A show-cause penalty is issued by the Committee on Infractions and explains how a coach or another administrator must have their athletically related duties limited, regardless of employer, for a set amount of time. If the person is now employed at a different school than where the violations occurred and they do not agree with the limitations, the school can appear before the committee to 'show cause' why they think the penalty should be reduced or changed.
The recruiting ban will be an overwhelming challenge, but every assistant coach selling Pearl’s next program would be selling the guy who made Dane Bradshaw a star as a 6-3 power forward, who made Chris Lofton into an All-American and who turned the Volunteers into a national power.
if Currie doesn't hire Pearl, i want him fired.this.
One last question:
Is he a charismatic coach that would not only bring a lot of success on the court but also keep K-State in the national headlines and on the front page of ESPN with his adorable antics and all around loveable behavior?

I agree that Pearl is extremely attainable and would crawl to get this job. I agree that the "sanctions" are pure window dressing and wouldn't be all that restrictive. But not with this AD. He just doesn't have it in him to make this hire.

So! You are a Wildcat fan very interested in hiring of our new basketball coach, and you probably want someone good. For KSU, the best possible hire is oscar Pearl. I'm sure you have many questions about why KSU should hire oscar, so I will address them in order.
Question 1: Is he any good?
Answer: Yes!QuoteMilwaukee (Horizon League) (2001–2005)
2001–2002 Milwaukee 16–13 11–5 3rd
2002–2003 Milwaukee 24–8 13–3 2nd NCAA 1st Round

Tennessee: 145–61 65–31
Total: 231–99
Summary: 4 Sweet 16's, one Elite 8, 6 NCAA tourneys in 6 years at Tennessee, 2 NCAA's and one NIT in 4 years at Milwaukee.
NEXT.
Question 2: Won't we get put on probation?
Answer: NO. First of all, everyone should read this article from Mike Decoursey:
http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-basketball/feed/2010-09/vols-penalties/story/hiring-oscar-pearl-would-be-well-worth-the-risk
We all know oscar has a three year "show cause" that can explain very well, including the NCAA:QuoteA show-cause penalty is issued by the Committee on Infractions and explains how a coach or another administrator must have their athletically related duties limited, regardless of employer, for a set amount of time. If the person is now employed at a different school than where the violations occurred and they do not agree with the limitations, the school can appear before the committee to 'show cause' why they think the penalty should be reduced or changed.
He is banned from off-campus recruiting until August 2014, which I assume is the only punishment that will follow him. Challenge anyone that questions this to point to specific sanctions beyond the recruiting restriction. (they won't have a clue).
Question 3: LMAO, Currie won't want someone that is an NCAA risk, right?!?
Answer: Is Currie a pasty frat-parting resume builder? You bet your ass he is! What would look better on a resume than bringing on the most successful coach in Tennessee history? You clowns need to remember that Currie (sort of) hired and worked with this guy at Tennessee. He knows him. Currie has shown the NCAA that he takes a hard line on compliance with the Pullen/Kelly situation and ESPECIALLY with the Jamar situation. Currie has created perfect situation to take a guy like Pearl. "Look, I worked with oscar before and do not bend the rules on compliance. I was willing to run off one of the greatest coaches in KSU history in the name of compliance. oscar will not be a problem with me." And the NCAA is all about money, and personalities like oscar Pearl make them a lot more money than boring losers like Tad Underwood.
Question 4: But he can't recruit! How will we survive if our coach can't recruit???
Answer: oscar can recruit, but not off campus. He can evaluate off-campus, which means he can be seen at AAU events and High School shootarounds. He can recruit on-campus. His assistants will be able to recruit off-campus without restraint, and here is what they can sell:QuoteThe recruiting ban will be an overwhelming challenge, but every assistant coach selling Pearl’s next program would be selling the guy who made Dane Bradshaw a star as a 6-3 power forward, who made Chris Lofton into an All-American and who turned the Volunteers into a national power.
Additionally, off-campus recruiting bans aren't a death sentence. Kelvin Sampson landed Eric Gordon to Indiana while not being able to recruit off campus. We also need to think beyond the next two recruiting classes and toward the future - guys like Brad Underwood and Tad Boyel scare the crap out of me after the current roster starts to leave, but oscar Pearl has developed winners at EVERY level he's coached at. Suck it up for two years and think about the long term.
Question 5: I don't want my coach to be slimy and I don't want to sell my soul for wins. Isn't Pearl slimy?
Answer: HEY GUESS WHAT?!? KANSAS STATE HIRED THE BIGGEST SLEEZEBALL COACH IN THE WORLD WHEN THEY HIRED BOB HUGGINS. You can say it didn't work out, but in the end, it was the most brilliant hire any program has made in the last ten years. The turnaround KSU encountered is unprecedented, and it was all because we took a risk on a coach with "baggage".
ALSO, do you know what oscar did that makes him so "dirty"? He had a barbecue with his team and invited some recruits. Then he lied about it.
Question 6: And?
Answer: That's it.
In summary, use this information to get out there and get us to hire oscar Mother rough ridin' Pearl.

