I enjoy the sport but its impossible for me to follow since there is no team I feel any attachment to and thus have a reason to root for.

Any of you fools like hockey enough to watch the Frozen Four?  Starts tonight with two upstarts and two "blue bloods"...

Has been really good hockey the past couple of years since I started watching the collegiate semi-finals and finals.

A good friend of mine is a UND grad so I'm sort of rooting for them to win it all, especially after the way they got knocked out last year.

That McIntyre kid in goal is one of the greatest collegiate goalies ever.  Should be an excellent semi-final tonight in what should likely really be the championship game.

Yes.  UND is also college hockey's version of the Washington Redskins as far as racisty names so I'd be pretty careful when you root for them.

Also, they are the dirtiest team left in the tournament.

I'm not concerned with the level of "racisty" of a given teams mascot/nickname and I actually like physical hockey that borders on "dirty"... Thus, it looks like I've made a good choice.

Go Fighting Sioux!!

I think he's already been drafted by them.  The kids are drafted at age 18, then they become free agents again after 4 yrs if they haven't joined their NHL team by then, so there's a lot of pressure for them to leave after their junior year of college.

Eichel has definitely not been drafted. Expected #2 overall this year behind McDavid.

He hasn't. I just don't think we will win the lottery. Real being real, I'm sorta scared of getting Eichel. Have you seen the list of Hobey Baker Award winners :Yuck: one hall of famer (Neal Brotten, he wouldn't have made it if he wasn't on the Miracle on Ice team) and one potential future hall of famer (Paul Kariya). The 5th most accomplished winner is Jordan freaking Leopold, you literally can't even make a top 10 list of most accomplished NHL careers of Hobey Baker winners.
Title: Re: hockey thread
Post by: MakeItRain on April 10, 2015, 12:43:20 PM
Actually looking at Kariya's stats he isn't getting in the Hall of Fame either. Eichel will be the 35th Hobey Baker winner and none of the previous 34 were good enough to get into the Hall of Fame solely on the merits of their professional careers :flush:
Title: Re: hockey thread
Post by: joda on April 10, 2015, 12:47:01 PM
Yea, the Hobey Baker is like the Heisman in that too. Though I think that can partly be blamed on most of the historically best players don't play college hockey. I still really like what I've seen of Eichel and expect him to be a great player, but just like most prospects he's no sure thing.
Title: Re: hockey thread
Post by: MakeItRain on April 10, 2015, 12:55:51 PM
He has size which is good, when most college hockey forwards are runts, he also had good numbers when he played juniors so that's promising as well, but as I've made obvious I'm leery of college hockey players being NHL difference makers.

well, sister school came up short this afternoon.  Took/got hit with some very bad penalties when they had momentum.  The U appears to be the team to beat for the natty.  Terriercats are very young though and should be back in the 8 at least next season.

College hockey is very fun this time of year, would love is kazz U could ever field a DI team (we never will).

Funny story, watched the 2nd and 3rd at the Blueline today.  I was only TC fan there.  there was a table of 6 gopher fans.  they only ordered water and 1 beer.  treated the place as their own living room.  poor waitress was not enjoying the constant water cup refill demands.
