#3 carlos mencia. sure his jokes are a bit R-Rated but the guy can flat out bring it. i also love how he supports other comedians by having younger guys open up for him and helps them come up. i've seen mencia twice and both times he delivered, A++ recommendation.

Gerry Katzman

Andrew DICE Clay ... by a mile.
-
Frank Marino should get some love. This fruit dresses up like famous women and fruits around the entire show. Pretty hilarious if you're into fruit humor.
-
Where would you rate Larry the Cable guy? His "everyman" brand of humor really reaches out to me. I wish Hollywood would give him more chances at establishing a big screen presence.
-
Bob Saget over every comedian ever!
-
Sometimes I hear Frank Caliendo on the radio, and it's like they have John Madden RIGHT THERE!

I saw LTC at a famous comedy club in Chicago and he was literally the funniest person i have ever listened to in my entire life. i might need to rethink my list up at the top of this thread.

you should hear him do his charles barkely. he sounds more like sir charles does than sir charles does. A++ recommendation.

Adam Sandler. Now wait, I know what you're thinking, but go back to some of his classic stuff like Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. You will laugh so damn hard you guys.
-
billy madison, the penguin. LMAO.

Louis C.K.
not funny. unoriginal. i watch his "comedy" and need to take a prozac. he's a depressed and bitter old man.
-
gallagher is good. maybe not the best but for sure top five. probably best "live" show though. bring a rain jacket that's for sure.
as for #1... probably eddie murphy. i mean gi joe up my ass and then those nutty professor movies. i mean come on. the guy is just so versatile.
-
Leno should get some love. He writes all his own stuff
-
Leno should get some love. He writes all his own stuff
plus the guy puts himself out there every night. i mean every night with new material. say what you want about the guy but that takes some major comic chops.
-

i love leno because he's a huge car guy.

Bob Saget over every comedian ever!
Bob Saget is hands down the worst comedian I have ever seen. I tried to watch him because some dumbass said he was good, but man was he awful.

Was not serious, but thanx for the info. If I had to pick a "modern comedian" it would be Rodney Carington.
-
Carrot Top. The props enhance his act, but I think he's funny enough to go without them!! No, he is not ripping off Gallagher. I mean, when have you ever seen Carrot Top smash watermelons? I've been to several of CT's shows and he hasn't smashed a watermelon once.

This thread blows.
No Rodney Dangerfield? No Bill Cosby? :flush:
-
Wow. No Jeff Dunham in the Top 4? What a joke of a thread. Joke. But not the funny kind, like Jeff Dunham or Dane Cook tell. The kind that's tragic. Sad, really. :flush:

Best is pretty subjective, but I'd have to say Sandler and Seinfeld are the most successful?

I think a few of the posters in this thread are real contenders. You guys are rough ridin' hilarious, I tell you.
-
pfft... Whitney Cummings, she's hot, talks about dirty stuff and her name is sort of a double entendre. What more could you ask for?

Dat Phan came to FHSU while I was going to school there. He did an hour show and it was the most awkward experience of my life. He stood up there for an hour trying to be funny with 700 people watching and not a single person laughing.

George Carlin and Bill Hicks are two of the best ever. Not sure if they're modern era though. But if the modern era has Dane Cook at the top, then thats indicative of how far comedy has fallen. He's funny, but his jokes are too simple.
edit: and Mencia? Yeah, i guess comedy does suck today. He's THE go to guy for intellectual property theft in the industry.

Eddie Murphy
Louis CK
Chris Rock
Jim Jeffries (current fav)
Damon Wayans
Dave Chappelle

Paula Poundstone is pretty funny on Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me.

No one's mentioned Demetri Martin? I love that dude. Probably my favorite, but hard to argue that he's the best.
-
I agree with Carrot Top if he slims back down like he says he is planning to do.
Just saw the vid for Toby Kieth's "Solo Cup" song. CT has a short cameo at the end and he does look slimmer.

All 3 members of The State. Your average comedy fan today would instantly recognize 9 of the 11 members for their post-The State work.

I have no idea if anyone is serious in this thread but I am and I like Maria Bamford and Patton Oswalt a lot.

quick question...the blonde girl from icarly is very, very funny. does she count as a comedian?

yes, so does icarly's older brother. And gibby. Freddie is not funny. :(

Maria Bamford
I passed out during the last 30 minutes of SNL on saturday night and woke up at 12:40 with the TV still on. When I woke up some stand-up variety show was showing Maria Bamford. I was pleasantly surprised.