I don't really know much about it yet, I just started a Twitter for the first time last week after the Syracuse game and I have used it exclusively to harass John Currie.
Get this out to all K-Staters!

you didn't steal anyone. KSU didn't make an effort to keep him. It is universally known KSU is the better hoops job and it's not close. You have 8 NCAA tournament appearances-KSU has a 17 sweet 16s and I'm not talking the birthday.

lol at crock fans. every single national media personality has called South Carolina hoops as the place where coaches go to die.
Frank is a good coach but he will kill his career there. He could sell tradition, a passionate fanbase, and facilities at KSU. What will he sell at South Carolina? A couple of bumkins like yourselves wearing :opcat:.

"I found him to be very impressive and very candid. And I just thought, 'Well, K-State's not Tennessee,' "Schulz says. "We're going to provide a tremendous academic advising operation here ... and our compliance people know all the rules and regulations of the NCAA. And John Currie operates from the moral high ground. So we aren't going to have any NCAA violations."
Pearl, 52, is entering his 28th season as a college coach. "Hopefully I'm smarter," he says. "Hopefully, doing this for as long as I've done it, I've picked up some better ways to do things."
All this led to a remarkable clause in Coach Pearls’ new contract with Kansas State. Under the agreement, Pearl would be guaranteed at least $1,500,000 per year for the first three years so long as he refrains from doing anything “which results in material injury to the reputation of the university.”
Currie really seems to believe that this time things will be different. “A lot of our supporters think it has to be one or the other, win or do things right, but I don’t see why it has to be that way. We can do both. We will do both.”
"I am really excited about this. I am excited about this opportunity," Pearl said at the news conference in which his hiring was officially announced. "I do not know that I have ever been around nicer people, people more committed to doing things the right way. The more we talked, the more excited I got."
"With oscar Pearl here, the magic has returned," Schulz said. "We had reservations about everything you read about in the paper and all the things we've heard about for years. But when I met with him, we went through the whole thing and John met with key people with the NCAA about five times, just to make sure everything was OK.
"oscar Pearl is a great coach, and the thing I found out now that he's a really good friend of mine is he's very humorous. He's got one of the best sense of humors I've ever seen."
"I know we made the right choice," Schulz said. "Period. Amen. Good night."

Stop being so negative Luke. I mean, at some point our athletic dept has to do something other than be a complete disaster. Got lucky with Snyder then replaced him with a complete disaster, then rehired him. Hired Huggs  , but then he left for home and we got lucky as shazbot! with Frank and our dumbass AD couldn't keep him. Now here we are at one of those crossing points where everyone will either laugh at us (most likely scenario considering everyone in the AD is a dumbass) or they hire Pearl and everyone but dumbasses will be cheering for us. I am hoping for the latter. :ksu:
sec banned pearl from off campus recruiting for one year. are the ncaa restrictions the same or do they include restrictions for on campus contact?
can't find anything that distinguishes on campus and off campus recruiting restrictions based on the ncaa sanctions
someone please find oscar's email (he's like a vp at a company or something) and send him a compasionate plea (with a link to the website). tia.
Just fired off my first email to oscar. Anyone else?
bsac has already been talking with his people fwiw. will report soon.

