Title: Will Currie take a meeting? ***NOW THE OFFICIAL NUTPAK THREAD***
Post by: j-von on March 31, 2012, 03:30:15 PM
Just wondering if anybody can make an appointment to meet with Currie?

I'd be willing to go in and record a meeting, telling him face to face how much he sucks and how much we hate him if it's possible.

I'm not the best candidate for this because there are other people here who are much quicker on their feet, but I want to make sure JC has to answer for rough ridin' us over and I feel like if we don't do anything, he won't really have to.

Thoughts?

It's in Scott City, but I don't know the date. I say we all go and force currie to eat 4 pounds of nuts, then drink a beer. Then we take turns punching him in the gut.

You've been called out, fanning.

Depending on what day/time you can get to Wichita and when you have to be back in KC, you can possibly travel with me - assuming there isn't an RV driven by a Canadian friend of Pete's taking you to Scott City with a stop in St. Mary's.

Correct.  Conservatively 2.5 hours to DC, an hour to GC, a half-hour to SC.  Conservatively.

It takes MIR 5 hours in the family truckster.

So guys, what players do you want to see at this thing? I thought JO was a good sport last year, and wouldn't mind seeing him again. I would also  an Angel appearance. On the football side, I would like to see Daniel Sams and Gronk, but I'm betting Snyder brings some senior leadership instead.

NUTPAK predicto: Weber will not try the nuts. The self proclaimed "regular guy" will think he's too good to eat the food of the common folk. Sure, he will mow his own yard, but when it comes to actually chowing down on some good testes, he will back out.

2012 EDITION OF CATBACKER TOUR UNDERWAY

By Mark Janssen

Lon Floyd calls it "The Famous Western Swing" that started Monday in Dodge City, Kan.

It's the first of 31 stops on the 2012 version of the Catbacker Tour that will cover between 7,500 and 8,000 miles before concluding in Junction City on August 25.

"I don't know of another university in the nation that does as many stops like this in a short period of time.  It's a very unique plan of taking our student-athletes with us as we stay out a full week," said Floyd, who said each day will include a morning golf tournament (except in Scott City), followed by an evening dinner and program where both students and coaches will speak.  "I think our young people gain as much from the trip as our supporters.  They get a chance to stand up and express themselves on what K-State means to them.

"A lot of our fans only see our student-athletes with uniforms or helmets on and from a distance," added Floyd, who serves as K-State's assistant athletics director for development events.  "This tour helps bring them to life, and our student-athletes enjoy the opportunity to meet and interact with the fans."

Schools like Texas may have six or seven outings, but as Floyd says, "The school puts them on.  With ours, the credit goes to our fans and our Catbacker organizations, but also to our coaches and student-athletes, who make it a point to give back to the people who give so generously to our program."

On average, K-State will travel three to four times a week through the month of June with Floyd saying the mission statement is "at least two-fold.  The fundraising is an important aspect of it as the tour annually generates $250,000 that is donated back to the Ahearn Fund.  But also important is the association that the attendees get in getting up close and personal with our athletes.

Making the first swing will be B.J. Finney and Tre Walker from the football team, Will Spradling and Jordan Henriquez from the basketball team, plus several volleyball players.

"It does get long, but with each stop you see the enthusiasm for K-State and that pumps you back up again," said Floyd.  "This tour is successful because of the efforts of our people across Kansas.  It's a grinding schedule, but our fans keep us pumped up."

Stops include locations as small as Scott City and Beloit, and as large as Wichita and Kansas City.  Each, says Floyd, carries an equal importance.

"I truly believe Kansas State is about family, and that includes big city families and small town families," said Floyd.  "We have clubs scattered around the state enough that anyone who wants to attend a club can do so by driving a short distance."

What do you mean by "unloaded on his face"

- I bulldozed past GCCPAkat and said "YOU THINK WEBER IS BETTER THAN FRANK!?!! He backtracked.  I told him he's full of crap. He said to support ksu. Told him I'm ksu, he's some dude.

Post by: Trim on May 17, 2012, 12:08:59 PM
I've stopped off at some weirdo old balls restaurant in GC and set up my ipad and keyboard just to get this out now instead of later tonight, appreciate my efforts.

So, GCCPAkat and I poolside pak'd most of the afternoon before picking up one of his bros in Scott City for a drink prior to the nutpak.  When the 3 of us hit the pak, we were in a generally good mood.

Almost instantly, I see Currie in his clown suit.  I'll have pics eventually or somebody can add them from what I tweeted last night.  He must've gone to a cowboy store that day to buy clothes to fit in.  It was akin to him having a speech lined up at a jewish community center and getting a fake beard and hat to look like an orthodox jew.  I probably heard 50 "nice boots, :snicker:" from the crowd over the course of the night.

We grab some drinks and CPA is already fired up.  He wants to talk to Currie right then.  We save some seats, skip the dinner line and CPA approaches Currie at the back of the building where the back garage door was only partially open.  I stand back, not planning to engage at that time but snap some pics of the clownsuit.

Currie finds out CPA is an adult with a job and a family and instantly goes car salesman trying to sell CPA a suite.  CPA largely brushes that off and starts airing his greivances re: overcompliance and some other stuff I didn't catch before getting to Frank.  He asserts that Currie's personal issues led KSU to now having a worse coach than Frank.  Currie says he disagrees.  CPA says that obviously Frank is a better coach than Weber.  Currie tells him he's wrong.

