to be phases.  The first phase, I suggest, should be to replace the hideous asphalt track with an above ground, heated, river, which may or may not be lazy.  The river would be wide and deep enough to allow for big $$$ donors to float reasonably sized speed boats, clippers, gondolas and even yachts to float around the field.

(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi4.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy110%2FTHE_agnax%2FBSFSIsland.jpg&hash=bc871c7acaec45d56149d4cd84b2409414e2b07a)

In addition to the increased revenue supplied by said boat enthusiast-donors, we could also cover the lost revenue previously generated by Harley Day by creating a Kawasaki day.  Picture it: Hundreds of jet-skis circling BSFS on ABC minutes prior to the big game against in-state rival Kansas.

(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi4.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy110%2FTHE_agnax%2FBSFSLake2.jpg&hash=1377cfa6714f5e9f032e5324887efc2eae8d1f9b)

The roar and mist created by them would drive students into a frenzy AND generate some SERIOUS cash flow, which, will support a wider river infrastructure down the road, possibly coinciding with UPKS's 2025 plan. I've contacted UPKS already with this plan, and am awaiting his response.  In the meantime, feel free to add any suggestions or concerns here.

I don't think anyone in the country has anything like this, but I could be wrong though.  The time for a lazy river is NOW, people.

We could put sharks, electric eels, alligators, and lions in it, in hopes that the opposing teams players will fall in it.

Could be a huge benefit to KSU Cats Rowing teams.  The footbal stadium could double as one of the premier rowing venues in the Big-12.  It would be kind of like having a track around your football field to conduct track and field events.

I have been reluctant to embrace the lazy river concept in the past (for obvious reasons).  However, this is different.  I could be persuaded to support this.

DELETE THIS Thread. Don't let the NCAA brass know our plans. If they covered "lazy rivers around the stadium" in any of the rules, more power to them, but don't tip our hat before it just "shows up" at opening kickoff 2013.
(I am in full support.)

Apparently the young man failed his cold water suit deployment test multiple times in pre-game yet was still allowed by the Texas staff to play.

Fund raising potential:
--Tube rental for premium seating--none of this "I sat on the 30 yard line" crap.  You'd get to go from endzone to endzone without having to walk or do any work
--Ditto kayak/canoe rental
--Increased beverage sales as floating bar can service the entire stadium--just another additional cereal malt beverage outlet for fans
--Promotional opportunities--the sky is the limit here
--Scantily clad chicks on tubes (maybe in tube tops) will bring in the donor cash

It would be cheaper to flood BSFS like the Roman Coliseum and then just install a turf field on a floating barge. Might give the floodaggies an advantage though.

For opening day, we could have Sea Doo day, where our loyal fans can pay thousands of dollars to drive their Sea Doos around the stadium and splash the fans in the front row. The next week, we could have the soldiers put up a floating bridge across the entire lazy river for Ft. Riley Day. Then the next week, we could have Harley Day, where our fans pay thousands of dollars to ride their Harleys across the pontoon bridge constructed by the soldiers at Ft. Riley Day. Then, we could take down the bridge and resume general lazy river activities for every other game. It will be glorious.

Wow, guys. I read a lot of foolish stuff on this site and get a hearty chuckle out of most things. However, I don't post this with a sly smile, but with some new info to share with you folks.

A few of my buddies today talked to me today discussing the feasibility of such an idea. They said it was cooky, irresponsible, and furthermore a sham.

While I politely disagreed, I answered a call from a source who is directly ITK on matters in the athletic department. No sooner did I great him with my heartiest of wildcat growls, he said, "cas, stop with the growling. the animal has the plans for the "secret phase" for bsfs expansion."

Knowing what the phase was because of my earlier message board stop, I politely asked, "Where is the money coming from?" My source cooly replied, "Do you REALLY think that the White House cut NBAF funding?!?"  :gocho:

What's the status of this? With the federal money spigot flowing, we should be able to get it in the Biden infrastructure bill if it's not in there already.

Even if we had the money, he's completely out of touch with what the fan base wants anyway.

I mean, he didn't even force them to put any turrets on the south EZ project.

Could this be a combo log ride for the olds so they don't have to pack a bathing suit for GameDay?  You don't want me rolling into section 23 in nothing but trunks.

I think we're at KU level with our AD and coach.  In Mean Gene's last interview he was giving info. on how to be a successful P5 AD.  Says to be a AD at smaller schools and then get on a P5 staff.  Do a good job and you'll get the opportunity to be an AD.  Once you'll there do a good job and you'll be there a long time.  Yes our lazy AD has found his retirement job and we're heading downhill all the way.  Just got an e-mail that Manhattan Hy-Vee is selling ten dollar tickets Thursday.  Great, we spent millions of bucks and practically give away tickets to fill the Bill.  THIS IS NOT LOOKING GOOD!

With shithead's matching record with prince, I hope his team wins a few this season.   Maybe we'll get lucky and get back to 90's LHCBS wins.  :crossfingers:
