Title: In and out burger
Post by: OK_Cat on December 13, 2011, 01:43:22 PM
On my way to Cali for the week. There's an in and out burger 30 minutes from where I'm staying. I've heard it's good, but is it worth an hour roundtrip? Or is it just good because we don't have them in ks/ok?

It's good (for fast food), but not worth the trip.

Of course, if you're thirty minutes from an In-N-Out in California, your closer options may make it worth the trip.

It's great fast food, take that as you want. If you're driving down the street and you have a bunch of chain restaurants and McDonalds it's definitely worth picking over the others. But an hour round trip, ehhhhhh

I would actually get one on the way to the airport. I'm guessing there's one between you and the airport or close to that route. Just a guess.

Unless there's one in LAX I guess I'll pass. I'm going to some crappy AFB. Vandenburg or something like that.

there is one right by lax if you're in a rental.  santa maria thinks their bbq (tritip sandwich) is something particularly good, i haven't tried it, but it looks ordinary.  you can get really good mexican in santa maria, i'm sure.

don't listen to these philistines pushing in&out.  it not only isn't special, it's not very good.  shitty fries, ordinary burgers.  carl's jr is better.

Yes, it's catchy, and it will obviously get people in the door, but does it describe the restaurant accurately? Absolutely.

If they wouldn't let sonic leave the midwest and made the chili cheese tots a secret menu item t-shirt buyers from all over the west coast would flock to it.

Just landed at LAX. I fly to Santa Barbara in a few minutes so leaving LAX isn't an option.

Also, this thread is now about how I've seen roughly 12 pairs of fake tits in the 10 minutes I've been on the ground.  California, amirite?

Tried What-A-Burger for the first time on the way back from Austin last month and was quite disappointed.  Could have had something to do with a bad hangover, but usually a solid fast food grease bomb is good in that situation. Definitely prefer Wendy's.

There is nothing ever special about these types of places. Unless you have some sort of fast food bucket list. If you live in a town that has one you don't they're that great until you talk to someone from a town that doesn't have one.

BTW, have you guys had Vista, holy crap completely changes the fast food game.

Only had whatabuger when I was hammered.  I vaguely remember it being pretty tasty.  Carls Jr/Hardees are great, if you're a super fatass and just have to order a 6 lb burger.  Braums/Sonic are both very good if you go to the right locations but also pretty bad at the wrong locations.  Just discovered the chili cheese tots @ Sonic like a month ago.  :embarrassed:  Best burger I've had in a while is at Walts in Wichita.  :lick:

The week I lived in Dallas last year I participated in a personal Whataburger/In -n- Out Burger-Off as I had never had either.   I enjoyed the Whataburger a little bit more than I-n-N.  I thought the fries were pretty good at I-n-N.  Afterwards I told my Dallas co-workers that Whataburger tasted like Sonic and they all wanted to fight me.

it is kinda sad they have to do that, though appears the well established #ack is pointless if they're just crispy cardboard instead of soggy cardboard anyways :frown:

BOGEYSMANIA

a little overdone, but that's better than underdone tots - 5/7
burger was standard diner size, requiring you to obvi order a double chee. it was cooked to perfection, with ketch, must, 'ions and picks. bun was a nice surprise in the softness department. overall good texture everywhere on this burg. pretty much exactly what you want from a diner burg - 6/7
atmosphere - like too gross to be nice but not gross enough to be charmingly gross (could also describe salina v well) - 2/7

I feel it needs to be made clear that if you order at Whatabuger you are wasting your life if you don't get something off their "All Time Favorites" menu. Patty melt and chophouse cheddar (not always available) are my two favs.

There's one of those here.  Never been.  It's in a spot that would really only make sense to go to if you lived or worked within a few blocks from it.

Yes. Thousand Island Dressing. My buddy in LA is shocked that I wouldn't love that glob of goo. Tries to get me to order them every time.  :Yuck:
