It may be a long season but I wouldn't let something Jason King writes influence the likelihood of that possibility.
-
Jason King? more like Jason Fuckstick.
-
Gun to my head and I say no tournament this year.
-
i knew we'd struggle this year...but i never thought about missing the tourney. would be sad.
-
Long season = we're playing in April.
:ksu:

really?

Jason King is a certified dumb stick.

Calling my shot - I think the team exceeds preseason expectations this year.

11-2 non-con?

BOLD PREDICTION
sometime in February we will have an idiot poster like kougs bewildered about why we care since he knows k-state isn't going to the tournament
-
Calling my shot - I think the team exceeds preseason expectations this year.
Kind of what I'm hoping for. I think we'll at least be a bubble team come March unless crap really hits the fan. And yeah King is a confirmed squawk and a certified fuckface in general
-
Calling my shot - I think the team exceeds preseason expectations this year.
11-2 non-con?
no, they will look really bad in the preseason and early conference season - then reel off a string of improbable wins after they are declared dead in the water.
-
lol
-
I kind of prefer an NIT home game every few years.
-
i knew we'd struggle this year...but i never thought about missing the tourney. would be sad.
I think the tourney is kind of a long shot this year. We will be on the bubble, though.

So, we're essentially on the Lon Kruger path to irrelevance then?

i think we're going to be decent this year and back to pretty good the following. this is pretty normal for college basketball, and no, i'm not defending frank because i'm still not on his bandwagon.
-
Can't wait for Frank talking about how young we are.
-
If we can get players like Gipson and Nino playing well, I think we should be good enough
:bracketmouse:
Also Jason King is stupid if he thinks Xavier v Auburn would be a better game than K-State v Clemson
-
Can't wait for Frank talking about how young we are.
the players that are putting in the most effort will be the ones seeing the floor
-
I hear Meyer puts in a lot of effort :dubious: :dubious: :dubious:

i don't see nino as ever being anything more than a limited role player. i'm also not concerned at all with our play on the block. we need to see improvement on the perimeter.

Looking around the conference, nobody seems to be getting better, except maybe dogshit Iowa State with their xfers. Even though OSU, BU, aTm, and UT continue to cruit lights out, they always seem to be very beatable. Which is why I hold out hope for next season.

Isn't Jason King that corpse with the dark glasses that host(ed) a show on CNN??? Or is he the fat guy that wrote for SI forever???

I like that he added "take care"
actually, the beasley's do have a hummer. that wasn't made up. just because Michael drives a Tahoe doesn't mean his mother doesn't drive a hummer or that his brother doesn't drive one. i promise you: it's true.
as far as jason's seats at bramlage being downgraded ... I don't think he'd mind. after this season there won't be much reason to go back there anyway.

Mike's mom and I were just discussing our cars earlier today. We have the same model. Not a Hummer. Hers doesn't have a pak head spare tire cover. Yet.

Kinda weird that Yahoo! Sports hired Jason King. They're known for their investigative reports and scandal stories, like the Miami thing. Here's a guy that was covering KU for the Star, but somehow missed all the sordid things going on in Lawrence while spreading rumors and faulty predictions about K-State basketball.
I mean, would you hire a plumber who doesn't recognize a toilet sitting right in front of him?
-

He's actually a Baylor fan who went to school at Baylor. Shocking, I know.

BIG 12
NCAA tournament teams: Kansas, Baylor, Texas A&M, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Texas
On the bubble: Oklahoma State, Iowa State
Outlook: Kansas has won seven straight Big 12 championships, but the Jayhawks will be hard-pressed to keep the streak alive following the early departures of Marcus and Markieff Morris and Josh Selby to the NBA and the graduation of savvy veterans Brady Morningstar and Tyrel Reed. Kansas’ backcourt should be salty with Tyshawn Taylor and Elijah Johnson, but there doesn’t appear to be much help for All-American candidate Thomas Robinson down low. One thing working in Kansas’ favor is that there won’t be many elite-level teams in the Big 12 this season, so a conference championship is still a very real possibility. The main challenger to Kansas’ throne will be Baylor. Other than Kentucky and North Carolina, there won’t be a team in the country as talented and deep as the Bears, who tout two forwards (Perry Jones and Quincy Miller) who could be among the first 10 players selected in next summer’s NBA draft. Mix in the return of Quincy Acy and Anthony Jones and the addition of standout guards Brady Heslip, Pierre Jackson and Deuce Bello, and it’s easy to see why Baylor is the popular choice to win the Big 12 title. New Texas A&M coach Billy Kennedy inherited a talented team that will be led by NBA prospect Khris Middleton. And first-year Missouri coach Frank Haith walked into an excellent situation in Columbia, where Marcus Denmon and Laurence Bowers highlight an impressive list of returnees. Texas probably lost as much as any team in the conference but, as always, Rick Barnes signed a standout recruiting class led by point guard Myck Kabongo.

Well if not paying child support, molesting women on elevators, killing your child, shooting old ladies with BB guns, fighting the football team, smashing your girlfriend's head on a sink, getting DUIs while being a front for your dad to pay players, and not graduating high school are the told stories, I cannot wait to find out the UNTOLD stories.
-
But really Jason King is very objective when it comes to ku . . . honest.
I mean, one time, he actually wrote a story somewhat critical of ku, and let me tell you, the way he dove into their last probation was worthy of a Pulitzer, real Woodward and Berstein stuff there.
He may have deviated from Lew Perkins dictation of the story once, if not twice.

The following is an excerpt from "Beyond the Phog - Untold Stories from Kansas Basketball's Most Dominant Decade." Compiled by Jason King of Yahoo! Sports and Lawrence Journal-World sportswriter Jesse Newell, the 400-page book includes interviews with 40 players and coaches from the most successful era in Jayhawks history. "Beyond the Phog" will be available in stores Sept. 30. KUSports.com will run excerpts from the book throughout the next few weeks.
In Mario Chalmers' words ...
A LITTLE PAYBACK
People like to talk about the North Carolina and Memphis games, but one of the biggest wins for us during the NCAA Tournament was against Villanova.
That game was personal, because Jay Wright – the Villanova coach – had also been the head coach of the USA Basketball team that represented the country in the Pan Am games the previous summer. Jay Wright cut both Sherron and me from that team and kept his own player from Villanova, Scottie Reynolds, who had clearly been the worst player at the entire camp. He led the whole camp in turnovers. Sherron didn’t play all that well, either, because his knee hadn’t recovered from the previous season. But for me, I felt like I did everything right. I led them in steals, I had a lot of assists and I barely had any turnovers. But I wasn’t shooting the ball very much. They used one of those international balls, so they were different. I didn’t like the ball. I shot maybe six times.
When they cut me, they told me it was because I didn’t score and that they wanted a scoring point guard. I was like, “Why do y’all need all these scorers? What do you need a scoring point guard for when you’ve got all these other scorers?” They had Alonzo Gee from Alabama and guys that could already score. I was just trying to get other players involved. When they cut me, I was hurt. I was like, “Oh, you wanted me to score and you didn’t tell me that?” They had told Coach Self they just wanted a guy to distribute the ball, but Jay Wright cut me and kept his own player.
So when it came to the Villanova game, Coach Self called Sherron and me into his office and said, “How do you feel about this Villanova game?” I said, “Coach, this is personal to me. I don’t like Jay Wright.” He was like, “I understand that, but keep it out of the media.” So when the media asked if it was a personal game, we’d say, “No, it’s not personal. It’s just another game.” But during the game we were talking all kinds of s--t to Jay Wright. We’d run by him and tell him, “Sit your ass down! We got this!” Another time we said to him, “This is what you get for cutting us. We’re about to dog you!” Anytime we were throwing the ball in from the sideline, when he was standing up trying to call a play, we’d tell him to shut his mouth and sit down. There was one play where I threw a lob to Shady on an inbounds pass and he dunked over Scottie Reynolds. Right before I threw it I looked at Jay Wright and said, “Watch this!” That game was definitely personal for Sherron and me.
-

That story is obviously a fabrication. KU players never say mean things. And in fact, "That does bother me a lot that anybody would say anything like that, and more importantly, that anybody would report (players) saying anything like that."
"I don't think our team has the kind of character to do stuff like that"
Yeah. Right.
It's nice of Chalmers to confirm that Self tells his players to lie to the media.
"There were comments coming off the KU bench that my staff was witness to ... from wishing him bodily harm to a comment about, 'Hey, where's your green card?'" Fitzgerald said during "The Overdrive" online show that airs after the TV show. "Setting aside the fact that's racist, look KU players, he's from the United States. Puerto Rico is part of the United States. You don't need a green card."
Kansas coach Bill Self responded Monday morning.
"I did hear about that, and that flat-out (ticks) me off, because that did not occur," Self said. "We have coaches who sit between the players. I will ask my players to make sure, but I'm sure that did not occur.
"That does bother me a lot that anybody would say anything like that, and more importantly, that anybody would report (players) saying anything like that."
The four Kansas players who spoke the media Monday — Sherron Collins, Cole Aldrich, Brady Morningstar and Tyrel Reed — said they didn't hear anything of the sort.
"I don't think our team has the kind of character to do stuff like that," said Reed, who played 19 minutes, many of them guarding Clemente. "Nobody said they were yelling or anything like that, so I don't take anything out of that."
"I don't know anything about that," Morningstar said.

There is a reason they are known as the most annoying bunch of punks in the country.