I’ve corresponded with his attorney. Unfortunately, oscar is not an option. He would have been a homerun hire if not for some hangups.

Are those hangups due to our AD being run by jackasses, or are they on oscar's end?

it's like when germany lost ww1. at lot of people got bitter and they ended up killing 10 million people. it would have been better if they hadn't distracted themselves with idle hatreds and false hopes and had instead just focused on exacting vengeance on the one person who was responsible for destroying their bball program.
i don't like comparing myself to hitler, but perhaps if hitler had focused on germany's currie instead of genocide, he'd be looked at as a hero today.

Still not willing to accept this until BSAC gives specific reasons why it isn't an option at all.

We need to work the other end as well. where do The Animal and Currie live?
I think I'm going to urge him to post here.
new plan..
promote undy to interim head coach for a year like you would if you fire a coach mid-season. all the while brucey is working the 5 star back channels and preparing to mush the entire ncaa right in their collective fat face.

We could just Make Larry Brown the official head coach. How long could he possibly want to coach?
"I'm not going to be politicking for a job right now," the 71-year-old Brown said. "I'd like to get back involved in the game in some capacity. Whether that's as a coach, assistant, running a team or just as a resource, I don't care."http://espn.go.com/dallas/ncb/story/_/id/7746913/larry-brown-says-contacted-smu-mustangs

Per Wikipedia: In his 38 year coaching career, Larry Brown had 13 different jobs. His first head coaching job was at Davidson where he lasted for most of a summer before resigning.

Why not just hire him anyway? Not being able to recruit at all for 2 years and then having a ton of success is way better than being able to recruit terrible players for 6 years and destroying the program like everyone else is going to do. I just don't get it.

Eff him; he wouldn't know the "K-State way" if it jumped out of the woods and raped him.
The "K-State way"? I know what that is, damn it; in football terms, it's where we accept either Snyder, or everything before him. Don't take us to the rough ridin' edge, and then break down...year after year after year.
In basketball, the "K-State way" is get us back to an Elite 8-style program, or just dump some nut like Asbury back on us. All or nothing. Stop getting us close, pointing out what we could be, and then laughing maniacally as you turn us back around and kick us in the butt.
I don't give a crap what Schulz said; if he wants to prevent a potentially armed uprising, he'd better damn well consider HCBP. If Currie doesn't want to get turned into Swiss cheese by angry wildcats armed with pitchforks, he'd better damn well consider HCBP.
If we get some douche like Boyle, Jank, Henson, et al...burn this [redacted] to the ground. Scatter the ashes. Dance like wild injuns around the flames while the band Wabash's its ass off. :bang:

oscar Pearl landed his second five-star commitment at Auburn on Saturday afternoon, as Class of 2017 power forward Austin Wiley committed to the Tigers.
2003–2004 Milwaukee 20–11 13–3 1st NIT 1st Round
2004–2005 Milwaukee 26–6 14–2 1st NCAA Sweet Sixteen
Milwaukee: 86–38 51–13
Tennessee (Southeastern Conference) (2005–2011)
2005–2006 Tennessee 22–8 12–4 1st (East) NCAA 2nd Round
2006–2007 Tennessee 24–11 10–6 2nd (East) NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2007–2008 Tennessee 31–5 14–2 1st (East) NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2008–2009 Tennessee 21–13 10–6 T–1st (East) NCAA 1st Round
2009–2010 Tennessee 28–9 11–5 3rd (East) NCAA Elite Eight
2010–2011 Tennessee 19–15 8–8 5th (East) NCAA 2nd Round

With your history of success at Milwaukee and the University of Tennessee you would be a perfect fit here. To top it all of your good buddy from your days at rocky top, John Currie, is now the Athletic Director at Kansas State.
I look forward to seeing you in purple body paint soon!

How much fun would kat hoopz be if we had the right oscar in place? How much more vibrant would this board be? Hurts to think about. But wouldn't we have Doug Gottlieb (sp) if goEMAW got it's way?