Seen Wanderlust yet? Lots of The State alums in it (of course, Wain film). Marino, Kenney, and lots of Lo Truglio in addition to the Stellites. No Lennon or Garant, though. They're probably off writing another screenplay for $$$$.

Wanderlust is very funny. Not Wet Hot American Summer funny, but then what is? Wanderlust is as funny as a movie can be that features so many Wet Hot people while still featuring Jennifer Anniston, who is decidedly unfunny but hot. See it.

That Charlie Murphy fella is fantastic. I mean at first I was all like "this guy is just trying to make a quick buck off his brothers name and an amusing situation involving his couch.". However after giving him a chance I now believe that comic genius must be genetic.

Aziz Ansari is appropriately rated. I mean he sold out a 3500 seat theater in SF this week at $50/ticket. I would guess he's a top 10 draw when it comes to comedians.
-
Def not the best, but I enjoyed Jay Mohr at the Midland last weekend.

#3 carlos mencia. sure his jokes are a bit R-Rated but the guy can flat out bring it. i also love how he supports other comedians by having younger guys open up for him and helps them come up. i've seen mencia twice and both times he delivered, A++ recommendation.
#4) richard prior. yes a lot of his schtick deals with race, which should be outlawed, but i think he deserves honorable mention just because he was around when these other guys weren't around and although most of his routine/jokes were not funny or original, at least he was a black comedian who probably laid the foundation for other blacks to be funny, like Sinbad.

He was talking about how shitty it must be to be married/have kids. Asked someone in the audience about their engagement story. They said they got engaged in Manhattan, KS. I think it was Riley guy. Then the guy told the story of a fairly crappy engagement and Aziz mocked it a bit, but did not mock MHK in a situation where he was looking for things to mock.

Love Bill Hicks, he might not be the guy to have you crying in laughter for 2 straight hours but his cultural impact can't be understated. He makes his audience actually think about society, politics, religions, philosophy, etc.... Any Bill Hicks fan should watch the documentary on netflix, American: The Bill Hicks Story

MHK got a shoutout at the Aziz Ansari show in Denver last night. Feels good to be elite....
deats pls. tia
He was talking about how shitty it must be to be married/have kids. Asked someone in the audience about their engagement story. They said they got engaged in Manhattan, KS. I think it was Riley guy. Then the guy told the story of a fairly crappy engagement and Aziz mocked it a bit, but did not mock MHK in a situation where he was looking for things to mock.
probably because he knew he wanted to come here sometime and didn't want to catch crap for it.
Aziz Ansari — Modern Romance" at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in Bramlage Coliseum.

Here's your sign.
My daughter bought me his cd. I listened to it a couple of times in my truck. The best parts were when he was making fun of stupid folks. He said they all needed to wear a sign that says they're stupid.

Chappelle still killin' 'em.

The only act I've seen him do was basically "Danny Tanner said $!#*!"
-
 Yeah, I got to meet him back in my radio days and he makes fun of his Full House character pretty much thee entire time. I have zero plans this weekend, so I thought it would be something new to do. I don't expect him to be great, but hopefully entertaining.

Nathaniel Rateliff tonight at Grinders - will probably be more expensive than seeing Danny Tanner swear though

Nate Bergatzi (sp?) is probably the only comedian I’ve seen on streaming in recent history that I’ve truly enjoyed (other than Chapelle).

You would prob like Jim Jeffries. He is my favorite. I'm a big fan of Anthony Jeselnek as well. Both have great Netflix specials. Jeselnek is pretty dark so it may not be your thing.

I don't remember the last traditional standup special I enjoyed. A couple non-conventional specials I've liked:
Carmen Christopher doing standup on the street during the pandemic:

My dad wants me to come to Salina for it, but Lewis is in Tulsa the following Saturday so I’m trying to get him to come here.

Did anyone see Brent Terhune in Wichita last weekend?

I like Jeselnik, but he’s so different & it’s slow sometimes. After awhile I get the point. However, his what’s the worst gift you can give someone after an abortion joke was the hardest I’ve laughed at a stand up joke in a long time. I also listened to him on Bomani Jones podcast & it was really good.

I totally get that. Some times you have to wait it out and it def isn't for everyone. His Boston marathon bit is really good too. I think what I like most about him is that he says the most awful crap you can imagine on stage and I've listened to interviews and podcasts with him or with people talking about him and he is supposedly a really nice down to earth guy. He openly admits its all a schtick which is pretty cool.

I really like Bergatzi. Tennessee Kid was hilarious.
-
Almost forgot I also like Tom Segura although it can be hit or miss.

I was thinking about it, but I don't like seeing comedians in big arenas. I missed him last time at the Midland and really want to see him, but i'm prob passing.