There is a reason they are known as the most annoying bunch of punks in the country.
I remember the national perception in whatever year it was that they won the national championship being that KU had a good clean program who did things the right way going up against Memphis' team of thugs. My, how things change.

wow, seff. unreal (not even joking). JR Giddens excerpt....
Any thoughts I had about leaving (school early) for the NBA ended when I got stabbed. After that I knew I wasn’t going anywhere. If anything, I was trying to figure out if I was ever going to play basketball again.
I think that’s why they made me leave Kansas. The doctor said I would walk with a limp for the rest of my life. He said I was going to come back 50% and I wasn't going to be able to play basketball anymore.
I’m not saying Kansas threw me out like a battery. But they get McDonald’s All-Americans every day. They weren’t going to let me stay around campus and be Moulaye Niang.
Micah Downs was coming in. Bill Self used to always tell me, “Micah is coming in and he's better than you.” He would just say little stuff like that and I was like, “Dang, man, you’re not even for me, are you?” I wanted to stay at Kansas but I felt like they just pushed me out the door, especially after getting stabbed. I was like, “I'm sitting here worrying if I'm ever play basketball again and you guys are over here talking to me in an inappropriate manner? I'm 19 years old. You guys are supposed to my college coaches. Instead, at the first sign of trouble, you guys are turning your back on me?” I felt like it was everyone from the coaching staff to the people up there in the offices. As a 19-year-old who was immature and didn’t understand life, I took that really hard. I left the office in tears when I knew I was leaving.
I remember that day really well. I walked out of there on crutches, crying. I’d been interrogated for about seven hours for three days straight. Then those guys did that to me? A few weeks before that, I had to move out of my dorm at the Towers. I and was staying with Josi Lima, my girlfriend at the time who played volleyball. Bill Self was telling my teammates not to have any contact with me. Darnell Jackson and Jeremy Case were two of my best friends, and they weren’t even allowed to talk to me. Aaron Miles was done playing so he came over. He was the only person who came and saw me. I was like, “Dang, I’m 30 feet from where I used to stay and you guys can’t even come over here and see me?” I’m stabbed and laid up and don’t even know if I’m going to play basketball again. That was very kind of Kansas basketball and Bill Self, to tell people to stay away from me like I was a team cancer.

there's an old saying that goes "behind every great fortune is a great lie".
whoever came up with that saying was talking about ku basketball.
what a sad environment in lawrence, ks.

from kusports comments...
wow, just wow.
How does it paint KU in a bad way. Giddens put himself in a bad position with his on-court play and in a situation that led to him being stabbed and KU cut ties with someone who at the could've dragged the program down with him. KU did what they needed to do and this except paints Giddens as a bitter person who didn't take responsibility for himself for getting into a bad situation. The Micah Downs quote I'm guessing was supposed to be motivation for Giddens to work his butt off to prove Self wrong, but Giddens took it literally that Downs was going to come in and be handed Giddens spot instead of a challenge to make himself better that a statement like that is intended to do.
Not to mention that HCBS may have been saying it in a joking manner. We don't know the tone Self used, even though it's portrayed here to have been a cut. We all saw the love at the Legend's game. I don't think we need to worry that Bill is treating the boys badly. This may help sell books, but JR, we all know the score.
Self is bitingly sarcastic. He is not to be taken literally when he says things like that.
J.R. was one of those people who had a sense of entitlement, and it ruined his Kansas career as well as KU's 2005 season. He single-handedly shot us out of the 2005 tournament. To this day, of the big NCAA upsets we've suffered in the Bill Self era, I still count that loss to Bucknell as the most humiliating of all.

Just like how Frank treated Curt and others only the exact opposite

How do you expect people to live in Lawrence and not get stabbed?
-
Holy crap! What a monster.
He doesn't even aim for the recycling bin, he just wads them up and throws them straight at the trash can.
Horrible human being. The entire culture....
I mean....eff!
Bet Massa had a fat steak and a cuban(green card joke here) after the crutches/tears thing.
-
Understanding Massa a little better sure explains Sherron's issue: poor chunky bastard was stress eating every time he was able to get away from the compound.
Also, the resident FB and Twitter folks need to link this to any recruit that we are listed as both in the running for.
-
Was Giddens the only one player involved in that fight?

Someone send this to Perry Ellis.

KU Bball fans are masochists, they will ALL read every sentence of this garbage, then convince one another it can't be true, then go change their underpants.

Blaming the victim, just sick. Seff could have stabbed Giddens himself and these squawks would have claimed he deserved it and Seff was just dishing out some tough love.

Cal also looks to get his players drafted and make millions of dollars. He allows players to play their game and doesn't conform them to a system or hide them on the bench so they don't get good draft grades, and are thus forced to return to school. He wants every player he coaches to have a successful life, and is the true definition of a player's coach. The same cannot be said for many coaches around the nation, who only care about how many wins and championships they have. Take Kansas coach Bill Self for example.

One odd discovery of being on the east coast is getting to see first hand how much ACC fans look down on/are unaware of KU. And I'm pretty sure they think Missouri is in Canada (<--obviously this is just hyperbole b/c they also have excellent educations).

Knowledgeable fans do boo every call, though. You can easily gauge a fanbase's BBIQ by simply adding up the minutes spent booing during a basketball game.
-
King was obviously groping for the right words what with this strange combination of delirious/insecure. I think he was looking for angry.

Maybe K-State fans don't appreciate his constant shots. I lost it the time he linked Frank Martin to the UNLV job, as if 1) Martin was interested and 2) it was a better job than K-State's. So glad he's off the Yahoo!/Rivals network.