I leap past CPA and ask Currie if it's his position that Weber's a better coach than Frank.  Currie says he's not going to talk to me with me coming at him with that tone.  WTF?  I ask him again, more calmly or whatever and he says that Weber has 200+ wins (he had the exact number).  I say, no crap, he's been coaching for a decade longer.  He says I can ask 10 national basketball people if Weber's good and at least 9 will confirm.  I say no crap, every national basketball person knows not to trash other basketball people, I'd actually get 10 out of 10 and I'm asking you, is Weber an upgrade from Frank.  He says they're both teriffic coaches.  I ask him again.  He says they're both teriffic coaches.  I ask him again.  He says he appreciates my passion and tells CPA that what we need is less negativity.  We tell him we love K-State.

Currie says we should love the BTF and WSC and all that's happening.  He said something about "we" building BTF and I ask who "we" is.  He says everyone here, himself, me, ...  Eventually he tossed in Frank.  I tell him winning basketball built BTF.  He says we all just need to come together for KSU.  We remind him that's not a problem for us and we love KSU.  I tell him I AM KSU and that he's some guy working here at the moment.

CPA asks what Currie's plans for the future are.  Currie babbles about West Side, CPA says no personally.  Currie says he wants to be at KSU.  I ask how the interviews have been going.  He acts puzzled.  I remind him he's interviewed for at least 3 other AD jobs since being here.  He says I'm saying things I don't know and that he's never even inquired about another job.  I tell him he has.  He asks for CPA's name and CPA tells him.  He asks for my name and I tell him Trim.  He asks for my last name and I tell him he already knows and if not, to look me up.  He walks off.  I tell him I want to hash out this interview thing and the cruise and to come outside where we can hear (it was getting loud with nuts being served).  He says he won't go outside with me and takes off.

We get our food, program starts.  Currie was early.  Typical speech.  Simoneau in HOF, Snyder didn't seem eager to stand up with him.  Made a joke about how fans could buy a suite for wives AND their girlfriends (HUR HUR HUR).

JO and Will up next.  JO's a stud.  Will said what his dad told him to say.

Football players I think next.  I was trying to find a pisser and reloading on booze.

Weber up.  The usual.

OBz.  I think I saved the crowd from a BBBS speech by talking to him about it on line for food.  Maybe I got it out of his system.  CPA planned to ask "Michael Smith, great recruiter or the greatest recruiter?" but nobody took questions.  I imagine Currie aborted that feature of the program after the earlier incident.

Auctioned off stuff in the meantime.  CPA and his bro kept bidding agaist each other and entertaining the crowd.

Post-event, I chopped it up with JO, talked about DOB and his flag in 17.  He was very interested in how much the honorary coach for the ku bball game went for and I told him he deserves part of that $8K and some money for KSU filming that dude jumping him.  Told him the Wichita crew will have his back at that event should Wyatt make more chicken jokes.  He remembered.

Tre Walker has a mohawk, told him it looked good.  Asked if he was 230 yet and he says he's still at 228 and 235.  Told him word on goEMAW is that he needs a few more biscuits and explained all that, he says he'll get on the biscuits and get his weight up.

Pak'd for a while after, most of the coaches split to fly back to MHK, players stuck around.  Eventually got out and made it back to GC safely.

I'll probably remember more on my long drive home later today, but that's a decent chunk.  T-Y.

I'll say it...

Currie looks a heck of a lot better in boots than Frank did.
I doubt you get much in the way of arguments for that one! He looked so awkward that it was adorable (we also liked him). JC is trying to fit in (and we don't like him).

Also Frank's boots were a gift, John's are another case of insincerity

How can Currie make his living off of gaining donations from areas like western ks and not already have his western ks costume more perfected?  I mean, that pic looks like the beginning of the trailer for City Slickers 4.

200-250? I'm not good at estimating crowds.

No idea. I know I had both, but couldn't distinguish between ball and fish. It's all just something edible deeply fried.

Also do not know how much I drank.

Maybe some kind of club level seating or something or the bball loges :dunno:  Seems odd to pitch half a million dollar suites at a Scott City event.

Currie did look absolutely ridiculous. I will never understand why people think western Kansans won't like them if they aren't wearing jeans and boots. I didn't show up until almost 6:30, and I didn't see Trim's encounter. I did notice Currie sitting not too far from me, sweating his ass off (it wasn't hot) before he was about to speak. He did NOT seem to be enjoying Scott City. Trim's story explains a lot here.

I thought JO was great, and Weber did a pretty good job. Everyone representing K-State football was great, especially Tre Walker, who said "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." Will Spradling was absolutely horrible. He said a bunch of jokes throughout his speech and JO's, and none of them were funny.

To be fair, though, Currie is not the only dumbass who cowboys up every time he comes to western Kansas. Sam Brownback does the same thing and he sends a memo to other important people at his events encouraging them to also wear jeans and cowboy boots so he doesn't look underdressed.

Pretty much anybody from eastern Kansas does this. It's very rare to get somebody to come out here without dressing up like an urban cowboy.

Catbacker Tour is Underway
Last week we kicked off our annual tour visiting locally hosted and operated Catbacker Club events around the state and we will be coming to a town near you. Almost 2000 loyal K-Staters packed events in Dodge City, Garden City, Scott City, Colby and Hays as well a Topeka golf event on Friday. I enjoyed visiting with many of our Western Kansas fans Tuesday and Wednesday and was glad to catch the Topeka event Friday evening. Be sure to keep up with all 31 events, including recaps and photo galleries, here at www.AhearnFund.com.

There is a man. His name is Jerome Tang. Or as Kansas State assistant coach Jareem Dowling would say, he’s “Jerome Freaking Tang.” And there he is, the 2023 National Coach of the Year, 14 months removed from the start of this ride, and he’s standing in a purple polo, blue jeans and black ostrich boots. He’s holding court Wednesday night at the HRC Feed Yard in Scott City, Kansas.

“I was given the 4-1-1 about Scott City,” he begins. “You don’t break out the fine China for everybody. These boots have only been worn two times.”
